Microsoft said:After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again.
MS defense force is in full swing today. Lol
Deviated severs alone will make gold a better value than plus.
Question: Is the 24 hour online check still in place for digital games? Based on the wording of MS's statement, that certainly seems to be the case.
at least things are back to normal around here. the MS haters really always hated MS anyway regardless of their policies/ But now people who actually ARE interested in One with this reversal can talk about it again and be interested like normal
Microsoft may have just backtracked on its derided policy that had restricted game sharing in its Xbox One console that goes on sale later this year -- but don't count on the company to revisit other unpopular features of the upcoming console.
In an interview with CNET, Marc Whitten, the chief product officer for Xbox, said the company has "no plans" to lower the $499 price tag for the console, even though Sony's rival PlayStation 4 will debut at $399. He echoed previous statements from the company that the Xbox One will offer features not found elsewhere, such as its Kinect motion-sensing, voice-detecting controller.
"We are really, really excited about the value we're going to deliver on day one," Whitten said.
What's more, Microsoft has no plans to change its decision for the Kinect to be on by default, something some users worry might be creepy. Microsoft tried to diffuse some of those privacy concerns earlier this month, telling gamers that the system is "only listening for the single voice command -- 'Xbox On.'" But gamers can turn that feature off if they choose.

What would the point of that be? If you can't give your digital games away, there wouldn't be a reason to do that, and if you could, you'd have to be online to do so, so your license could be revoked accordingly.
To Late MS , you still have the Kinetic cancer , high price and less powerfull console.
The incentive is not losing more people, especially people who haven't even heard about what's going on yet.
And some of my boycotts are definitely of the "You fucked up and you're never getting my money again no matter what you do. Just wanted to let you know." variety. Papa John's is one of those.
Because as many speculated, it wasn't for the "right" reason and more to do with the pre-order numbersI don't understand this. They gave people what they wanted, right? Why shouldn't they be praised for their change of heart?

My hope is they toss Kinect to a stand-alone add on as it is now, or at least offer a Kinectless bundle, for $399. Then they'd really be cooking. I don't see it happening, but they seem to have been caught off-guard by the PS4 price, so who knows. Not surprising news, but: http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57590170-75/microsoft-has-no-plans-to-revisit-xbox-ones-$499-price/
Of course who knows what they're going to do anymore.

Higher price with weaker and harder to use hardware which will no doubt translate into worse looking third party games, great combination. I don't know how they can make this thing a sales success without releasing a Kinect free SKU for $399 or less. Not surprising news, but: http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57590170-75/microsoft-has-no-plans-to-revisit-xbox-ones-$499-price/

PS4 and XB1 both being region free is so, so good. I'm honestly surprised both are supporting that.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

That like somebody braking into your house in the middle of the night and then apologizing only after you catch them in the act and threaten to beat their ass.
Fucker shouldn't get credit for the apology. He shouldn't have been their in the first place!

Should be taken with a pinch of salt, how long till they try this stunt again?
Already had two reserved. Now the unwashed masses can appreciate what the best and brightest at MS have to offer gamers.

So are there game installs to hard drive or not? If so, then what stops me from trading this disc in after I install it to my hard drive? Is it going to do a disc check every time you launch the game? They were not clear in their wording, so I will hold my judgment until they clarify or until after launch. The fact that they can't confirm they wont change their policy after people buy the console is enough to keep me away. Sony has already come out and said they won't be changing it.
I still don't see why he would say "one time setup" if it had nothing to do with internet.... considering they always had a one time setup for every game in existence for a couple generations.
This is what I'd like to see, simply because I have no interest in Kinect. When they stop trying to sell me hardware I do not want, they will be more likely to have me as a customer. My hope is they toss Kinect to a stand-alone add on as it is now, or at least offer a Kinectless bundle, for $399. Digital games aren't really an option if you never go online. So I think that is all that means.
It confirms slightly further down the message they can be played offline:
All games install to the hard drive. A disc is required to play them.
The initial setup requires an online connection.
I don't understand this. They gave people what they wanted, right? Why shouldn't they be praised for their change of heart?
Who gives a shit? We got what we want.
So? It should be about the games anyway. If a system has the games you want to play then you should buy it.
