I'm not sure the golf analogy will entice newcombers, but I'm glad people are starting to talk about this. The "reset if you lose your first credit" advise is a massive overreaction to journo criticism of arcade games and comes with problem of its owns. There's nothing fun or useful about replaying the easy stuff over and over to get to the actual challenging part.
Yes. I know the exact critical backlash you are taking about, even had a bit about it in my original post but cut it as it is wordy enough. I agree I don't know if this is the exact metaphor that will help people, though I personally have used basically this sort of idea when progress had felt slow and it does help.
Likewise beating metal slug on say 2 credits is still a hell of an accomplishment. I understand the threshold that a single credit represents but it is kind of funny that a style of play that applauds every major and minor score improvement also has this all or nothing mentality when it comes to survival.
Arcade Archives is just faithfully replicating the DIPS settings available for ASO II. That game allows you to specify a precis number of continues, most later neo geo games don't or just offer a binary continue/no continue switch
NAM-1975 let's you also pick how many continues you want.
Guess I need to familiarize myself more with some of the MVS settings. I typically leave stuff default, so this is real good to know. Thanks
