Well it could be Unity-based as Nirolak speculated in which case it might as well be.
Alternatively you'll get to see what a 3DS God Eater would have looked like.

Meh, well you can just throw it in the increasingly large pile of shitty-performance Vita games if that's the case. Toukiden 2 needs company.

Nioh sales seem decent, nothing mindblowing but at least it's not bombing. Reports of sell outs bode well for decent legs too. TK finally has a non underperforming title in like forever. (Musou Stars is going to bomb so hard)

I hope Nioh keeps selling. It's a special game.

So much for RE7's legs. Will it even reach 500k?

Nope.

I think Nioh 2 is a lock for their next game. Can't see them going back to Ninja Gaiden after the warm reception from critics+consumers and decent sales it seems. Especially if Dark Souls truly is going for a hiatus there is a market to be grabbed. Perhaps they will go multiplat?

Accurate
They're not Japanese centric but they sell a non-negligible amount in Japan, and it's significantly more than Nioh has sold so far.

We have to wait to nioh 2 or 3 to compare properly in this case. Nioh is selling like Demon Souls (in a worse market as we can see) so I don't understand why a new Ip needs to sell like a proven/famous IP in its last installment. And Nioh is very different to Demon/DarkSouls/Bloodborne.

But my comment was about the "setting" and the western thing when Nioh is basically "accurate" of what they could be. A story about a westerner in Japan as I understand this is the complain here. To have a main character that it is not japanese.

Instead TK now underperformed as a publisher.

I wouldn't expect Nioh 2 or 3 to sell to those levels anyway. It's rare for a new franchise to match the genre king.

Ignoring ~400k potential Japanese Souls players is not wise at all.

Well, let's break this down a bit.

When the Souls series was at 8 million (Dark Souls 1 and 2), it was over 7 million copies abroad, and 940K in Japan. Of those, ~2.2 million were on PC. We see 11.75% of sales as Japanese and 27.5% as PC.

Recently, the Dark Souls series topped 13 million (Dark Souls 1, 2, and the 3 million launch shipment of Dark Souls 3). Looking now, the total Japanese sales are 1.3 million. The total PC sales, while limiting Dark Souls 3 to its 1 million PC copies in the first month, puts us at 5.97 million PC copies. We see 10% of sales as Japanese, and 46% as PC.

Now, 10% of sales is probably something you want, since it's still money, and domestic money can be more stable without currency fluctuations. Dark Souls 3 has moved 400K in Japan physically, and Nioh's high end LTD estimate from duckroll is about half that as a new IP. That's certainly lower than Dark Souls, but for a weak publisher in a downward spiral, that seems like a pretty good catch rate. Were I to be critical of strategic sales mistakes though, I think I'd arrive at "Didn't sufficiently target Japan in a sub-genre that does 90% of its sales volume overseas" way after a certain other stickler point to the extent I'm not sure if this is actually a relevant concern for Koei Tecmo at this stage. Now, if it's actually doing badly overseas relative to its Japanese performance, that'd be quite problematic and suggest that maybe they would have been more competitive and/or profitable focusing domestically, but I don't think that's clear yet.

The Sony deal had better have been lucrative for KT's sake. I'm sure it helped the critical reception at least.

Cool to see Momotaro Dentetsu hanging in there.

I really wonder what kind of people are even buying a Wii U right now.

It would probably be a fine choice if your kid just became of age to get a video game console and you want to get them something.

I mean the two primarily sellers there are Minecraft and Splatoon.

Some of your PC numbers are inaccurate. On average, Dark Souls sells the equivelant of 35-40% of PC worldwide sales in a single territory where the game is self-published.

Once you include Asia, both Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 sold between 500k-1m. Neither the Japanese sales or Asian sales are negligible.

Where are you coming up with the inaccuracy?

Dark Souls 1: 2,876,347 ± 49,219
Dark Souls 2 Regular: 1,086,842 ± 30,327
Dark Souls 2 SotFS: 1,014,933 ± 29,310
Dark Souls 3: 1 million in the first month, now at 1,427,298 ± 34,739

Also you're including Asia here, which I'm not sure why you feel this is a bad fit for that market? Asia buys Western games frequently, and it's not like all Asian people are interchangeable, so I don't think William being the protagonist instead of a Japanese person is going to be a big sticking point here.

I mean the two primarily sellers there are Minecraft and Splatoon.

I suppose, although Minecraft is on basically everything that can run it at this point. Just seems a bit odd since it's a system with a clear expiration date, and it's not even relatively cheap. But I guess that's why it's a pretty small number thinking that way- although still larger than Xbone.

Where are you coming up with the inaccuracy?

Dark Souls 1: 2,876,347 ± 49,219
Dark Souls 2 Regular: 1,086,842 ± 30,327
Dark Souls 2 SotFS: 1,014,933 ± 29,310
Dark Souls 3: 1 million in the first month, now at 1,427,298 ± 34,739

Also you're including Asia here, which I'm not sure why you feel this is a bad fit for that market? Asia buys Western games frequently, so I don't think William being the protagonist is going to be a big sticking point here.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. SotfS was offered as an upgrade to DS2, that's why it screwed with the percentages. Dark Souls 2 sold 1 million on PC, 350k in Japan. For DS3 it's 1.3 million on PC, 400k in Japan. So the equivelant of 35% of PC sales.

It wouldn't even surprise me if the Japanese sales are higher than WW XB1 sales, since the games didn't sell much on MS's two main territories.

My point was that Dark Souls sells well relative to the size of the franchise, it doesn't dominate in a single territory, and Japan happens to be its second largest territory after NA.

That's pretty good for Neptunia. Watch it drop like a rock next week though.

Good for Nioh, PS4 dropping that much after releasing new games isn't good.
