Kotaku Rumor: Microsoft 6 months behind in game production for X720 [Pastebin = Ban]

sputum-flecked apoplexy
I don't think Microsoft care enough about a power difference to completely scrap their plans at the last moment and repeat all the hardware mistakes of the Xbox 1.

I know it's a popular fantasy that Sony have completely blindsided them with the PS4 and Microsoft MUST be panicking to respond, but I do not buy it at all.

I think Microsoft is going to go ahead with their plans full speed ahead. They're not going to be a reactionary because it is likely too late in the game even if they desired to be. I think the PS4 hardware did surprise them however. But to be honest, I don't think the RAM unveiling surprised them as much as Sony completely coming out of nowhere with a PS4 announcement. Not even the most diehard Playstation fans expected that. Hell, most people on GAF expected a 2014 launch for the PS4.

This is what I suggested in the reveal thread.

On evidence we actually have, I think Microsoft may not have originally planned a separate pre-E3 reveal at all. But they probably didn't expect Sony to have one either. They thought they could probably hog the E3 limelight.

But once Sony had an event, they realized they'd gave to too.

Or, like the 360 reveal only weeks before E3, they're doing the same thing again.

I was wondering when our daily paste bin (the ultimate and legit source for this type of info) blurb would show up.

This seems more plausible than the other ones

We've just finished our Kinect enabled application and its currently in review with Microsoft. It's gone through 3 reviews and the last review the MS developers failed us for 2 specific issues

1. our application on the latest beta SDK was exceeding 130MB continuously even when pushed to the background, apparently api's have changed in how applications are pushed to the background and certain events we were wiring up to no longer ran in a particular order. We needed to rework quite a lot of code to remedy this.

2. we made use of new DirectX 11.5 api's around prt's and we were not correctly clearing out the memory, even thou it is now unified we still need to ensure that memory is cleared out correctly. We missed this because of how the render planes work, they changed in the last update and these planes are now nicely virtualized B
UT before a plane is pushed to the background and before its virtualized we need to wire up an event to close connections and clear/dispose objects.

It's taken us 4 days to make these changes and as of this morning we've submitted what we hope is our last package to!

We already have 2 apps , this is our third and we hope we can make the cut for launch.

My fellow developers in the AAA Game studio, myself am in the APP studio, are in the last sprint before submission for review. They needed to rework the engine from ground up to take advantage of PRT's .. PRT's are a serious game changer, I have seen the textures they designers are coming up with , massively massive textures that span huge surface areas of a world all within a single texture. It's amazing what I've seen coming out from my fellow game developers/designers. And the real-time ray tracing (path) is a sight to behold, the global illumination and particle systems in our new engine is something I would not have thought possible for many years. You will be blown away when you see this hopefully on launch date..

Microsoft are clearly being very cautious on it's dev boxes/servers and its sdk's, there are daily check ups from the MS guys ensuring the boxes are not tampered with. Also the lockdown of our development offices is insane, its like those Intel adverts where the scientist is wearing a blue overall suite and they go into a sealed room with only what there wearing. It's the same for us, our development offices are closed off and in the last 3 months the number of security cards have pretty much tripled. Lots of security for us coders, but its also very exciting.

It's clear from my use of the sdk and the development environment that MS are definitely on track, they have a brilliant developer story that I know other developers will fall in love with once its public.

One last thing, my fellow game developer colleagues have pretty much said that they believe the Xbox is severely more powerful than the PS4, they were very surprised with just how much.. They've spent a great deal of effort reducing certain game textures/animations and the engine in general just to get a decent 60fps on the PS4. Clearly in their eyes the Xbox is leaps and bounds ahead of the PS4.

Can't wait for you all to see our game and apps hopefully on reveal day, but definetely at launch!

The next 2 weeks or so will be quite entertaining with these new rumors. At least have a bit more imagination when making this stuff up.

Gasoline, meet Fire.

At this point, I would take anything posted on pastebin with a spoonful of salt. Once the 21st hits and Microsoft reveals hardware plans, then we can go ahead and resume daily operation of posting anonymous pastebin stuff. Right now, it's a way to get utterly flamed by anyone who has any doubt in what Microsoft will do.

I agreed, Im new to the forum, but it didn't take that long to realize that.

Well there is ray tracing in Killzone 4! lol
It's limited by distance and isn't fully applied to the scene. I know you understand that but I want to make sure no one takes that as evidence that pastebin may be true. It's also a 30fps game.

Killzone 4 uses ray tracing

no .from what i seen it use what every other game use...cube mapping with maybe a low LOW resolution ray traced map ...for the reflections to improve the scene

this is a REAL TIME PATH TRACED engine..that already could beused in videogames....check the difference between this and kz4 :D lol

I couldn't agree more.

Next Xbox is several times more powerful than PS4 - which is counter to all previous rumors and rumblings that had them pretty much even.

Everything is wrong. MS will stun the world come 21st of May. The world...gamers...journos....even developers with actual kits will be shocked.

Game over Sony. Game over.

I believe this article. I don't have any evidence but my gut feeling tells me that MS had Durango in development with certain specs and when Sony came out and announced the PS4 with those 'high end' specs like the 8GB of ram, MS had to go back to the drawing board since their design is/was considerably weaker than those from the PS4. As a result of this, they probably had to scrap a few projects (software wise) and are behind schedule.

Doing a console from scratch is a process that takes a couple years at the very least.

Not when you have secret sauce

Not when your hardware was just bait to get your competitor to reveal their hand and then your reveal you true hardware.

Not when you can magically change tightly intrgrated custom hardware designs over night. ( just make it so ) and get developers up to speed in a jiffy.

The only restriction is your imagination.

Wow these Pastebin texts are shit, making the wait to 21st even more hard. You just want everything to be over now, so that we don't need to have more of that crap.

Some of the previous rumours have gotten some explanation though:

16 cores CPU dev kits - 8 Jaguar + 8 I don't know what CPU in order to simulate the SHAPE block (audio block). It seems that Durango has quite the capable sound HW and 8 cores was needed to simulate that.

8Gb RAM - well, apparently 8Gb will be the minimum amount.

GPU - Has lots if similarities with the Bonaire GPU. If around 1ghz then it was quite close to the PS4 equivalent..

There were some interesting rumours that MS upped the CPU, that it was not just the same as for PS4 (or that was even jaguar cores)..

Anyways, it seems that the wait til the 21st will be long and most likely, filled with new pastebin stuff.. :/

What is going on with this post? Another insider "wink wink"?

It makes sense. If PS4's GPU went the weaker route, MS would be comfortable at 1.2TFLOPS.

So why not have another design as a plan B?

Nah. ;)
Reiko I am a complete outsider I am joking.

Jesus, no. I'm just messing around with the quotee.

I know nothing. In fact I know less than nothing. If I even knew that I knew nothing that would be something, but I don't.
