We're getting a lot of small website updates and tweets from Palutena now, so I'm making this thread so we can discuss these updates. I don't think I'll update the OP with every tweet, because it will quickly turn into a mess of links that will be too hard to navigate to really be useful.

Speaking of GameStop has anyone heard how preorders have been? Even if it's your local gamestop? Getting the game from Amazon.com myself. It's listed at #87 in the top 100 best sellers. No way of telling how it ranks among other 3DS games because there is no best sellers list for 3DS games on Amazon. Even when told about it they either refuse to fix it deny there is even a problem..

This game is so packed, I'm wondering how they will balance stuff. With so many weapons and abilitites there will probably be major balance issues in single and multiplayer.

Still, can't wait to play this. The character is not that appealing IMO, but the game is definitly looking hot.

There is one, it's just a pain to get to.

It ranks third behind MK7 and 3D Land.

This game is making me hate that I'm lefty, I don't want to spend money in a CPP :( not separate. They should bundle it in NA at some point.

I feel the same way. I love everything I've seen about this game, but it just isn't designed in a lefty-friendly way. You can't use the stand with the CPP (...obviously...), and I don't even have a CPP in the first place. Playing as a righty just won't work well, either. Meh.

To be fair, it is the best version of Kid Icarus (no slowdown and between-level saves like the Famicom version), and it's a nice freebie, especially compared to some of the NES Ambassador games, but at the end of the day it's still the weird, clunky, convoluted, obtuse game we all tried to forget about twenty years ago.

I'm not much of an NES gamer anyway, so if I wanted to play a game of that nature, Metroid would be a much better option.

I think they're different enough to merit playing both. Kid Icarus is not a lesser metroid, it's its own thing. They're both platformer-shooters to a degree, but they do things differently, and I think the OG Kid Icarus is definitely worth playing. It's challenging, it mixes things up in its stages, and it's a lot of fun. (says me)

Totally different games. It comes from the same set of designers so it is made in the same clothe but it wraps around your body in a different way.

If I had to pick one. It be Kid Icarus. It is a more straightforward action game. Both are similar in quality though.

I didn't say they were the same. I said that they were functionally identical to me because I don't play NES games very often, so Kid Icarus and Metroid would scratch the same itch.

Besides, I already have three copies of Metroid.

Huh. I just saw the trailer for the 3D Classics version of Kid Icarus. And... they're adding backgrounds? Weird. I mean the backgrounds look great, I just find it odd that they're changing stuff about the original game. If they were gonna do that, why not just go all the way and do a full remake? Rebalance the first few levels to not be the hardest in the game, explain and present the multiple experience systems better, let enemies drop health pickups, make it so you can duck on drop-through floors without dropping through them, maybe even include an easy mode that lets the screen scroll back down instead of turning everything below you into a death pit.

I like Kid Icarus, but it could really use a remake to just iron out the quirks that stem from it being an early NES game.

Heavy colour contrast (particularly coloured sprites on a flat-black background) causes heavy ghosting in 3D mode, so they had little choice but to add new backgrounds in order to keep the 3D effect from looking like arse.

More than that, the 3D effect straight up wouldn't work on the completely solid colored backgrounds of the original. I'd been trying to figure out how they'd get around that.

I understand why they did it. I just feel like, if they were gonna make such a huge change anyway, that time and effort might have been better put into a full on remake. Do a Bionic Commando Rearmed to Uprising's BC '08. Er... except for the part where BC '08 flopped.
