Can I give presents from an american wii to a japanese one?

I'm sending you dkc2, because you're clearly senile.

I have it on my Wii. That's how I first played it. I didn't like DKC1 enough back in the day to go for DKC2, particularly when I only had enough cash on hand for either it or Yoshi's Island.

Looks good, gameplay definitely seems to be staying true to the serious. That said, I'm not really digging the level settings...maybe they're just showing stuff from early game but pretty much all my favorite settings from the original trilogy seem to be missing (ie. factory levels, outdoor snow levels, frozen caves, darker forest levels, treetop levels).

Not panicking, but I hope to see at least a few of those make it into the reboot.

I definitely heard some Indiana Jones during the mine cart part.

Then play it again. Sure collision is a bit flimsy, but it's tight enough. The sheer variety en levels, and the expansiveness is only beaten by Yoshi Island, but this one has more action.

I bet you played it alone too!

Considering Yamamoto is doing the score it should be as good as the music for the original DKC series, if not better.

I'm debating whether I should buy Goldeneye 007 or Black Ops for Wii for my FPS fix.

Now I'm debating whether I should buy Epic Mickey or Donkey Kong Country Returns for my platforming/adventure fix.

I hate making these tough decisions.

The collision is sloppy. Sorry, clearly you have a higher tolerance for that. I don't. If I lose, it had better be my fault, and sloppy collision results in entirely too many deaths that are not my fault.

I also didn't feel the level variety much. It all just felt like a bunch of dark, drab places. I felt it was a huge step back from DKC1 in terms of level variety, actually. As for the action, it's just the usual Rare "run you into doorknobs and hand out 1ups like popcorn to make up for it" style of design. If it weren't the 20-somethingth Rare action I'd played that worked that way, maybe I could stand more in awe of it.

I don't need to play it again. I just played it last year. And yeah, I played it alone. Somehow I doubt a second player is going to remove the game's issues, but I guess it might make it more fun in that whole "even Danger Girl is fun with beers and buddies" way.

I like Yamamoto's work, but I'm not as confident as you are that he can pull of something as amazing as this. We'll see!

At this point, if the game has music on par with even DKC3's best themes (Water World, Frosty Frolics, Treetop Tumble, Rockface Rumble, Cavern Caprice), it'd be a resounding success to me.

I have a guilty secret: I never liked Donkey Kong Country because I don't like the Kongs as player characters. DK himself is a big dumb ape and I don't care to "be" that as my game persona. Diddy's okay, but I just ain't the type of person who finds monkey antics funny.

But I have to hand it to Retro for what looks to be their insane flexibility. While they're playing this one surprisingly close vested - I wouldn't be surprised if every single screen shown so far is only from world 1 in the jungles - the quality of animation, character design, play mechanics, bounce, and tempo so far is incredible. It's pure platforming charm personified.

If the other worlds have some nice design and creativity, maybe some stage types new to the series that we haven't seen in DKC before, I'll probably jump on board.

Awesome looking footage but like someone said, I'd like to see more of the traditional leve themes. I can't believe there might not be any underwater levels? At least have the DKC2/3 hybrid of land and water.

And what the heck is the talk of bad collision detection in the old games?? WTF? First time I've ever heard someone complain about this. Never knew it was an issue.

Well for me Metroid music is superior to DKC music, only reason I would doubt Yamamoto in this case is because stylistically it is a very different from what he has worked on before.

So what's up with the controls with this game? Is the Classic Controller an option? Or do you have to use the Wiimote?
No Classic Controller, either Wii Remote and nunchuck, or Wii remote held sideways.

Why did Nintendo even release the Classic Controller if basically nothing except VC and MH will use it!?!?!?!

What do you think this game is? A Classic 2d side scrolling platfomer updated to the year 2010.

Whatever, doesn't matter, I'm over it. I just won't buy the game until Amazon has a DOTD/Gold Box for it. Oh wells.

So it's okay if you update the game to the year 2010 as long as you don't update the controls.

Got it.

This game looks amazing, maybe the best looking game this gen. Looks like it will be fun to play as well.

My nostalgia/hype are going into overdrive.

It looks so incredible, I've put so many hours into Retro's games already. Hope this is really succesful.

This looks absolutely outstanding. I love the whole look of the game. The graphics look so crisp and sharp. Retro looks to have another winner here.

Man, I loved the water levels. I mean, the whole POINT of them was to be slow, and they were well-paced once you get the swordfish. I don't really mind, though, it isn't gamebreaking.

Also, are Kremlins going to be in the game at all? I think it'd be cool if there was a dedicated world full of classic Kremlins with K. Rool as the final boss. I love the variety of enemies in favor, though, and if Kremlins were in I could imagine them putting those awful "original" Kremlin characters from the that Barrel racing game.

Can't wait for this. I just hope Nintendo don't arbitrarily push the PAL Land release into early 2011 as they did with Kirby's Epic Yarn.

NoE already confirmed it for the 3rd of December.

It sounds to me like you were just bad at the game and instead of admitting that you decided to blame the game.

It's okay, I know I've done that before too.

Saying DKC2 lacks variety, though? That's just nonsense.

DK isn't dumb, he wears a tie. He's sophisticated.

CANNOT WAIT. Will be there day 1 at midnight, already drunk with a DD waiting to escort me. This is my second favorite platformer, second to Mario. Biggest reason why Mario is #2 is due to the extensive library of awesome games. I replay DKC 1 and 2 on a yearly basis... sometimes more. I do not get any of the rare GAF hate for dkc games at all. If Retro follows through the way they did with updating Metroid for consoles, I am going to pee my pants every level, and I eagerly await every drop of it.

The animation is easily the most impressive visual aspect here. Nintendo have always been good with animation but this and Epic Yarn are another step up.

The Rambi stuff looked the most interesting. Can anyone tell me the point of blowing the flowers?
