I just pointed to the definition of the word myself.
Although the whole "yeah well we actually put viking themes into our game! How Norse is THEIR game!?" angle should further curbstomp the opposition shit. Fuck, I think one of those games is EGYPTIAN themed for that matter.
It's a Bejeweled clone with candies instead of jewels. One of a billion match 3 flash games available.Isn't Candy Crush Saga not just a ripoff of those old Columns, Bubble Bobble, Tetrisy style games?
These are the types of guys that need knocked down a peg or two.
Oh that's definitely true, that was just throwing salt on the wound really. The point is that if you look at the other definitions it's generally of a long, likely epic story, and I doubt these games even have stories in them. Certainly not likely to be anything that can truly claim to be saga material except maybe the receipts of any poor saps who pay deeply into these games. It's silly and stupid regardless and their games don't particularly strike me as Sagas, but that's a pretty shitty argument. A saga really doesn't have to be about vikings, and their games are arguably more Norse by default anyway
They're all a rip-off of a 20 year old game called The Balls:Fucking fuck off king.com
I'm making sure to never play any of their games now and am recommending the same to my family and friends. These fucks and their abhorrent business practices cannot be supported.

Aaaaaand that's how you get gamers to hate you. I will now actively argue against anyone DLing/buying any King games compared to previously not really caring.

Okay, now this is getting beyond ridiculous. Are you planning to SquareEnix too, King for their use of word Saga on their games? I would like to see you try against the big boys.
To be fair, that's Bethesda/Zenimax. They are cunts, it is known.Yea, I mean you'd never see a AAA studio pull the same move.
. Sounds like a lawyer going to far.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-01-21-indie-devs-troll-kings-candy-trademark-with-game-jamUPDATE #2: "Candy" trademark owner King has explained its reasons for opposing The Banner Saga's use of the word "Saga" in its name.
In a statement issued to Eurogamer, the casual games company defended its objection to the Norse strategy RPG and said it simply needed to contend the name to protect its own IP.
"King has not and is not trying to stop Banner Saga from using its name," a spokesperson explained. "We do not have any concerns that Banner Saga is trying build on our brand or our content. However, like any prudent company, we need to take all appropriate steps to protect our IP, both now and in the future.
"In this case, that means preserving our ability to enforce our rights in cases where other developers may try to use the Saga mark in a way which infringes our IP rights and causes player confusion. If we had not opposed Banner Saga's trade mark application, it would be much easier for real copy cats to argue that their use of 'Saga' was legitimate.
"This is an important issue for King because we already have a series of games where 'Saga' is key to the brand which our players associate with a King game; Candy Crush Saga, Bubble Witch Saga, Pet Rescue Saga, Farm Heroes Saga and so on. All of these
Can I sue King for attempting to infringe on something I put an investment into?
Basically.
But commence with the pitchforks and the wringing of hands.
Property of the person who actually created the word... who is long dead, and out of the window of copyright regardless.
You could try trademarking! But I wouldn't be surprised if the trademark system actually had a list of words like that prohibited from any trademark.
heh...
The worst part is that Candy Crush Saga is the bastard child of Bejeweled and Candyland... there's nothing original about their IP at all...
You can sue them for anything.
That doesn't mean you'll win.
I don't get it - how can King argue that they have targeted Banner Saga to keep their right to enforce their trademark in the future, while at the same time admitting that Banner Saga doesn't infringe or build on their brand. How is that even possible?
Also, King's reply against Banner Saga's application clearly states, that they consider a possible registration of Banner Saga as a trade mark would in fact be harmful to King's Saga brand.
Look, I'm not going to defend King.com's giving the guys behind Banner Saga shit because of a single word on a game that's not even remotely close to what they're going for. Sounds like a lawyer going to far.
But they should defend their game against other titles that are obviously trolling for clicks and getting in on some of that Candy Saga money.
I mean look - this is just a small sample of what you get when you look for Candy Crush Saga:
You'll notice in this list is another game called Candy Slot Machine Crush - Jewels Craze Casino Connect: Big Blast Mania Land, which clearly attempts to knock off the worlds Candy and Crush in the name.
Hey guess what? That Ben Hue guy who's Candy Slots game is calling foul of King about how they're grumbling about his game? Well his game was called All Candy Casino Slots - Jewel Craze Connect: Big Blast Mania Land. Oh would you look at that, it's practically the same as this other one! Oh the innocence!
I imagine King.com went after Candy Slot Machine Crush, which is attempting to get off of Candy Crush Saga, and King.com went after him for attemping to do the same thing by proxy.
I think that they are arguing that, while they don't care about the name of the game itself, they don't want the trademark "The Banner Saga" to exist since probably the trademark itself doesn't say that only applies to "Viking SRPGs".I don't get it - how can King argue that they have targeted Banner Saga to keep their right to enforce their trademark in the future, while at the same time admitting that Banner Saga doesn't infringe or build on their brand. How is that even possible?
Also, King's reply against Banner Saga's application clearly states, that they consider a possible registration of Banner Saga as a trade mark would in fact be harmful to King's Saga brand.
I read their comment as dangerously close to admitting that it's a spurious claim due to the lack of overlap between the two games and brands. I hope a judge or whoever oversees this process sees this and throws King's claim against Stoic out on it's arse.
Deleted Candy Crush Saga from my phone. Fuck'em.
"This is just a saga now.... "
Eh? So they know that this whole thing with The Banner Saga is ridiculous and they're making an example of them to defend against future clones? Somehow I hate them even more.
Besides the personal feelings that they just don't DESERVE it, I think it's a losing battle. Yes, they practically whored the word out for years, but many games came out with that word in them, and their trademark is already suspended. Now I just have to hope their claim gets fully wrenched from them sooner than later, if they wanted to make Sagas they should've gotten into RPGs or something instead.Unfortunately, they have some legal support here. Unlike copyright (where the holder is explicitly permitted to enforce as arbitrarily as they like, or grant whatever arbitrary license terms they choose), trademarks must be defended or they can be stripped by a court.
This was almost certainly an inappropriate, overreaching interpretation of that principle, but that's what's driving this process.
