All of you who are explaining the concept of "region lock" through Miiverse and other mediums: thank you for your help.
And speaking of help, we've got more:

Do you guys think Nintendo will ignore this and not respond to it? There are a heck of a lot of posts being put on Miiverse every minute, along with all the other social networks.

If they do respond, when do you guys think that will be?

They might actually cave and give everyone what they want. I know they said they're going to "do their own thing", but this is gaining a lot of support. It could actually generate sales in all regions as well. Which is something they desperately need right now.

Will it, though? I mean, yeah I'm very glad that there is buzz going on right now. But will these people clamoring for region free really spike sales? Especially since most of them are already coming from Miiverse already. We should also also ask the question of how dire the situation really is. Yes the Wii U is failing, but is it because of region lock? If Nintendo kept it this way until the end of the generation, do you honestly think this will have a significant effect on the console's sales?

This is not a situation like Xbox One, nor is it like Earthbound. This is case of Nintendo potentially losing money, over what? For all we know they are just waiting on this wave to die out and everyone will forget about it.

We need something a bit stronger, Nintendo should release region lock not to get new customers, but to retain the ones they have. If we speak with our wallets then they'd really listen.

Unfortunately I'm too weak for that :(

I think the 3DS would benefit the most. A spike in sales? Probably not... but maybe. I know several people who have avoided buying the system specifically because they travel and would not be able to buy games from other countries.

I think we can all agree that region-lock is the least of Nintendo's worries when it comes to the Wii U.

Please Understand.

I found a Yoshi one. It has no typos either.

Good news for people who want to post longer messages on Miiverse.

Gaaaaah, the pain I went through to fit all those shit in a grammatically inept post.

Hmmmph, how did my post ended up on the top 5 in E3 community page? Weren't there like dozens before me?

Nintendo is a business. When a bunch of people say "I want to buy your product, but you need to do X" then a business will listen. They might not always do what you want them to, they might not think it's worthwhile to do what you've asked, but they will always listen at the very least. There is no disadvantage in doing that from their perspective. At worst, they'll be better informed.

Nintendo has an interest in information collection. That's why Club Nintendo has those surveys. That's why they don't disable YouTube comments on their videos. That's why they use a streaming website that allows comments. That was probably factored into why Miiverse was created. It also probably factored into such elements as eShop charts and ratings.

There's no guarantee that we'll get a response, but Tom from Miiverse has probably been talking to some people.

Really happy that this initiative is steadily and increasingly gaining momentum. I'm also spreading the word among friends and acquaintances who are even potentially interested in buying a Nintendo console in the future. So far the support has been consistent and even enthusiastic at times.

Let's keep up the good work until Nintendo gives us a positive answer!

I've contributed with Yeahs and stuff, but do you guys think Nintendo will listen if they wouldn't after the 500k signatures regarding the conflict minerals stuff? I know this is has a more direct relationship to their business and is actually being asked by the fans of their products, but still...

It doesn't make any sense that 3DS is region-locked. People take it with them on their on their travels and can't buy any games for it if you're outside your own region, all the other portable systems by Nintendo were region-free, why not this one? And for Wii U, now that it's been confirmed that both the Xbox One and PS4 are region-free then there's no reason why Wii U shouldn't be.

Great work, i actually own an american 3ds while living in Europe. So having to import every game is a pain in the ass. I would definitely get more games if i could usa pal games as well. Hell my DS library was 50/50 divided usa/europe. I dont understand why they changed this.

Like I said, speaking with your wallets doesn't amount to anything since you don't actually give Nintendo any concrete information about why "you" in particular didn't buy the product. In this case, Nintendo will have to defer to overall market trends in lieu of your personal voice, and quite frankly region-locking is not a high priority for the general market at large.

This is why for a subset of users that do care, actually communicating with the company is more constructive for niche issues. This allows Nintendo to realize that even though region-locking is not a high priority, it still is a priority for a good amount of their customers.

Here's a good article on Toon Zone.

Today I wanted to buy Kokuga from the 3DS eShop.
Today I found out it's only available in the US.
Today I decided to not give my money to a system that support this bullshit, I've had it.

I've literally been turning my Wii U on every day just to like pro-Region Free posts. Has it worked yet?

Not exactly fair. To download shit from other regions I have three different PSN accounts that I had to look up fake information to create on my PS3. That isn't that much better, it just leaves a possible workaround.

....or you could just wait a month..it's confirmed as launching in Europe by the end of July.

Most digital stores (even on tablets and phones) are region locked. Even if Nintendo 3DS carts were region free the eshop wouldn't be.

I'm just tired to be taken for a fool. The release says it's hitting North and South America today. I go and check and nope, Canada isn't part of NA anymore. lel

I know you can change your region and like many other stores do a bunch of shit to buy a game from other regions...but why go through that hassle in the first place?

Region-lock is an archaic practice in today's world. It's a way of handicapping consumers by gimping their purchase options and restrict them to what the console-makers and publishers dictate. It needs to go away.

Why are there so many posts with # in them, I thought Miiverse deleted posts with twitter/facebook/tumblr links. Does Nintendo even pay attention to #?

And download demos? You can't actually play games without getting an extra memory card and going through a ridiculous process everytime you want to switch accounts.

Tiny sacrifice compared to what I had to go through to play Japanese 3DS games. Fortunately (?), I don't think Vita has any non-Japanese titles I care about, so I'm just fine with my one "j-account" memory card.
