Next Sonic game might get revealed on July 22.

You guys are all setting yourselves up to be hurt, months after E3 all over again.

Don't do this to yourselves. You're better than this.

Already happened.

Yup this, and it wasn't that bad.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
I would be cool with that as long as they retconned Shadow's story in Sonic Heroes.
If they just ignored everything after Sonic Adventure 2 that'd be great

Sonic 06 may have been the spiritual SA3 but come on, like they'd ever acknowledge that after how the game was received

I mean, if anything, Sonic 06 IS Sonic Adventure 3 in a way.

The structure of Sonic 06 is similar, a story driven game with a hub world and with multiple different playable characters with their own play-styles. The Sonic stages in particular were more closer to the free-roaming gameplay of SA1/2 compared to the on-rails stuff of the boost games. It just took everything that was wrong with the Adventure games and made them like a hundred times worse lol.

Fair enough, I forgot that's how it was setup. Guess I kinda blocked that one from memory. Sonic Unleashed clearly follows that same design (minus multiple characters), you still have hub areas and talk to NPCs.

So, let's amend my original statement to: "Sonic Adventure 4 happened!"

It's because they're waiting until after the NX reveal they don't want it to get buried in E3 news.

So...you think that the NX isn't coming to E3 but will be revealed sometime between E3 and July 22nd? That seems...ambitious. I'm not expecting to hear from it until September or so at the earliest.

All I want is a Sonic Adventure 3 with Sonic stages that play similarly to SA1 and 2 but with new graphics. That's all I want. I'll compromise with some Knuckles stages if I got to.

A Sonic Generations 2 would be ok too but I really want SA3 or even an new 3D game.

I would say they desperately need to reboot the franchise but they've failed even trying to do that multiple times already. Sega should just sell the IP and be done with it.

They got it (mostly) right with Sonic Unleashed in 2008, then near perfected the game design of 3D Sonic in Generations with multiple routes or ways to get to the goal, and the sense of speed with spectacle.

And then completely fucked themselves over when they dropped that entirely for the Lost World formula

Gaming wise I enjoyed Generations but I think whats holding Sonic back is the tone it's been giving off for the past couple of years. I'm not saying it needs to be more edgy, god knows I don't want more Shadow crap, but at the same time it's too childish and at times very annoying.

Yup I completely skipped the cutscenes in that game for the most part.

God I hope so. It would be weird to skip E3 only to unveil it (NX) only a month after.

Also, I know they've hinted it, but they have room to not announce the new game on July 22nd. "I never said it WOULD be there!" Also I think it's coming next year, not this year. I can't think of ANY Sonic game announced after E3 that came out the same year.

Sonic needs to be cool. Not like edgy black-and-red let's-give-him-a-gun cool, but like, actually cool. The series has fallen back on a sort of safe, Mario meets Pixar sort of cartoon aesthetic, and it's very nice for what it is, but it's very safe in a way that's not very Sonic. Lost World was kind of the epitome of this where it was trying so very hard to be a Mario game with a Sonic skin.

They need an art director that could inject some actual style into the game's visuals, and move the music towards something a little more bold. There's so much abstract, crazy stuff you could do with Sonic level tropes like loops and big slopes and springs, or environments like massive factories and super-surreal crystal caves that they almost never take full advantage of. Unfortunately it's been clear for a while no one at Sonic Team has any kind of vision for what the fuck a Sonic game should be.

You nailed it perfectly, the reason why the Sonic team can't or won't attempt to understand this is beyond me.

You want the comic books.

Let me politely inform you how dead your dreams are.'

Also I would pay money for more shadow whatever , cool shit happens when he's around.

I'm sorry but the talking blue furry is never going to be cool ever again.

It should be like Dark Knight Returns. Sonic's age is 15 in the canon, but a regular hedgehog lives 2-5 years. So catch up with him at his 25th birthday party, where he's older and maybe not as fast, but he comes out of retirement to stop Robotnik after he murders a bunch of innocent animals on Amy Rose's daytime talk show. He accidentally becomes an enemy of the Sega government after he is blamed for the death of Robotnik in one of those pinball things in Casino Zone, and so Sega sends their own hero in to end Sonic: Alex Kidd. Following an epic fight that sees Alex Kidd janken Sonic to death, one of Sega's snipers shoots Alex Kidd, putting him out of his 25-year lonesome misery, and the end credits announce that Sega is exiting videogames forever as punishment to themselves for not releasing PSO 2 in the west.

Shadow just seemed to be trying too hard to be edgy and I'm still surprised that comic is on going after all these years.

I honestly have no hopes for Sonic, haven't really mattered to me since the Genesis era. I'm just saying it would be nice to see it be something other then a joke like it is now. It is salvageable but not by team that been running it into the ground.

Adventure 1, I feel, had the right idea of a tone for a "Modern Sonic" could be like. Definitely in the music department. It needs better execution in cutscenes though.

If we're talking tone, and perhaps even writing in general, I'd argue that Black Knight has the best rendition of Sonic.

Strange how that game got that element spot-on but cocked up everything else.

Shadow didn't try hard to be anything , he kind of just was. When character is trying to do something they don't usually become anywhere as near as popular as shadow is. Much like the DMC series, and most recently reaper from overwatch, there is an earnestness in this cheese and edge that draws people in. There is no try, there is just edgelord. To be honest that ernestness in edge and cheese has been present in sonic sense the beginning the problem is, they have forgotten.

To the bottom part. That would require a confidence in what they are doing and what they make. And I don't know if they had that

Sonic comics are the best right now.

Sonic comic's have the best version of every sonic character in the games.

As long as it's not another Sonic Boom type game, i'll be ok.

Honestly, Sonic Team need to go back to their roots with Sonic. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was a good game, i enjoyed that. Even Sonic Generations was a good game, so maybe another Sonic based on either of these 2 would be a good idea.

So I've heard, but having not read them myself, Black Knight was my first port of call.

The current arc has run a little long in the tooth, they decided that unleashed was going to happen for the past 2 years... and forgot maybe not that many people liked the non daytime gameplay parts of unleashed, but all that said. Its worth reading.

Like seriously there is a care and value put into the characters, some might argue unnecessarily so, that show that they genuinely care about them and quality.

also best version of amy, what happens when amy kind of desn't give that much of shit about sonic and is her own characters, she's just cooler than sonic. Turns out amy is actually the coolest, we should have just been making games about amy.

I know it's Sonic's anniversary and all, but they should really let this franchise rest for like 5 years or something.

To me it feels like the franchise has already had a 5 year rest since I found Lost World so forgettable. The most recent games were all outsourced. Terrible, but outsourced.

It happened!

Daytime stages were great.
Amazing soundtrack: Windmill Isle (Day), Chun-nan (Night)
Only downside was the "werehog" stuff: iIt took too long, was repetitive and needed a few more months of polish to the levels/controls.

Overall though, Unleahsed was a decent game and well worth looking into if you wanted more Sonic Adventure.

This game didn't play anything like the Adventure games. You might as well call Rush Adventure "Adventure 3," because it had Adventure in the title too.

Sonic fans as a collective need to get over the idea of Sonic Adventure 3.

Why? I still legitimately really really like those games to this day, and yes I have played them recently. There's nothing out there that plays anything like them, at least in terms of variety of content. Like, I haven't played anything that plays similarly to the Knuckles stages especially, and the Chao Garden is of course a one-of-a-kind. And it seems like a lot of the fanbase wants it too. Boost fans got three games, classic fans got four-five games depending on if you count Knuckles as a full game on the Genesis/CD plus a ton of classic-style games on handhelds (though the fans will debate over their quality). There are only two Adventure games, and both games have elements that feel like they could have been further realized in another game.
