iOS11 wifi UI is completely fucking busted.
They changed it so that you cannot turn off wifi without going into airplane mode in the regular UI.
Here is an example of why this matters. I work in a big brick building. I have access to a building-wide wifi, I have a router in my office, and some places are dead zones. In iOS 10, I have both the building-wide wifi and the router in my office in my known routers, my phone takes a stab at them, and sometimes when I'm near the dead zone, I turn off the wifi. In iOS 11, I press turn off wifi, and then like 2 minutes later iOS helpfully tries to reconnect me to the poor signal wifi that doesn't quite reach the dead zone, dropping all my active connections while it tries to connect, and forcing me to turn off the wifi again.
Here's another example. My bus commute home is about 45 minutes. Near where I work, I have wifi in some places. I get on the bus, which promptly drives through a town with a bunch of public wifi hotspots I use, including coffee shops. Then it drives into the town I live in, where my cable company has a wifi network I can use for free. Then I get home. Unfortunately, although my phone sees the coffee shop and cable wifis as the bus is driving, it can't get a stable connection on any of them, or if it can, it'll lose connection in seconds when the bus starts again. On iOS 10, I get on the bus and turn off my wifi for the 45 minutes. On iOS 11, I disconnect from the wifi and have to re-disconnect about 5 times during my commute, normally only noticing it even tried to connect because webpages don't load.
Okay, I get it, Tim Cook's grandmother forgets to turn her wifi back on and gets mad at him because she gets a data overage bill or some stupid shit. Great. Figure out a solution to that problem. This is not a sane default. Let me override this stupid behaviour, figure out a way for the default to not try to route everything through jank-ass ghost connections, make the temporary disconnect last more than a nanosecond, whatever it takes to not fucking suck major ass all the time.
This is honestly the single biggest usability issue I have ever experienced with an iOS device going back to the iPhone 3G I got at launch. I have no idea how this was shipped.
Oh and by the way the new control center is ugly as hell, less usable, and actually not any more concise. So that's an impressive achievement.
