No denial = always online DRM is still in. The hate train is still rollin'.
Microsoft...PLEASE institute a "no twitter" policy for your employees. PLEASEEEE
Not only will this stop incidents like this from happening, it will also take Major Nelson and Arthur off twitter.
If this guy actually got fired over this, I'll refuse to buy durango purely on those grounds... always online or not.
Microsoft can go fuck themselves if they fired a guy for expressing his opinion.
The sad thing is: He is right. Everything is always online and everybody is fine with it.

Why would they apologise for an upcoming feature of their console? So it kind of sounds like they didn't apologize for what the guy said, just how he said it?
I'm not sure why this is difficult to grasp (well, I have my suspicions). I can download Game of Thrones on to my iPad and watch it in my car. Or, I can take it with me to my parent's, who only use 3G for internet access, and watch it there on their nice TV. No internet checkups necessary. This is bullshit. My PC doesn't have to be always online, my iPad doesn't have to be always online, my android phone doesn't have to be always online, the Ps4 won't have to be always online, the Wii U doesn't have to be always online, my Laptop doesn't have to be always online, shit I don't have anything or know of any physical product that has be always online, so no.
No no no NO.
Or, he could stay he fuck off twitter and not potentially ruin the companies PR strategy for their next console. Not to mention representing the company you work for by being a complete asshole. If he actually did get fired from this, he's going to have a hell of a time finding new work.

I wonder if this fool has stopped his crusade now? And my iPhone hasn't had online outside of wifi for months, and everything still works a treat.
I don't see the twitter comment as inappropriate. It is twitter, not a place for the thin-skinned or for expecting well-thought dialog. The problem is the 720's always on "feature".
Umm... having Wi-Fi means you are on-line I am pretty sure of that.
.
Absolutely - even though it's hard to say sorry for something you haven't done yet, this still feels like they're apologising for the wrong thing.
I feel kind of bad for the guy, but honestly, how could he not have seen this coming? If you're even remotely some sort of public figure, Twitter isn't for joking around with your buddies anymore.
Telling consumers to deal with it IS inappropriate.
A big mistake in my opinion. They seem to have completely misread the situation by focusing on the comments about not living in the city and not what people are actually outraged/angry about.
Now just confirm that the system won't be required to be online and we're good Microsoft.
Doesn't this apology kinda confirm it does?otherwise they wouldn't have issued an official apology?
He wasn't telling consumers to deal with it, he was joking with his friend. Microsoft's apology seems to be scapegoating Orth while avoiding to address the actual issue.
Yup. No denial plus that big HOWEVER.To me, this is them saying "sorry he was a dick," not "sorry he made shit up."
Thing is if they were to address the comments about required Online, they would have to acknowledge the existence of the nextbox before their official reveal. Something MS has yet to do. Just saying.

I know a lot of people have said this, but there are ways to dismiss a claim without directly acknowledging a new console/product.
Always online - We have never mandated this as a requirement, nor do we intend to moving forward.
We wouldn't seek to limit our consumer base by implementing any features that might result in consumers being unable to take advantage of our products.
There are plenty more, but it is entirely possible to dismiss a claim in the situation MS find themselves. Their PR company would have told them this and come up with a great many ways to dismiss the claims and defuse the story, the fact that they didn't is very telling.
MS really need to announce and just let the shit storm happen.
Its like every leak is tugging at a bandage slowly pulling out arm hair. They need to just stop pussy footing around and yank it off in one big go.
Plus I really want to see what they got. Everything about the next xbox sounds just a horrible disaster unless they have some crazy deals going on for huge exclusive 3rd party support which is the current theory. I wonder what they got that can make "always online" worth it.
They could have something big that we dont know about or it could be another case of MS being out of touch and not knowing how people use there devices anymore (Windows 8)
MS knows how to treat their customers right. Look at this sweet birthday gift they just sent me:
A quarter! Thanks Gammy.
The fact that they had to officially come out to say this shows they are listening to the negative feedback from the always online rumours. If they turn around and announce that the Nextbox is always online I'll be very surprised.

No no no NO.
I guess it depends on if they saw this fiasco as people getting upset over the always-online rumor or just over this guy's antics. The fact that they had to officially come out to say this shows they are listening to the negative feedback from the always online rumours. If they turn around and announce that the Nextbox is always online I'll be very surprised.
We don't care about that. Tell us what we want to hear, MS. Tell us there is no "always online".
So is Microsoft really just going to sweep this under the rug till they unveil the console?
I don't give a shit what the asshole said really, the implications of an always online console is all I care about.
Notice that Microsoft still refuses to comment on the substance of the tweets. Can't help but wonder if they are seriously rethinking this "always online" nonsense.

"This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers.
publishers want it that's why.
ms is more anticonsumer thats why it will implement it,sony will let it fall to the publishers to decide if they want to make their game always-online.
They can simply spew the standard "Sorry, we don't comment on rumors and speculation" line that has stood the test of time.
