LTTP: E.X. Troopers

This game is mindless Capcom fun at its finest! The game is a very fast TPS with gameplay straight out of Lost Planet (except much faster and stripped down.) The missions are bite-sized with very straight forward objectives. Light levelling, upgrades and loot elements. GORGEOUS cel-shaded graphics with a very futuristic style. Good soundtrack. There's barely any variety when it comes to environments and enemies.

I can't comment on multiplayer because online MP is only available in the PS3 port (Its probably amazing). There's a language barrier when it comes to e-mails and the main story, but otherwise you won't get lost during the gameplay.

This game is infamous for never getting localized in America and Europe, aswell as sharing assets and engine with the cancelled Megaman Legends 3.

If you're interested in importing, the PS3 version is extremely cheap these days. PS3 is region free while 3DS is region-locked, so that may be a benefit too. Interested in seeing if people prefer the 3DS controls or the PS3 controls.

There's not much substance to this game, but its so stylish and cool it doesn't really need substance. Plenty of content here too with some free DLC missions.

Has anyone played this game? Thoughts?

it is my greatest disappointment in games that this did not get localized

this is my localization unicorn don't judge me

This game always looked real cool. Did you have any issues with the language?
E.X. Troopers is one of the few imports I own, and I would say it is fairly import friendly. There is a lot of text, but most of it is fairly inconsequential. You won't really know wtf is going on with the story or anything, but the gameplay is good and worth it. Might take you half an hour or so to get acclimated to the hub area and controls because of the language barrier, but once that happens you should be ok.

The story is a complete no-go for me. I've been able to find out some of the settings, food buffs, and item descriptions by using a translation app though thankfully

Nothing that directly interrupts gameplay! This game is insanely linear. The missions never strays away from these objectives:

Point A to B
Defend area
Clear area
Activate checkpoints
Bosses with clear weak points

I adore EX Troopers. The sad thing is that it also sold like shit in Japan, so even though I DID play multiplayer, there were only ever 5-6 people online to get a game with.

I thought multiplayer was really good, though, and ended up going through the whole thing, including the black flag DLC missions.

Fantastic combat, awesome weapons, and multiplayer allowed you to play as pretty much any character in the game, provided you found the item that unlocked them in Single Player.

Played the the demo and fell in love with it , I'm still shocked capcom hasn't revived this game here in the west.

It would be perfect for the switch at $19.99

I know that feeling, the best I got was about 3-4 weekends of MP a few weeks after release when I went on at peak Japanese times, even then though the most I saw was about 20 people online but I had a blast with it those times that I did play, it was cool because for a game with such small levels you still encountered varying styles of play in it but naturally the more chaotic games where everyone just gets stuck in are the most fun.

Honestly E.X. Troopers is one of my favourite games from last gen. It was pure fun, as you say OP the graphics and animation style were lovely to look at and it has one of my favourite soundtracks (and if you like it look up the End of Conversation remixes released a few years back). I really wish we got the extra co-op missions we were supposed to get but with the poor sales I'm not surprised Capcom just let it go. That being said I bloody loved those that are in the game, they can be so tense at times but are heaps of fun. Good to see more people importing the game, I imported it at a time when I was learning basic Japanese and it was extremely helpful as basically all dialogue is in text format as well, but you can follow the game pretty easily regardless.

Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!

I only ever played the Japanese PS3 demo. The visuals are nice and I love the upbeat and stylish feel of it, like some lost Sega game. Ultimately though it had me wishing I was still playing the slightly less forgotten Lost Planet 2, which has much better levels and more features. I do appreciate how many chances Capcom took with the IP, it's got a lot of unique titles attached to it.

One of the secret best games of last gen. I was already a big Lost Planet fan, but I imported the PS3 version when it came out and am really glad I did.

LTTP? At least you responded to the invite...

Man, EX Troopers looks so cool for a 3DS title! MH4 looks great, so it's not like we're totally forgotten what this platform is capable of (some of the games that take advantage of New 3DS are pretty sweet too), but I remember when RE:R and other early MT Framework games were coming out and putting everything to shame, there was me just thinking that it was a matter of time before other companies got the hint and put 3DS to work ... never ended up being a premium value for 3DS owners, unfortunately. But now we have Switch and now I don't have to worry about wishing games I play on the train looked cooler.

I finished the game on 3ds and loved it. Loved the dialog as well. I just remembered I downloaded this on PS+ as well and never got around to playing that version.

A friend and I imported copies of the PS3 version at the same time, half intending to co-op. We're also busy adults, so it's been literally years since we did this.

In addition to being really fun, EX Troopers is also one of the best looking games on 3DS, hands down -- I was continually impressed by it, even in high-intensity action scenes. Capcom are flippin' wizards with that little device.

The language barrier is quite low, so I heartily recommend anyone on the fence for that reason to give it a try.

If I had to complain about the game, it'd be the fact that despite the decently huge variety of weapons, only a handful of them are any good. They're all cool, but in terms of killing enemies quickly and safely, most of them fall short. That problem is made more apparent by the fact that practically every mission has one or two bonus medals that require you to be fast, never get hit, or keep an ally or control point from ever being hit. The medals don't unlock anything important -- just costumes and music tracks and such -- but the story mode isn't all that long, so you'll definitely want to go for those medals to get your fill of the gameplay.

Love the game, very easy and fun to play not much of a language barrier and its a Spin-Off to the Lost Planet series at I love.

Controls are so much better on the PS3 then the 3DS and the 3DS feels janky at times. With the added option for online play on the PS3 it made it the must have version.

it has a great soundtrack and fun side missions, I think its only downside was why did they have to have a bathing suit mission, I love Anime and Manga but since its an Ice Planet with little Terraforming it made no sense.

I loved playing this game on the 3ds, though I'd like to try the PS3 version at some point. I got stuck at some points but there was a site in the OT that had the mission parameters translated.

This and Sengoku Basara remain two of the better import-only titles. I can understand why neither got localized (well, SB3 did and it did poorly) but it still sucks that most of the world is missing out on such quality titles.

It never really stuck with me long after going through it but E.X Troopers was pure energy playing through it. Just constant top-quality presentation combined with an onslaught of saturated color, lively characters, energetic music and satisfying arcade shooting.

If anyone is considering it, it's worth the playthrough. Aside from running around the hub areas a little to figure out the next mission trigger, I faced no difficulty going through from start-to-finish.

Ugh, thanks for reminding me of the massive fuckup on Capcpom's part it was not localizing this and foisting Lost Planet 3 on the west instead.

Not sure whether or not it's coincidental that it was around this time that I just sorta stopped being hyped about Capcpom whatsoever.

One of the best games on the 3DS (seriously!). Playing with the 3D effect on is unreal. Such a shame it never got localized.

The PS3 version is great too. I have that but have only played a bit of it.

Does anyone know how to use the wrapped gifts you get throughout the game? What are these even for?!
It's been almost 5 years (quite random this thread was made so close to that anniversary) so I can't really remember but I thought that some of those you can gift to some NPCs?

Edit: Nevermind, pretty sure that's wrong. There must be a menu you can open them from.

I've been meaning to play this game for a while. I imported it back in February, but got too swamped by school work to play it.

Would be nice to get some GAF games going at some point.

Really enjoyed this on PS3, to bad it was never localized. I think it could've built a pretty decent fanbase in North America.

This is my favourite PS3 import game I own. I love the art style. I had no idea it was on the 3DS, too, so thanks for that.

BTW, this game is strangely in the Lost Planet universe, but the art style is so different, I guess that's why it never made it over.

I also didn't know about the Mega Man 3 stuff, so thanks for sharing.

I speak and read Japanese, and I can tell you -- you're not missing much. But yeah, this is probably the best PS3 game that never made it West.

So good, I bought it twice! Will never get tired of E.X. Troopers.

Has an absolutely stellar soundtrack (E.X. TROOPERS The Bounded Soundtrack) along with a superb remix album (E.X.TROOPERS - END OF CONVERSATION -) that shouldn't be missed.

I like it but the frame-rate is pretty lousy. Really could use a PS4 release with those issues ironed out.

First game I imported when I got my Japanese 3DS and honestly, now that I think about it, it was actually the prime reason I imported my 3DS in the first place.

As for the game, it's phenomenal and probably the best looking game on the 3DS before MH Stories came out.

I loved this game on 3ds. If it had cross play with ps3 that would have been awesome!

If everyone is moving to ps3 though I can definitely do that.
