Does anyone know if the map extends more East and we can go to Vergen?

Kind of sucks if we can't go to Vergen.
Indeed, they should have also included full vizima, zerrikania and couple worlds that Ciri visited to round it off.

Don't think so. The mountains and the fault line are artificial subdivisions on that map, Vizima and Kaer Morhen are not there geographically. Kaer Morhen is actually more to the east than Vergen.

Hard to extract anything meaningful from those horribly compressed shots.

At this point I've come to term with the game never looking as good as once showcased. Recent footage looks very good, my only gripe is the very low amount of AF. It's not alien technology CDPR, I hope it can be forced in the driver panel.

What you get out of those screenshots is a great impression of the game's atmosphere and visual style.

It's not all about graphical fidelity, thankfully.

Yeah, it's definitely cut-off.. mainly the left side and the bottom..

But man, when I see some of the monsters, ahhhh... :D like that one in the snowy mountains on the Skellige islands

Anyway, some new screens - not the best quality, but for now that's the best we can get.. till maybe tuesday

Whoa. This game is looking better and better with each passing month.

It's interesting to see that we only got this slow-moving thread where there are lots of new great information available. In the other hand, thousands of posts made in new trailer/screenshots leading to graphical downgrade.
Do people only care about the graphics of this game while ignoring the contents/mechanics?

Probably not. Just that it's easier to discuss about the visuals seen in the screenshots than gameplay mechanics and game design etc. that are yet to be seen in action by us. I'd say that during the early days of a new console generation it is quite natural to focus on the visual fidelity a little more, after all that is a fairly large selling point of it all.

Content and mechanics can be talked up to be better than they actually are, but have to be experienced to be truly appreciated. This happens a lot with preview coverage, especially with open world games.

Graphics can be evaluated pretty much at face value, unless they're clearly bullshots (Ubisoft).

Actually, I am extremely pleased with how the combat looks vastly improved from the pathetic griffin hunt months back, compared to the recent videos of a much better fight with a... Large scaly chicken thing.

The creature looked doofy, but its ai and behavior were vastly improved from the horribly stilted, predictable, and janky griffin from the last video I watched.

Now you know the secret of why companies put so much effort in trailers showing off graphics!

Give up on the dream. They've said several times in the past few months that they didn't fully know what they could get away with in the open world until early 2014. Stuff from the debut trailer and vgx trailer were vertical slices that didn't have to deal with the open world memory streaming. So the bar definitely has been lowered from this.
Too bad. This gif reminded me of 2007 and Crysis. Now we^ll just get a better looking Dragon Age Inquisition.

This will be my first witcher game :) Never played the originals.

1. Geralt has two swords, they seem iconic though - can you swap weapons out or just upgrade these?
2. How does the combat work with regards to 'signs'. Are these like 'skills' in DIablo, where you have some base moves then magic special abilities?
3. I take it that 'Witcher' is essentially the 'class' of the main character - are there sub specialisations, like mage/melee/ranged?
4. Runes and oils seem to be the equivalent of enchanting?
5. Is this real time combat? Seems to be from the trailers etc. Thinking along the lines of DA:I and Skyrim..?

Thanks

1. Traditionally a Witcher has 2 swords, a "normal" sword and a silver sword for monsters. You can swap out for different swords and i think in this one there will be other weapons as well.
2.sings are pretty much magic. there's 5; fire, telekinesis, mind control, trap and shield (each have their own name).
3. In two you had Melee, mage and alchemist.
4. jep, Runes are permanent, oils temporary.
5. You play a single character like an action game.

Can Geralt get a hair cut or will he forever have those long hair?

you can visit a barber and change haircut/beard.

Yes. One is a silver sword for monsters, the other a steel sword for dudes. You can get different types of these swords.
2. How does the combat work with regards to 'signs'. Are these like 'skills' in DIablo, where you have some base moves then magic special abilities?
The signs you get vary from protection spells, fireballs, etc. In TW2 you could use have one equipped and then use a radial menu to hot swap.
3. I take it that 'Witcher' is essentially the 'class' of the main character - are there sub specialisations, like mage/melee/ranged?
Not really. Witcher describes his profession: a genetically enhanced mutant created to kill the world's monsters. You can spec Geralt out, but he is primarily a sword fighter although I'm not familiar with the skill tree in this game. If you are expecting very heavy class divergence, like not needing to use swords whatsoever then you'll be disappointed.
4. Runes and oils seem to be the equivalent of enchanting?
Yes, alchemy is a big part of the series. You need to use the right type of potion or oil to be prepared for certain fights.
5. Is this real time combat? Seems to be from the trailers etc. Thinking along the lines of DA:I and Skyrim..?
Yes it is real time. Requires more twitch action, no party management. The RPG element comes from preparation in fights.

Thanks
My responses.

Map seems to be cut off. Is the rest of it somewhere.

Oh, and it's definitely just for the purpose of showing people what they can visit in-game. The actual map of the universe (as shown in the previous two games) is much different. Kaer Moren for instance is on the complete opposite end of the continent.

Still, this story is the first we've heard about Oxenfurt in the game, and it seems it won't be in the same map as Novigrad. I wonder if it's going to be one of the places that's it's own map.

Seems like TW3 will have two very large maps: Novigrad + No Man's Land and the Skellige Islands, in addition to several mid-sized zones that will probably feel similar to the TW1 and TW2 zones. Sounds like the best of both worlds in terms of exploration versus storytelling. CDP isn't making everything 100% open-world, but is giving you zones that will service the story/universe and probably feel more concise-gameplay-wise, and two of those zones will essentially feel like open worlds unto themselves. You could maybe compare it to having two separate Elder Scrolls games plus some DLC areas all packed onto one disc.

This shows a rough idea of whats missing.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
They really polished the game in these past few months.

They do show some game mechanics and stuff too, but graphics are always the main thing people discuss pre-release.

Good lord it looks amazing, both graphically and artistically speaking.
I just hope PS4 version holds up well in comparison to these :(

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
At this point I've come to term with the game never looking as good as once showcased.

I think it does though, the exception being early showcased material very selective in what was shown and likely supersampled to keep assets as clean and beautiful as possible (especially in dense scenes like foliage). We've just seen a lot more now, running in real time where smoke and mirrors cannot hide how the game actually looks, and gameplay where they cant cherry pick pretty scenes. Dark Souls II was a clear downgrade. The Witcher 3 doesn't strike me as that.

I started replaying Witcher 1 last weekend. It's going to be tough to find the time, but I want to get through 1 and 2 before May 19th hits. I built a new PC for this game, I am so pumped to get my hands on it.

At this point I'm thinking of just skipping the first game and jump to The Witcher 2.

I did. The combat in the first game is pretty atrocious anyways. I could never get into the first game for that very reason.

The combat in TW2 isn't perfect, but it's a shit ton better. It's actually a proper 3rd person combat system rather than just clicking at the right time when an icon appears on your screen.....

I love the use of color here. So rich.

Agreed, and I just love how organic and natural the environments look/feel. CDPR's Artist and Environment teams just never fail.
I know it's still probably years away, but I can't help but get giddy as fuck whenever I think of CDPR's art/environment guys creating a Cyberpunk world, it's going to be awesome.

Although one thing that I have noticed in recent screenshots/footage is the pretty aggressive LOD. Hopefully PC Ultra will increase it, because frankly some of the long distance stuff (Trees especially) turn into this big mass of fuzz and it kind of detracts from the overall quality of the big vistas and draw distance.
