Totally unrelated to current discussions but after playing the game I think Koei Tecmo has set a pretty high bar for Intelligent Systems in regards to production values. Those character models are freakin amazing.
With the money they make from heroes, intelligent systems should deliver.

Ah sorry, it wasn’t Horii,it was SE themselves. 3DS version started development later confirmed, although Horii did reconfirm that too. This isn’t speculation by any means but as I said we’ve already been over this.

I think i will go with Horii's word for this and not SE. Also, do you have an accurate translation for that scan? Seems like the site you posted has done a loose translation and the meaning could be altered (first->exclusive).

As for skipping Wii U, I don’t doubt for a second the thinking was getting a royalty discount on PS exclusivity was seen as more potentially lucrative than whatever a Wii U port might sell. But that was the point, these big spinoffs went PS exclusive and later on that swung back to multiplatform.

Nah, WiiU wasn't a viable option, that's all.

I think Nirolak speculated the same but I wouldn't be surprised if Fire Emblem Switch runs on Unreal Engine 4.

I would be surprised. IS is really good with engines and like using custom stuff.
That said, I'm sure we'll see more Nintendo games developed by other companies using UE4, just like Yoshi.

I think they'll match it. Their 3D animation work as of Echoes is strong enough that I'm confident that whatever models they make are at the least going to animate beautifully.

Plus they have a distinct vision for how their models would look in 3D going by the CGI cutscenes since Radiant Dawn which is a major issue with anime 2D transitioning to 3D. FE Warriors draws quite a bit on Awakening's CGI presentation which is part of why the models look so good.

It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo throws more of its weight around this generation with respect to third party strategy. Their market cap now surpasses Sony. Net incomes are roughly similar, with Nintendo perhaps pulling ahead if you compare gaming divisions. They also have new leadership and a new philosophy backing a hot new system, popular among all demographics. Nintendo can challenge Sony toe-to-toe like never before in both resources and willingness.

Do you mean paying for exclusives?

Switch - 170k (Splatoon 2 launch week had Switch at 99k and Splatoon is more popular but supply has been increased and it's the last BIG Nintendo game of the year)

SMO - 400k

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
First Inazuma Eleven DS trailer from 9 years ago

I kinda miss the old Level 5 that would wait until the product was ready before they announce them - tough to get excited for the way they approach their announcements nowadays.

Ninokuni 2 looks good, thats at least something to look forward to but everything else....no idea what Hino is smoking right now.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I've always figured Fire Emblem Switch has to look better than Tokyo Mirage Sessions and FE Musou. There's no reason smaller spin-offs should be prettier than the mainline games on the same system after all.
They also don't have to worry about making it a action game, they can make it as extravagant as they want at 30 assumingly

Yeah they are pretty. I don't however like the 2D models, I much perfer the 3DS ones.

But I think Fire Emblem Switch will surpass FEW, I mean it kinda has too, first console Fire Emblem game in years.
Haha we wouldnt be saying this if FE was no bigger than it was when path of radiance and radiant dawn came out, then we wouldn't be looking st anything no better than persona 5 or SMT

That said, I'm sure we'll see more Nintendo games developed by other companies using UE4, just like Yoshi.

Main reason why people have speculated that about FE is that there's no existing HD FE engine to bring to Switch.

But then, Good-Feel could presumably have ported over their Wii U engine but switched to UE4 instead, so who knows.

I think only smaller studios within Nintendo will use third-party engines such as UE4. Nintendo don't want to enslave themselves to Tencent or any other company.

Developing an engine is expensive, probably depends on the size of the project and the projected sales. Bigger projects in series that may get more than one entry on the console will probably use their own engine, but smaller stuff like Yoshi it might just be easier to license a dependable 3rd party engine like Unreal 4

I wonder how flexible the Chemistry Engine is...

UE4 isnt a common choice for games that sell over 5 million copies because that 5% becomes such a huge number. We’ve seen publishers force their devs to use bad engines because they dont want to pay that license fee.

Bioware was forced to use frostbite even though it didnt even support third person cameras lol.

Nintendo licensing Unreal Engine actually means Epic has an obligation to continually support it on Nintendo systems. It also means going forward Epic will make sure their next engine supports Nintendo systems too.

UE3 was technically supported on Wii U but it was literally just ported over and then never revised.

Good-Feel is a really small company that never really bothered with engines, unlike IS.
Hence why this comparison doesn't really make sense to me. IS will build an engine (or modify an existing one for that purpose).

UE4 offers flat licensing for big developers.

EA actually has a dedicated 200+ person team on Frostbite plus hundreds of addition per game engineers on it. Making your own high end engine is actually more expensive. The reason places like EA do it is because they think it gives them a competitive advantage, not because it saves money.

Or, put another way, EA is likely running $10-$15+ million a game in engine costs on Frostbite versus $3-$5 million for a flat UE4 license, but they do it because they want graphics like Battlefront 2.

We actually see EA signing a bunch of UE4 licenses for their partners for games like Respawn Star Wars, A Way Out, and that sea faring indie game.

Mass Effect ended up using it because there ultimate idea was to land at graphics like Anthem even though there would be pain along the way.

WiiU was their alternative viable option for Japan back then, because Wii was on it's last days and PC alone wouldn't cut it for Japan, so that's the reason for the ongoing support. Since SE has direct access on the number of people playing it, i am pretty sure they would knew if it was worth to make Builders and Heroes for WiiU.

Regarding DQXI, yes, we have been over this before but you still continue saying the same thing. Horii never said that DQXI was PS4 exclusive or started as a PS4 exclusive. Only thing he said was that before starting developing the game, they knew people wanted to play a mainline DQ game on their TVs again, so the decision for the next one to be for home console was there from the start along the portable version they always had in mind because obviously japanese players prefer playing on portable these days. This is totally different from saying that the game was PS4 exclusive and i really know why you keep insisting. The fact that you try to pass your own speculation as a fact or official news only to prove your point makes no sense at all. From the first interview Horii gave about the game in Jump

I think it's clear enough. Now, can you give this a rest?

Nope, not even remotely true. Horii wanted to make a TV game, market be damn.

Are we really expecting GAF to go away? Even if EvilOre were to step back, the forum is quite an impressive commodity, so I expect it to stay personally.

You never know what might happen, and I'd hate to lose PAL/MC/NPD SalesAge over events well beyond any of our control.

For now, I don't think Gaf will go away, but the forum is privately owned by Evilore, so he has all power to flush it all down the drain, if he wants.

Well, if GAF does die: good-bye all. I've liked it here in my short while and it was nice to actually talk about games and stuff with people.

So many good memories of lurking these Media Create threads back in the GBA/Wii/DS days...
Vinnk's Village, Famitsu / Media Create battles, etc.

I know I never post here, but, if it does go away, I'll miss it :(

As has been pointed out to you before, Horii has also said it was a PS4 exclusive initially before they decided to do a 3DS version during development.

Also is there any reason you question the pamphlet translation? It seems to support Horii’s words here. Or are both translations off now?

Nah, WiiU wasn't a viable option, that's all.
Wii U still had well over 100k people buying each DQX update. Dragon Quest was doing okay on it, I have to disagree here as there’d have definitely been an audience for spinoffs on it too. Perhaps not enough to lose whatever incentives Sony was throwing Square Enix’s way though.

And I just got my account approved after months wanting to discuss sales without toxic people and lurking the MC threads. ):

edit: if you people make a discord, would you mind sending me an invite?

Well just in case. We made a channel in Fire Emblem GAF for Sales. I figure if GAF implodes, we can rebuild from there. Hidden behind quote I think.

Quote to see email link.

I imagine it would also be useful for all of their main studios to have experience with 1 engine so they could help each other out.

It's good while it lasts. I very much enjoyed the pro-Nintendo environment here. Now I think I will go back to my Chinese game forums with huge Sony bias.
