Wow! PSP has been selling very well since the release of the PSP slim.
Also the Wii appears that will sell constantly well due to the legs of MK, Smash Bros, Wii Sports and Wii Fit.
The NDS seems to be declining in sales (although it's selling very good). A redesign should put it back on top.
PS3 IS OVER 9000!!!!
PS2 is on it's last years.
360 is dead.

At 15,000 yen PS2 is reaching it's last legs. A price drop to something insane like 10,000 would probably revive it though. Not that it will happen soon since they are cash cowing it.

Probably because there are two other colors not on that chart but on theirs that makes the blue less visible. A partially saturated purple color and a dense sapphire color.

Anyone else find it funny that the most successful third party game this year for home consoles so far is Deca Sports.

The sad thing is that it might stay that way for the whole year.

Considering how awful 2007 was for the PS3, it's amazing that 2008 has somehow turned out worse. If things keep going the way they are, the Wii could hit 10 million before the PS3 hits 3 million. :eek:

OK, how about this for Sony spin. Looking at PLs fine graphs you can see that the PS3 is selling a little less in 2008 than 2007. But look at the Wii. It is selling a lot less these past few weeks.

Tide turning?

i've noticed that DS games are becoming more common in the top 50 recently, especially in the lower ranks.

massive delayed legs perhaps?

also, it's interesting how MKWii's legs are shaping up.

Ok, I've gone on long enough estimating "next week's" console sales and have done zero self-reporting. The time is now:

Wii:
Looks like I've been guessing a bit too high on the Wii almost every week. The one that looks a bit out of whack on 04-13-08 was me mischaracterizing the hardware impact of MarioKart combined with looking a bit too closely to last-year's results (Year vs. Year). I may have done it again this week, but unless I'm horribly off, next week's sales will include Golden Week, which last year saw an increase from 3 week prior of 100%. I'm going to be a bit more modest and hope I don't get burned by guessing too low.

Wii: 63.5k

PS360:
Take me to Vegas on these ones. Note: last year Golden Week did NOTHING for the PS3 or the 360. I believe that will stay the same. Any growth they see will be Wii/DS/PSP shortages.

PS3: 11.2k
360: 2.5k

Famitsu was nicer to PS3. To think that with VC selling OK for the week PS3 probably would've dipped even lower. That or VC had no effect whatsoever on hw sales, which wouldn't be a good sign.

I can only predict that it will be big after how the DS did there, but I haven't heard anything.

Not that the Famitsu numbers could be considered good.. just less horrible.

I wonder if they'll bring the Biohazard games eventually. :D

There are no new colors, LE or bundles planned right now.

But hey, to counter that SCEJ just announced 3 more MGS4 bundles, so thats 4 new PS3 SKUs planned, all for the same day.

The last I heard Nintendo had it shipped over 1M, which presumably makes it fastest selling console here(previous being PSP or maybe PS2). It's also been the most marketed piece of gaming hw ever in this country (we'll see if they treat Wii the same way) - and the first one with actual TV ads.

That said, I heard mentions that this generation of consoles has been doing noticeably better than last one (HD consoles especially).

It does seem like Sony have focussed much of their efforts on the West in a bid to gain ground on the 360, while forgetting about their home turf. Having said that, I suppose Sony didn't originally expect Wii to make such a killing everywhere. I should imagine Sony are just holding back now until MGS4, then will open the floodgates and let the games start rolling out more consistently.

my feeling is they're waiting for a ps3 slim to give them a psp like revival, then start releasing the big games to continue that momentum. probably starting this fall.
right now there isnt much they can do.

I don't think Sony expected that they HAD to have anything release from their internal studios to keep the library solvent. Remember, anything debuting from them now would likely have been conceptualized 18-24 months in the past, and I doubt Sony ever anticipated having to lean on their first party studios to this degree.

It does seem to be getting worrisome. Week after week, month after month of horribly low PS3 sales in Japan, and nothing has changed marketing-wise.

Impending price drop if MGS4 doesn't improve sales dramatically?
