Konami ceases triple-A console production on all but PES

I'm not sure if you have seen this video, but if you haven't you should take a look at this.

From around 18m42s in this interview, Kojima said that the President of Konami (during 2012) asked Kojima to make the next Silent Hill, which is probably why he made P.T.

Hideo Kojima Q&A: Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes and more at Eurogamer Expo 2012

I really miss the former president of Konami. He probably was a really ambitious guy when it comes to games, just like Kojima...

Whoopie doo who cares, they've sucked for a good while now. Kojima Productions was pretty much the final bastion of the company we once knew and loved, it's no coincidence that they didn't participate in this buffoonery.

If I had to guess next one will be Capcom.
Maybe. Depends on how they will treat their most successful IP (Resident Evil) and its latest sequel. They are also in some deep mess with their Panta Rhei engine. But they also have Monster Hunter which is alive and well in Japan so they won't go anytime soon.

How the mighty have fallen. Konami was top-tier during the MSX and SNES days. So many (semi) forgotten gems too, such as Snatcher, Cybernator (Assault Suit Valken), King's Valley.. Fuck, seeing their old logo hits right into the feels.

Even more top-tier during PSX era. Probably 2nd to only Square for quality and memorable game titles during that era.

Konami is not the only one. I fear for more casualties from Japan. Lets hope for the best :(
I think Capcom's a possibility to be worried about. There's internal strife with the board, all their console games seem to be shifting to service models and lowering production costs, their mobile efforts have mostly misfired and they're shifting to a cross-media Level 5 model for 3DS.

Hope the company goes bankrupt so they have to sell their IPs and all the good people then gets assumed by healthy (both financially and culturally) companies.
The higher ups must burn in hell.

Konami was dead for a long time now. Kojipro was the only dev left producing good games. You can give Konami as many fingers as you want, won't change a thing for them living on as a company that makes profit through fitness centers, pachinko etc.

Salute and move on.

It's going to be interesting to see how long they're going to keep the Metal Gear Online servers up this time around...

Sega Dreamcast Shenmue 1 and 2 game development, Sega Saturn gane development, sega dreamcast and sega saturn graphics engine R&D, worldwide marketing for the sega dreamcast = around $70 million.

Metal Gear Solid V game development for the PC, Playstation and Xbox = $80 million.

My gosh, MGSV is insanely expensive and make Shenmue's development cost near laughable. Does anyone know if the budget for MGSV also include R&D cost? Maybe it did which could explain the high cost. However, if it doesn't then that Spending vs Revenue ratio for MGSV better be worth it, otherwise, from a business point of view, Konami has more defense grounds to drop the series in consideration of time spent and spending amount. Who know...

Wait a minute. What about my Metal Gear Rising Revengence II?! I need my platinum games version of Raiden.

Anyway. I guess it is time to move on. Goodbye Konami.

Sega gave Yu Suzuki the Shenmue license (well for Shenmue 3)

How do we get Konami to do the same thing for Kojima and Sony to bankroll?

Konami need respect and goodwill towards the creator for that to happen... In other words a snowballs chance in hell at the centre of the Sun.

MGSV has so good base to expand gameplay. Shame it is left to rot in dark basement. Ubisoft needs to kidnap Kojima and buy rights to mgs and fox engine and make it yearly franchise.

Yup, from Vandal Hearts to Metal Gear Solid, Symphony of the Night, Silent Hill.. But stuff like Contra, Sparkster, Goemon, Castlevania IV, Cybernator, TMNT and Gradius from the SNES days and their early stuff on MSX - it's like part of my childhood playing that stuff. They were a bigger presence for me at least, during the PlayStation days I was in highschool and drowning in high quality games from all directions. Konami stood out for me on MSX and SNES but they sure kept their mojo during the PS days.

If konami isn't interested in console gaming and largely focusing off making bank, then I expect a some IP's going up for sale to the highest bidders.

I do know for a fact they have been ramping up casino slot machines.

Probably a smart business move. Won't be the last company. I feel many companies are all in on AAA games just because they have no other businesses. AAA game cost more to make than ever and the market for those type of games is declining.

Welp, it was nice while it lasted. What about licensing? Are they at least open to that? So many IPs dead...

I think Capcom is slowly becoming the next Sega. It remains to be seen if they can recoup the disaster of Panta Rhei and Deep Down though.
