So DQ10 retook 1st spot from Minecraft as the most bought eshop wii u game in japan recently. Do we have any ballpark estimates from those two?

EDIT:
In other news, Pokemon Yellow has broken into the 3DS all time eshop charts at number 19.

I was just throwing that out there because of the known quantities, I can't think of why it'd sell more. Is it due to the higher install base? Or is the game going to be of extremely higher quality than triple deluxe, with the battle mode, etc?

That's all I got. To go against several more reasons why I see it selling less.

One factor I can think is the release date. It will be released just one day before Golden Week, a good second week should be expected at least. After that, sales will slow down a bit, but in mid-July start the Summer Holidays for kids and sales should increase again.

On the other side, Triple Delux was released in mid-january, after the holidays, so it didn't have any boost for festivities at short term.

Of course, there're more factors. But I wanted to point out the release date.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Wonder what numbers the PS4 version will put up this time. I know Kiwami was a different case (late port) but I'm still expecting nothing spectacular.

If the gap between the Vita and PS4 versions are as big as AoT then things could start shifting toward the PS4 a little, though I doubt it'd outsell the Vita version since even the performance gap there didn't seem to make the PS4 version sell better.

DQ10 is free until the 31st, that's why it got such a huge boost. :p

And that's the gap for the hunting genre:

If the prediction for Yo-Kai Sangokushi comes true it's a guaranteed half million seller and it will outsell Pokemon Conquest easily.

Certainly seems possible, at least.

I'm curious to see whether Yo-kai Sangokushi will attract a slightly older audience, like Pokémon Conquest did.

For those interested, Pokémon Conquest sold 177 928 units at launch (344.127 units LTD) according to Famitsu. 500k definitely seems possible imo.

Also: opening movie (really neat!)

***

Edit: about Monster Hunter, Capcom announced the Monster Hunter Spring Festival. It's not like that big event in May last year (so no big announcement or anything), it's a competition where celebrities compete in challenges on Monster Hunter Spirits / X / Stories. First "episode" (it's pre-recorded) this Thursday.

Nothing about when the Anime will start?

Nothing about when the Anime will start?

Unfortunately, no. Looks like the anime wasn't shown at the AnimeJapan event after all (even though it was originally supposed to be there). Fuji TV are not even listed on the website anymore.

That explains why we didn't get any news regarding Monster Hunter Stories (anime or not). Not sure what that means, to be honest.

Pokemon Conquest was also a Saturday release so this will be an 1 to 1 comparison.

It came 2 weeks earlier that Yo-Kai {2012.03.17} and had small benefit from Golden Week.

I wonder if the PS4K is going to have a long term (and adverse) affect on sales over the coming months.

Digimon Linkz managed to debut in the Top 10 Grossing section of the iOS App Store.

If it has any kind of long term success (even just getting into the top 20 in events given how the retail games do), it will join Idolmaster, Fate, Puyo, and PowaPro as an IP that has way, way, way more success in mobile than console/handheld despite long time roots in dedicated devices.

I'm kind of curious if there's an age pattern to faded franchises where they hit the mobile gaming audience well even if they're not attracting anyone new on console. I think we'd need more examples to really try extrapolating though.

I don't see why it would.

Same reason people will wait on price cuts or rumors of one, it affects their purchase value and perception. Heck, there's enough reason to suspect that this may even herald in another price drop.

Word on this is spreading.

I do think this may actually be an apt point to notice, though. It could be older folk who have gone on to not have time for dedicated hardware but who find "familiar IP" on their phones and get into gaming that way with "their childhood".

http://gematsu.com/2016/03/star-ocean-5-producer-valkyrie-profile-3-proposal-pc

So the producer for Star Ocean 5 already has proposals for Valkyrie Profile 3 and Star Ocean 6 ready to be submitted. Apparently will be depend on how SO5 sells.

RIP in peace so6/vp3. West please save us

So if it's only at the "proposal" stage right now, even if it was greenlighted in a few months (following japanese and western releases) we shouldn't expect to see it before 2019 at the earliest.

Based on the first indicators for japanese sales it's not gonna be greenlighted

probably minimal, considering japan is price conscious and home consoles isn't a booming market i won't be surprised if Sony don't bother releasing the ps4k in japan or doing a late launch like the original ps4. releasing both psvr and ps4k in japanat around the same time would probably be unwise.

i can see a price cut of another 5000 yen for the ps4 coinciding with the launch of ffxv probably announced at their pre tgs conference

Some S-E mobile games updates:

- Grimms Notes finally achieved 10 million downloads (they wanted to reach this number two weeks ago though, lol). However, it seems people aren't caring much about it anymore. The game is now at #156 on the top grossing charts, and it's been out of the top 100 for quite some time. - http://www.jp.square-enix.com/company/ja/news/2016/html/1fa56510f16bb7a03c28dc1d8f1ae40a.html

- FF Brave Exvius surpassed 6 million downloads. It's most likely the "main" FF title on mobile now, bigger than Mobius and it's doing better than Recerd Keeper on events. - http://www.jp.square-enix.com/company/ja/news/2016/html/174aa97ba6738d7a552d371d459a514b.html

- Dragon Quest Monster Parade surpassed 4 million downloads. Far from being a hit like Hoshidora, but I guess some people are still interested on trying it (perhaps because of the recently released Joker 3?). - http://www.jp.square-enix.com/company/ja/news/2016/html/a6f668ff08bf9145600f1e79b411d0b6.html

About Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3, and its perceived lack of advertisement... Looks like Square-Enix is displaying commercial(s) for the game on big screens in 19 major JR Stations in Japan, until April 10th.

Maybe they're just trying a new kind of marketing strategy, the same way Falcom did with Tokyo Xanadu
half joking there

(not pics of the ad itself, but the screen it's displayed on). Doubt it's displayed non-stop there, but still significant enough they'd have a PR about it.

And they're doing it after the release and not before?
Maybe they realized that something was going wrong here lol

During these two days, Rakuten has received new shipments of both Wii U SKUs. But, then again were sold out in a moment. The SKUs topped the charts so I assume there were a good amount of reposition. No info for other stores inside the Ichiba, or other physical retailers so far, though.

I still can't believe even with all the stock problems Splatoon is able to have a consistent 10k per week. It's amazing, where is it now with digital anyway?

I hope by April this Wii U shortages is over, because, i mean, wow...

Wish it had been Splatoon. Of course it doesn't need it, I just like seeing its crazy sales. Glad there's a restock finally.

Splatoon bundle is death in Japan. It won't be shipped again... i don't get why in all others countries there are a lot of Splatoon bundle.

It actually says new shipment information of April is now available, though I still think we'll see some shipments nonetheless.

If you read the posts without knowing the numbers, you'd think the Wii U is a big success. It will have been 2+ months of shortages. Incredible.

Rakuten Weekly Comment

- PlayStation 4, is again the best selling week, and this time by far. PlayStation Vita sold better than last week, and it seems Dragon Quest Monsters didn't move too many Nintendo 3DS units. Wii U is disappeared again. Little restock that is counted for the next week figures.

- Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 is the best selling game of the week, however it seems the positions given by Rakuten, point that there were not so much difference in sales comparing it to Dark Souls 3. It possibly only may affect this online site, though.

- For next week, Yo-Kai Romance of the Three Kingdoms seems to have the crown. The game has been the most pre-ordered game some weeks in a row since launch, so it is expected a good start. Splatoon amiibo are selling quite well, and it seems Splatoon merchandising is doing well in other categories.

How long till a new round of Wii U shortages?

I think since this month (I'm refering to April) we should see a better situation. What I could feel from some blog comments and even Twitter is that there is a real thirst for the console. Nintendo is getting some good attention to this hardware. It's quite, how to say it, "wished".

After this controversy for Star Ocean 5, I don't think the game will sell more than 200k in Japan.

I am half serious

It performed far worse than the X360 version of SO4 at comg so far and before this nonsense, something as ridiculously minor as this wouldn´t have had an affect anyway.

like hiska-kun pointed out the game already launched, usually you do big campaigns pre-launch for games that have the sales potential that DQMonster games usually have had.

The blog is leaking again with very difficult puzzles.
The sake bottle represents Wii U hardware. Out of stock and 1800 (or 3600?) units sold.
Or maybe is talking about DQ, 360k. 1800 x 20.

300k for Dark Souls. It represents Sangokushi (x3) and 100.000 arrows, so 300k could be.
Or maybe is talking about the three versions for Nobunaga's Ambition, selling 100k counting all SKUs.

300k fw would be a nice result for Dark Souls 3, third highest PS4 game first week sales (assuming the vast vast majority of the game's sales will be PS4 over XB1 which they will be)
