MARIO + RABBIDS: Kingdom Battle |OT| XCOM on mushrooms

Use whatever feels fun for you.

There was one player earlier in the thread who quit after world 3, since that player refused to use something called Easy Mode when the game became too difficult:

They also apparently refused to use different characters going by their comment about the videos they watched, which was probably the source of their problem to begin with.

Who thought having no checkpoint after the fight before the World 4 mid boss was a good idea? I just want to restart the mid boss battle after I fucked up damn it.

Fighting Browser Jr in the Lava world. Its so hard.

I use R. Mario and Peach.

The actually battle isn't so hard I find, I'm using Rabbit Peach and Peach for those sweet heals and protection when he's hammering on me. A lot of over watching and moving in pipes, shoot and keep moving so he can't get you.

I got him to 70 HP on my first try but I miscalculated how far he can walk and then he smashed my team, with a 250 damage pummeling.

Not to whine but did we just completely give up on spoiler tagging things?

It's not like they're unpredictable but I would have liked to not know who I'd be fighting in world 4.

Sorry, man! I thought it was it was pretty straight forward since it's like your goal. Hope I didn't ruin it too much for you. I'll spoiler tag it for the others.

Nah, I already saw it earlier in the thread; didn't mean to attack you specifically, sorry.

Just thought everyone was being pretty good about spoiler tagging everything and then there was a sudden shift to not doing so in the past few days.

Fuck the sliding stone puzzles. I always get in a hurry and Bleepy or whatever it's name is registers the push on the side instead of where I wanted it to be. A couple of them make you start all over if you push it the wrong way and the controls seem a little too sloppy for these puzzles.

Other than that though, everything else about this game is amazing. At the last battle (I think). Almost won on my first try, but I had to go to bed last night for work. I'll beat it when I get home from work.

Does the last skill (looks like a drilling icon) open up anything worthwhile? I know there are several places to use it, but it might just be a shoehorned way to add replay value after getting it after you beat the game...

World 4 has crashed on me so many times I nearly thought I wouldn't finish the game. Right after the (characters spoiler)
Bwario and Bwaluigi
battle, twice, black screen of death.

Anyways, glitches aside I had a lot of fun with the game. I think my pros and cons are the same as anybody's, mainly that the combat is really well thought of, the difficulty balanced enough (some of those spikes are a bit jarring but the Easy Mode option doesn't feel too bad for that extra push if needed, IMO) and the overall presentation absolutely stunning. Seriously, Mario RPG with that art direction? Yes please. Well, if the Switch could handle it (it clearly struggles with some scenes here already).

The puzzles got tiresome. The mashing "A" to get blocks to move very quickly becomes a problem. The fact that you're only controlling Beep-0 during those parts and seeing how small of a character they are doesn't help. I mean, you can miss a blue coin sometimes simply because of how small their hitbox is. A small map, a way to know how many loot boxes are left in any level without having to warp back to Peach's Castle, a quick way to warp from a world to another once a world is clear would have been welcome as well. They're all QOL improvement so nothing major, but they would have significantly raised my enjoyment of the game.

Two more gripes: although the themes are awesome (as expected), the overall sound design really isn't. World 4's constant (character)
Browser Jr.
snickering made me mute the whole thing. The sound cues for the Rabbids / observation points also annoyed me. I can see the icon just fine, you don't need to ring me as well. It doesn't help that most of the lines for these are bad as well (not necessarily the target audience there, though).

I didn't mind the rabbid obligation (one per party) but yeah I'll echo what others have said: Mario shouldn't be a prerequisite. The cast is large enough you'd want to be able to switch things up more and that spot being always taken by the same ol' character doesn't help.

Anyways, my final trio was Mario, Rabbid Luigi (vampire dash made it virtually unkillable) and
Yoshi
because of their jump ability. I went through nearly all of World 4's fights with them.

Ultimate Challenge 3 is really drilling home how much I hate the spawning system in this game.

It punishes you for doing well and having enemies pop up and take their turn at the same time is some kinda bullshit particularly in these numbers.

Spawn 6 enemies near the end, they get to move/attack, then the next turn theres already more incoming. This time without any of your overwatch abilites available.

This isn't even relegated to the Ultimate challenges either. It happens during the normal challenges and the story battles.

I'm just frustrated. I'll beat these eventually but the often random and untouchable nature of the spawns is anti-strategy and therefore anti-fun.

Nervous this game is going to be too hard for me later on and I"ll give up. Going to grind the fuck out of it.

can you redo battles after? I'm exploring world 1 after beating it already and other than the new challenges, don't see any way of redoing battles.

The washing machine lets you redo battles.

Yep, there's a washing machine building in the hub that lets you replay levels. I don't think you can grind XP though. You can get bonus XP by doing the challenges after beating a world though.

The game is pretty fair about giving you orbs through natural progression but You can also revisit worlds and do challenge maps. Also Keep in mind you can always reset your skill trees based on your needs for a certain battle or challenge. This is a big help later on.

There is no grinding. You can replay 1-1 a hundred times and you qont get any more skill pointa or hp, only gold and its not like you need more of that.

Here is the easy way, his own bombs hurt him when he walks through them. Kill the valkyries, After Jr. throws down a bomb, Move two guys keeping them as far away from the center as possible. Before character three moves shoot bowser jr., he'll walk through the bomb and take damage. Don't have anyone else shoot him or use hero sight. Keep circling around this way until you can safely finish him off by shooting him, Mario and Luigi pack a punch with their hero sight.

Really enjoying the hell out of this game. Slowly playing through it, and I just beat World 3. What a fantastic world. With the music, the different environments...all that was missing was a haunted house! I hope they expand the exploration in a sequel, and let you platform like Mario Odyssey, but fight like an SRPG. The diorama esque structure makes me yearn for a way to explore beyond the plateau.

Either way, I'm going through the world again for the challenges, which are some of my favorite gameplay segments. Really pleased. 🙂

Going back to world 3 to find all treasure and hidden level and challanges is awful however. Worst world by far regarding that.

Got up to 4-8 right now. The game keeps being amazing but I can do without all the boulder slider, it really slows down the pacing.

I want so many amiibo's of all these characters.

Tell me about it.

I somehow went from Challenge 1, to Challenge 2, to Challenge 8 with a bunch of empty battle areas in between. I feel like just moving on to the next World.

Just finished the final boss.

I really liked the game and now I'm going for those last 10 challenges and
the other 4.
Still, I feel like the last chapter dragged.
-No new mechanics
-No new enemies
-Too many puzzles in this level,
-And the battles weren't memorable.
-Also,
Yoshi
wasnt really good or fun to use (the stomp was great, but too dangerous).

In the later levels M-Power + Rabbid Mario song+Hammer was just too strong cleaning almost the full map in one turn.

I'm hoping for a sequel with more variety in enemies, unique weapons for every character and more characters and please let me change Mario from the party (I used 2 "random" characters for every battle avoiding repeats).

Also, what are the chances on the Rabbids going to smash? I was annoyed because I was forced to use them at the start, but I loved the 4 of them by the end (specially my boy Rabbid Luigi) I'd like them to be a character in smash like the Pokemon Trainer.

Just beat it
(That FB reveal at the end was great)
. Great game, bought the season pass and waiting on the DLC. I just wish those steampunk weapons weren't so useless and we could buy every weapon from the HQ. I horded a lot of coins and just bought the best primary and secondary available for each character after the ending. Hopefully the DLC will provide a lot more coins for doing so and also an excuse to play the other half of the cast as I pretty much stuck with Mario, Rabbid Mario, and Rabbid Luigi the entire game.

I guess I should try to go for 100% next. Also best believe we'll be seeing these Rabbids in the next Smash. lol

Yeah, there could have been more varying enemies, there were a lot of smashers and shield guys, sometimes it seemed even a bit lazy to just drop a whole group of them together, there wasn't even a challenge anymore or new tactic you needed to come up with.

The spawns can be unfortunate, but what I found out late in the game helped: if their ears stick out, the battle plan screen shows which enemy is going to pop up if you move your cursor there. So you can plan accordingly. If it's shield guys you can take action, but for other types you don't have to anticipate that much.

Ravelle

Enemies can also overwatch and attack in one turn, even XCOM isn't that cruel.

Your team can do that too yes but my overwatches are usually ruined by shield bunnies or they shoot the wrong enemy.

I got bitten by a huge bug that corrupted my save file.

I was replaying level 2-8 with the Washing Machine and collected a red-coin chest when the game stopped working. However, I was still able to go back to the washing machine using the menu.

But when I later restarted the game, I had 0% story completion, 45% chests and 0 challenges done. All things around the castle was gone.

If I use the washing machine to retry and get a perfect in one battle can I complete it an return to Peach's castle or do I have to do every battle in that level for it to register?

I believe it saves when you see them do the victory poses and you get the reward screen.

Replay World 3 going over the entire world meticulously.

Return to Peach's castle and check world status.

Missing 1 chest.

Haven't posted here much, but I'm really loving this game. It's left a good impression on me as my first SRPG type game. I just got to World 4 today, and I'm still a bit disappointed that Yoshi isn't unlocked yet. I'm enjoying everyone else though.

My fav teams are Mario, Luigi and Rabbid Mario and Mario, Rabbid Luigi and Peach.

I think my only gripes with the game are how you must have one Rabbid on your team. I like all the playstyles but I would really love a Mario, Luigi and Peach squad. Also moving around with Beemo is really awkward, especially those blue cannon rooms. Other than that...enjoying everything else.

Hope to get it all finished within a week or so by the time Metroid Samus Returns and Xenoverse 2 get delivered later this week.

What the fuck.

The game just crashed right near the end of Challenge 10 in World 4. You gotta be fucking kidding me with that shit luck.

Second time this game has crashed so far, and I also get numerous bouts of stuttering and freezing playing the game. Unacceptable and needs to be patched.

Finally got to the last boss last night and on the fourth try got
Bowser's third phase down to 130 HP before being picked off by his spin attack when I had nowhere to hide. Is that the last part of that fight? I had to put the game down and go to bed I was so frustrated.

I finished the game 100% last night wooo! Here are my top characters:

1. Luigi. He was in my team like 95% of the time, because he's useful in just about every situation. His Itchy Feet, Double Jump, and increased Team Jump range are great for Reach the Area missions. Itchy Feet also helps in Escort missions. And in general, he can do a ton of damage with Steely Stare and the Sentry sub-weapon. You just have to keep him out of harm's way because of his low HP. But his range is huge, so that's usually not a problem.

2. Rabbid Luigi & Rabbid Mario. Basically the front line character who dashes in to enemies and takes damage if need be. I generally used R. Luigi for the bigger, lengthier battles so others could heal off the Vamp status, and R. Mario for the smaller, denser battles, particularly the challenges with lots of enemies. I'd say one or the other was in my team about 90% of the time.

3. Rabbid Peach. I swapped in R. Luigi for R. Peach for the even bigger, lengthier challenges, especially the Escort challenges, so that I could keep everyone healed up. Vamp status alone just wasn't cutting it. I actually found R. Peach to be a pretty effective attacker too though. She has a Sentry sub-weapon, which is the best. I only used R. Peach a dozen times or so, but I definitely could have used her more.

Other than that, I think I used Rabbid Yoshi twice, Peach once (other than the mandatory battle), and Yoshi never. Looking at their skill trees, I'm not sure I'm missing out. Oh well.
Same exact strategy, except I used Rabbid Yoshi instead of Rabbid Luigi.

I finished the game last night. Took a surprisingly long time (30 hours) and I didn't even do many of the challenges, but by God did this game rule.

My only complaint is that you get Yoshi far, far too late.

How long did it take everyone else? I've read 20 hours, which blows my mind.

Ravelle

Member
I also just finished it and my gametime sits around 50 hours, it has been idling from time to time and I'm not sure it sleep mount counts but my guess 35 to 40 hours is my time. I spent a lot of time retrying some hard levels.

I really loved it but it seemed halfway it lost some steam and the stage's became a bit lazy with the same type of enemies thrown at you, all the way to the final boss.

Other than that thought it was fantastic, it could use quality of life improvements like checkpoints between every fight and letting not locking us with certain characters in some.

Or just letting us pick from a menu to which world we would like to go instead running around that Island what we already had to do to visit the HQ. We can access the HQ anywhere in and out of battle but when you're actually at the castle you HAVE to go to it for some reason.

Oh and for the possible sequel no more sliding puzzles and please make them permanent, I don't want to solve them every time I revisit that place.

Yep, I spent two days until I finally found the golden team combo with some bullshit combination of getting set on fire and being oversighted every time, followed by 5 dudes barraging me without a means to defend myself. I also got screwed over a couple of times because I got nowhere to run after a couple of hits, the other black blocks were on the other side of the map with a chasm between it I couldn't get to.

Man, fuck this last challenge on World 4. I have 9 HP left with Mario and all I need is my bounce special effect to activate for the win and of course it doesn't activate when I need it the most. I'm so pissed.

edit: finally beat it, had to switch out R.Mario for R.Peach for the healing. Now I just need to do the 4 ultimate challenges for 100%.

Is there a list out there that correspondents the different collectibles to their number in the artwork/model/music/tarot lists? I've seen tons of treasure chest guides, but I need some way beyond process of elimination to figure out what I'm actually missing. For example, I'm missing Art Piece #3. But I have no fucking clue what Art Piece #3 is, so I don't know how to find it on the guides.

I mean, the collectibles are literally numbered. Why do none of these guides use that as a very easy and simple identifier?

What will I lose if I quit chapter 3-5 (Calavera battle), go back to Peach's castle and do some challenges in World 1 and 2?

Heck, you should really be doing the challenges as soon as they're available or you'll be making things hard for yourself. The extra orbs and coins and weapons are super useful. Plus, they become waaaaay to easy if you don't, they're balanced for immediate play.

Appreciated; I don't need it yet but it'll be useful for mopping things up at the end.

Still a little annoyed there's no map/collection screen while out in a world, even when exploring it after beating it.
