How hard is it to just put everything belongs in a game...... in a game? :p

I have nothing against additional downloads that are actually being worked on after a game's released and then offered as additional content, but this is just lame as ****.

My thoughts exactly.

My thoughts on LE/CE shit was that they provide a shiny case (for us raccoons who are enamoured by shiny objects), and some material that fans of the games would like. Stuff to read, behind the scenes movies, tidbits... Not a ****ing map.

Strap on your hooker ...
I'm sure these will be available to download within a month of release. Probably for a nominal fee, though. :\

About the one bundled with the demo... um, what if you want to delete the demo, can you keep the map? Those things take up a lot of HD space.

i don't mean to be devils advocate, cuz it seems that the general reaction to this is unanimous. but, isn't it possible.. even probable that these extra maps aren't really finished yet? if they were finished, they would be included on the game at the time of purchase.. its not like there isn't room for it on the disc. i do admit that this is undoubtedly a way to get people to want the CE, but i really doubt that they are just sitting on these finished maps and holding out on us

The maps will be available day 1, no? Thus they're ready, and there's no reason, greed and stupid marketing trickery aside, for them NOT to be on disc for every well paying customer to enjoy.

I've come to terms with the "we actually worked well after the game launched on this stuff, so we'll charge you for it". It's rarely the case, and even more rare to be fairly priced, but I've come to terms. But stuff like this is just lame.

Anywho, Lost Planet is gonna kick the door on the beast that is '07. It's gonna be so sweet.

What, you think the CE is going to be released later? Since when has that ever happened?

Whine whine, seems like a decent bonus for preordering/collectors edition to me. People that don't get the CE can probably buy it later. It's not like you won't be able to play multiplayer.

They sold me with the tin and art book... the map had no factor in my decision. It'll be available for everyone else eventually.

Good grief. Somehow I missed this yesterday and didn't spend much time on GAF today.

Next gen freaking sucks.

I'm so close to not even bothering with it. If it weren't for having played Halo 1 and 2 and needing to play Halo 3, I probably wouldn't.

yeah the final box has the T rating, the NTSC logo, and another little logo at the top that apparently doesn't mean much :)

You have no idea how much this is pissing me off.

Screw it, I'm done. I'm not a next gen gamer. I might change my mind in a year or whenever, but I'm out. This industry sucks.

Reading, watching Law & Order, and playing what I already own ftw.

So...you're just going for the 'tard SKU then?

More like the No SKU.

Next gen is all about raping the consumer and being rather blunt about it. At least lie to me. I'm not supporting it. I'm getting too old for this foolishness.

I think dismissing the entire generation this way is a bit much. Mind you, I'm utterly pissed and deeply disappointed in Capcom, but the whole baby --> bathwater thing makes me take a step back. There's a lotta goodness in next gen, but it's becoming clear discerning consumers will have to keep a look out.

I agree that this is the worst, most blated customer-**** I've seen so far this gen, and on a AAA title as well. Had the last traier not whipped me up into an excited froth, I'd pass on it.

Then again, I'll put over 90% of my time in SP - I'll still be doing Gears online when this comes out and it's not my style for MP. But it certainly doesn't motivate me to want to do MP.

Man I can't wait for Lost Planet's MP! I think its better then GoW!

The grappling mechanic will be awesome for mp!

Doesen't the game also support up to 32 online?

I've been ignoring this thread since I do not normally care about CE's but then Luke said the thing about the thing on the thing so here I am. This will turn me off to the game. I am not going to support this sort of thing but I haven't decided to what degree I am willing to go.

Bethesda lost a $60 customer with their post-launch handling of Oblivion so I may just start buying these sorts of games once they are ~$20. Pity that it won't make a difference but I'll feel a bit less slimey and screwed. Yay games!

This isn't the first game to pull this nonsense, and it won't be the last one. But it really is getting ridiculous.

When Microsoft unveiled their dual SKU pricing structure and accessories and all of that at the Leipzig GC last year, that's when it started snowballing. I'm just not interested enough in this crap to justify all this added expense.

I'm in the basement, I haven't had a paycheck in a few weeks, I didn't get any cake, they just shut off the lights and Lumberg won't give me back my FREAKING stapler.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE INDUSTRY!:lol

GAF overreaction as usual. Microtransactions killed my family!

Cry about it. Seriously.

These maps will fracture the userbase as much as the Tard pack as done for the 360. If these incentives have a large impact on the number of preorders, and as a result sales increase by quite a bit, and as a result we get more awesome Capcom love, then WE ALL WIN. If Capcom implements a stupid system where you're playing on a server, and then you get booted because it switches to a map that you don't have... well, then it won't really be worth $60 now will it? This is one of the things that will be IMPERATIVE that previews/reviews inform us on beforehand.

you're an xbox

Seriously, no one wins if strategies like this succeed. Of course, judging by the purchasing habits of the current 360 userbase, you don't need to worry about the "if."

Hmm you get a free ticket for preordering?

I'll probably get ****ed like I did when I preordered BFME2. None of this extra ticket BS, thanks.

Why? You make this statement like it's irrefutable truth, but I just demonstrated how it can work out better for gamers. Sure there's a danger like I outlined, but to say that it's bad PERIOD, is flat out false.

Demo bonuses that affect the game?
Preorder bonuses that affect the game?
Collector's Edition bonuses that affect the game?

How are those not bad precedents to set, again?

Well, you haven't actually explained WHY the effect is a bad one. Actually, I'm the one that's explained how it could turn out bad. However, if they structure things like Halo 2 where it's no problem to find games with people that have the same maps as you, then it's NO PROBLEM. Get it? The bonuses are just that: Bonuses. Little niceties/incentives to get people to part with more of their money earlier. Something that businesses have been doing since the beginning of time.

Niceties? Incentives?

They're three maps that should be on freaking disc the day the game ships, because apparently they will be ready to go at that time. Withholding content is not something to encourage.

Ugh.

Take me back to the cartridge days. Please. Tecmo Bowl, Mario, freaking Paperboy.

Did you guys ever think that maybe these maps couldn't fit on the DVD? :lol

Anyways "Map 1" is exclusive to the Collector's Edition and will be for download or on the disc?

"Map 2" will be a preorder bonus and might be availible on Marketplace so basically people are getting it for free for pre-ordering?

"Map 3" will be a download so only accessible to people with Live and won't be on the disc but rather integrated into the game on release?

Silly but still cool that we get access to hopefully multiple maps before release regardless for people that are excited for the game. Hopefully it won't have stupid matching that fractures the userbase. Really though we pay $10 more and still get screwed if we don't preorder and if we don't pony up for the ****ing collectors and that's bullshit cause all of it really sounds like it should be on the disk. Companies are getting greedy and this is just ridiculous, it's like double rape.

You're not making any sense, sorry. Timing really doesn't have much to do with this. You have to look at the economics of the situation. There's a good possibility that these maps wouldn't even EXIST, as in they wouldn't have been created, if Capcom didn't intend to use them for this purpose in the first place. Just because the maps have been created before the game ships doesn't ENTITLE you to them. You're entitled to nothing.

Actually, the consumer decides what he feels entitled to. The consumer can choose not to buy the game. :p

gaffers :rolleyez

Just to head off some of the potential hysteria, Capcom has not yet officially announced the contents of the collectors edition package (some retailers have been briefed on a few of the items under discussion, but not all that is planned/under discussion). In all honesty, if people think what's posted here (or in the Neogaf thread) is exactly what's going to be in the box, they will likely be at least partially mistaken. There will be well in excess of $10 worth of value.

Again, "sorry to be vague but all will be made clear soon(TM)"

I think I'm just going to permanently leave that statement on my clipboard to copy and paste as often as I use it. :)

No one is criticizing the contents of the CE or the CE itself. We are against the holding back of completed content for "exclusives" which that statement does not refute. You can take your rolly eyes and shove them up your ass, thank you very much. :D

Gaffers (like always) jump to conclusions... the contents are not finalized yet. In fact, that post I quoted is from a thread where he's asking fans what they would like in the CE, from just a couple of days ago.

Updates for those that do not follow the Capcom forums: There is a plastic overlay on the CE that can be removed. After removing it, it looks like this. Looks pretty sweet to me, especially the art inside.

The sad thing about this is that I read it as originally if you preordered the CE, you'd get another map to play in the demo (which would of been an awesome idea.)

Err, we're actually expecting the LP multiplayer demo to hit anytime now. According to the mods there, it'll be announced very soon. There's already an article about it on Gamespot. GeoW supposedly came with a flier telling of the imminent release of the multiplayer demo on MP.

Maps shmaps, I'll pay $10 extra bucks just to have a fancy case.

I dont get the LE-hate, more people seem to complain about this than when EA charge AUS$119 for a bare-bones game case with nothing but a disc and a wafer-thin black and white manual, so I'm more than happy to give my extra cash over for fancy game packaging that has a lot of love behind it.

Released along with GS's announcement of the MP map is the marketing campaign Capcom is launching with this game. Looks like it's gonna be huge and they chose a decent movie to get the word out (decent as in...lots of people know about it..not necessarily good movie).

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/adventure/lostplanet/news.html?sid=6161442

In an industry first, Capcom is providing an added incentive to preorder the game with participating retailers. Beginning on "White Friday," gamers that preorder either the standard or limited Collector's Edition at participating retailers will receive a special token card. Each of these cards includes a unique code that will allow them to download a separate, special version of the multiplayer demo, which contains an additional "Dilapidation" map, giving them the jump on two of the eight multiplayer environments that will be available in the final game. Never before have players been able to access an exclusive map for a demo on Xbox Live through a retail driven pre-order campaign.

The CG trailer will be presented on the grand scale that only a theater environment can offer, transporting players to another world where harsh, frigid terrains come across through vivid imagery and immersive sound. The theater campaign will begin on November 17 and will continue through the end of the month in conjunction with "PG-13" and "R" rated movies including the big budget "CASINO ROYALE" Bond film. Approximately 10 million consumer impressions are expected with the trailer's run on more than half of all screens in the country, including United Artists, Regal Cinemas, Cinemark, AMC, Edwards and more.
