Looks interesting but it's difficult to see how this will work in practice.
Consoles struggle rendering the TV screen area at HD resolutions at 30/60hz.
Having to also cope with rendering the 'out of screen' area will require too much horsepower and extra RAM not to mention re-tooling existing engines for the new field of view.
It will make it impractical for all but the simplest games unless the 'out of screen' area is really low fidelity.
Like the 3D on the 3DS it seems like a gimmick that will get old quickly.
If it ends up being a compulsory feature of all titles it will be something else to inflate development budgets even closer to breaking point.
