Neo Galactic Adventure Force (Elite-GAF) Thread

With the Recent release of ED 1.3 Frontier Developments have added support for player factions which will span across the Elite Dangerous universe which is currently Mac, PC and Xbox One.

So without further ado this is the topic for the NeoGAF Elite gaming group/minor faction!

All things relating to the group can be discussed here. For general discussion of the game, see the Elite: Dangerous |OT|.

So, looks like the current consensus is the below.

Name of group: Neo Galactic Adventure Force
Name of minor faction: Neo Galactic Adventure Force
Type: (e.g Democracy, Criminal etc) Democracy

Description: In 3290, Apam Napat's ruling government founded the Galactic Adventure Force. It was conceived as a pilot association, aiming at recruiting and training young pilots, giving them a place among a community of like-minded adventurers and eventually guiding them on their way to the stars. What started out as a government bound association grew into an independent organization however. In 3296 the Galactic Adventure Force's leaders decided that it had distanced itself too far from the government, took up the name Neo Galactic Adventure Force and declared its independence.

After its separation, the NeoGAF's agenda remained the same. Young pilots from Apam Napat may choose to join the association, where they will be provided with council and training and will find a place among its community. The more advanced pilots of the association find support for their own undertakings in its ranks and take care of the newer members. Its members common spirit is that of being space pilots, who undertake various adventures. Members freely chose to specialise in their own career paths according to their liking. The pilots of the NeoGAF have been known to be a discussion-happy people and regularly exchange opinions on galactic discussion forums on various space flight related and unrelated topics.

Although not originally intended as a political faction, over time, the Galactic Adventure Force gained control over various stations and systems. For the purpose of administration, it adopted a democratic government structure, which suited their member's fondness of discussions..

CMDR Anton Sugar reporting in. Great job, frontieruk and Burny!

The screen of Apam Napat sold me on it, but I know nothing about the surrounding systems:

Count me in, CMDR Mengy! I'm planning on flying over to Apam Napat to check the system out this week, maybe even tonight.

CMDR Qasiel reporting in!

Been off E:D for a few weeks as I'm getting a new machine built (been playing it on a below-par laptop since launch) but as soon as it's with me I'll be joining you all in the stars.

Great, we can discuss without cluttering the OT now. :)

In order to apply we need to decide:

- They system
- A group concept

It would be great if we could apply before the end of the week. I'll trust on the other's judgement of Apam Napat as a system, as I can't guarantee I'll find the time to fly there myself this week. :/

I'll just paste my thoughts for a possible concept here:

I believe we'd be best off if we keep the group concept open to all types of professions/activities in the game. We cannot hope to find something that everyone will want to concentrate on.

Therefore my suggestion for in-lore background is a formal pilot's association. Something like a student league, based on an in-lore location/home system, representing GAF as an entry point. E.g. young/inexperienced pilots from that system may join the association to find likeminded people, who take them in and support them during their education and career. Whichever profession the pilots later chose is up to them, but as part of the association, they obligate themselves to support the following generations of member pilots and will offer support for other members in their ventures. Whichever those may be. I have community goals etc. in mind.

Yes, a Mobius type group but we can create our own lore, submit GalNET reports based on that lore for broadcast in system, if we have a big enough effect that report could go galactic. Also we can submit ideas for community goals based around our lore which will be for the galaxy.

I flew through quickly, a nice selection of ringed worlds, 2 platform stations and a high tech coriolis station.

Lore wise that's a sound idea, as it allows us to arrange Race events / CQC leagues either in system or via CQC.

Does it have hazardous resource extraction sites? I bet not all systems with resource extraction sites will have them.

Can't say I noticed, I was out there looking at the pretty... but there was a couple of low res sites, I can check in a couple of hours unless there's anyone in 130lys or it, it takes about 10 mins to cover that at fastest route.

Its good to have our own thread now.

Personally I like the Apam Napat system as well.

One more thing we need to decide on is the type of government. I assume democracy would be fine.

I popped over to Apam Napat on my Xbone as I was in the area anyway, and as the Universe is shared I assume the same sites are at the same places, well in a quick scan of the Contacts window we have at least 2 high res extraction sites I assume those are the hazardous ones right?

I would prefer open as well, feel like it adds a lot to the game. (although solo when entering civilized space after a long trek is nice).

So is this effectively the new E:D |OT|? Just wondering if it will canibilize the original one.

Anyway I'm cross-posting this from it:

Tried out the 1.4 Beta today, here's my thoughts on it.

First of all, a VOD of it should show up on my YouTube channel momentarily, so you can watch all this stuff if you would like: https://gaming.youtube.com/hyliansevendota

The first ship I tried was the Imperial Eagle, it is very very very fast, I was breaking 400 easily in it, and I had outfitted it quite a bit. It's definitely a more effective version of the Eagle, and I think probably falls at a middle ground between the starter Sidewinder and the Viper or Cobra. It's speed is definitely it's biggest asset, not to mention the thing looks damn nice! The Empire really knows how to design ships. One of it's major weaknesses I noticed though was it's little heat tolerance. One Plasma Accelerator shot was giving me a "Heat Levels Critical" warning, and things got a big hairy sometimes when I got slightly too close to a star. Overall I like the ship, but of course it's at a much more entry-level price.

Next I tried the Federal Assault Ship. This one, I would say was like the superior, better-looking brother of the Federal Dropship. It has two huge hardpoints, one located on the top and the other on the bottom. I put cannons on both of the m, and it was very nice the damage I was putting out from those. It also has two medium hardpoints located under the ship, so I put Beam Lasers there. It was kind of weird realizing I had to put my nose slightly above my target so the gimbals would lock on my enemies, but I got used to it. The shields on it are no joke, and the power plant is great on it too. I was able to put quite a bit into it and I was 0.18 under power capacity WHEN DEPLOYED on the best Power Plant available on the ship. Not a fighter class ship obviously, and does have a similar weakness of the Anaconda or Dropship, being that it's not as manuverable as the lighter, fighter ships such as Vultures. It also doesn't have hardpoints in more places to put turrets, like the Anaconda. Overall another good ship though, definitely more on the "battlehship" side than a fighter. A lot of fun to fly.

The other ship was the Federal Gunship, but unfortunately, even with everything costing 10% or normal price, I was still about a mil short to buy a Federal Gunship and didn't feel like taking the time to grind out the mil in beta, plus whatever I would need for outfitting. I might give this a try another time, but I didn't feel like it at the moment.

I also gave CQC a try. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't particularly care for the "Call of Duty" style progression in it, especially that if I understand it correctly you don't get much of a choice in your loadout. You also start out with gimballed Beam Lasers on an F63 Condor. Now the Condor isn't a bad ship for this per se, but I really think they missed an opportunity and should have had fixed weapons instead of gimballed. The Gimballed weapons feel kind of "cheap" here as it's just kind of "aim in the general vicinity of your opponent and hit them". Don't get me wrong, I know gimballed weapons exist in the main game, but this is ALL ABOUT combat and dogfighting, I think the added skill required to use fixed weapons (and the damage output), should make them the standard here. I looked at the unlockable ships, and you can only really unlock the fighter ships, which makes sense, but I found it really strange that the Vulture is missing, even as the last ship you unlock. I feel like the Vulture would fit right into this mode.

There were three modes, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag. They were all definitely fun to play, I particularly liked Capture the Flag. You fly through a capture point to get the flag and when you carry it, you leave a long trail behind you, making it easier for enemy players to find you and take you out. Of course when I flew through a capture point, my game crashed. I gave a detailed bug report to Frontier though.

I found it kind of strange that when you load into a match, there is no countdown or anything, it's just "Okay here you are go!" Felt kind of jarring and out of place to me, I hope some kind of countdown gets added later on. The maps themselves were cool, they weren't kidding about the CQC stuff, and you can fly in narrow spaces inside buildings, things of that nature. There was a stage that had tons of icy asteroids in the area that made for really nice manuvering.

CQC is fun, definitely a nice break from the main game of Elite, especially if you are a trader or explorer and want to take a break from that just for some combat that doesn't involve you throwing out chaff and trying to jump out of there.

No, this is a more targeted thread for people wanting a bit more interaction from the game, as in we can create our own story arch and play it out, having the discussion here doesn't shit up the OT with us discussing imaginary leaders etx .

Yeah, Open! Although I've been playing almost exclusively in Solo so far, but I was also playing alone. The beauty of it is, that anybody can change the mode at will, meaning explorers, who'd rather hand in their data unharassed, can still do so.

What about the group's description? Would anybody like to come up with a piece of fluff-text? As far as I can see, that is the only piece really missing to apply as a minor faction.

As for political system, I'll have to check back if that is required, but democracy sounds ok. Depending on the background we're going for - e.g. a pilot's association - the faction would not really be a political party.

I'll will draw up a google sheet, to keep track of members/CMDR names. It'll be easier than editing the OT all the time.

I personally liked your description.

Yeah, it looks beautiful. Apam Napat was my home system for a while until Powerplay started, then I had to go to Lavigny-Duval systems to get the extra bounty money. Hopefully we can spread Lavigny-Duval to Apam Napat, I think Patraeus controls it right now.

I did not play the game for a long time, but summer is over and I will have much more play time soon, especially after Horizon launch. Add me please!
Apam Napat is a great choice for home system, btw.

Hey Everyone,

If there are no objections I was thinking of going with Burny's description for the clan since we didn't have any other suggestions. I'll give it a couple of more days so if you would like to discuss any changes or have any suggestions for the description speak your mind now.

I feel like if we wait any longer we wont be able to get the system we want (assuming its not taken yet)

Done.

So are we going to brave Open or have a Mobius style private group, the submission process asks this question.

I played in open exclusively until recently after I had an encounter with a hacker, been in Mobius ever since. But I'm fine with whatever we pick. Open has it's benefits, and the dangers can be "fun" too as long as you don't mind losing some credits now and then to random shit.

Eh, I kind of vote for open too.

Yeah, I think hackers are the only thing I'm concerned about, but I'd really be down for either. I haven't spent a whole lot of time in Open, so this would encourage me to!

I'll join. I only play a couple hours a week these days (less with MGSV now) for a little PvP but I expect to completely jump in once Horizon launches.

I think we should finally send in our application this week, if Reckheim hasn't already done so anyway.

Quick reminder:

Establish your own Minor Faction and FAQ

I'm a bit unsure about the allegiance. I'm fine with either of the major factions, but I'd still like to be able to get Sol permit eventually - or even Federal exclusive ships. But it doesn't seem that anything would be preventing me from doing so, if we declared our allegiance to be to the Empire.

Quick questions for the backround story stuff:

Does anybody know when Gaming Age was founded/went originally online?

And: Could anybody provide me with info about the factions currently present in Apam Napat? I went there yesterday on the Beta server, but was blown up in my T6 by an NPC in a Vulture after already having sustained rather a lot of heat damage due to a borked system jump on the way there. So I didn't get to look around a lot. >.<

Apam Napat Assembly (I could be wrong about this one)

Thanks. Any chance you have info on what kind of governments forms they have? Maybe that could be incorporated into the GalAdForce's description,as far as I could type it down in my lunch break:

Neo Galactic Adventure Force

In 3290, Apam Napat's ruling government founded the Galactic Adventure Force. It was conceived as a pilot association, aiming at recruiting and training young pilots, giving them a place among a community of like minded adventurers and eventually guiding them on their way to the stars. What was started out as a government bound association grew into an independend organization however. In 3296 the Galactic Adventure Force's leaders decided that it had distanced itself too far from the government, took up the name Neo Galactic Adventure Force and declared its independence.

After its separation, the NeoGAF's agenda remained the same. Young pilots from Apam Napat may chose to join the association, where they will be provided with council and training and will find a place among its community.

For the purpose of adminstration, it adopeted a democratic government structure, which suited their member's fondness of discussions.

I was asking for the founding date of Gaming Age because of the dates. I would like to reference the time from GA's inception to NeoGAF's separation.
