Nintendo eShop update officially released [New Update: Fixes Ridge Racer 3DS issue]

Wait, so Shantae and Cave Story can be bought on an Aus 3DS via region changing?

Can someone confirm to me the 3D Euro store how much each game costs in euros, and how much money you can add to your account? Is it in 10 euro increments or exact amounts?

I'll do the transfer if thats what it takes to get them

So my brother owns Ridge Racer.... and it's the only game he owns so far...
What exactly did it break?
If it's a choice of
1) Play Ridge Racer or
2) Get free Excite/Pokedex... I bet I know which one he'll choose. But I thought I'd ask.

If you press B at a few screens the game will crash. That is the ridge racer problem. It will be fixed later this month, Namco claims. But the fact it breaks to begin with is worrying as it means future updates could do the same to other games and go unoticed.

Wait, juding by fact that Brasil<>US that does not eat points but Australia>Europe does eat points? How can Nintendo justifiy this behaviour? Has anyone ever talked to Nintendo about it? Then again its a risk, they might just make so everyone else has to put up with Nintendo stealing their points (which they are legallly able to do as it says in the terms of service...).

Can anybody confirm if this works for Cave Story in the EU? I have credit already and I don't want to lose it by switching regions.
There is no Cave Story in EU and EU 3DS can not be swapped to US or Japan (assuming they are like Wiis that is).

Jintor said:
Cheers Vooks... so it's bloody 10.2 euros?
Its 12 Euros in Europe...which considering the whole eating points thing it might be best to get 20 Euros and spend all of that. Rather than buy £20 and have to work out how to spend the remaining £9.20.

Thank god I can change the region on the Australian 3DS to UK. The Australian store has neither Shantae or Cave Story, wtf is up with that?
OFLC ratings cost the same no matter what the product is and considering the budget and money made per download, the DSi market wasn't big enough to make any money back on. Then there is the whole "Nintendo loves small independant developers with no money which is why for every region you wish to publish in you need to find a publisher and pony up the money for age ratings (or hope said publisher does that). After all you did need an office to get a developer kit to start with."

I don't know. Other than Pilotwings, everything about the 3DS has been really underwhelming. Hopefully they bring the heat with some game announcements today, because right now I see Ebay in my system's future.
I understand the sentiments at a lackluster launch, but I've never understood the mentality and attitude people have about threatening to re-selling the hardware during its lifetime. Maybe I'm different, but when I buy a system then I know for a fact that I am in for the long haul regardless of how many games are available at launch.

At least with Nintendo systems you know what you are going to get. People seem to want things shoved in their face asap, even if it is 3 years away. Little did I know that when I bought a DS and PSP was the fact that I would be enjoying an RPG like Radiant Historia or still be racing through some of my favourite tracks and tunes on Ridge Racer 2 in their respective twilight years; especially when I bought both for Nintendogs & Lumines respectively.

Trying not to single you out but maybe I am getting a little irritated over the immature knee-jerk reactions I've been seeing constantly on Gaming over the past year or two. /2cents.

I hope the VC also includes GBA down the line. Gameboy had some games that I will play again, but a whole heap of the greatest handheld gaming resides on GBA.
I'm really hoping for this as well. I got rid of my Golden Sun and Zelda games, it'd be great to have them back again through emulated means.

It may cause freezes on selection screens, particularly if you press B to go back when you're on the Race Select or Machine Select screens. I am able to continue my game and start single player and grand prix races with no trouble.

The only way for the eShop to be successful is to open it up to all developers like Apple does. The open market on the Apple App Store is the reason why it is so successful. I don't understand why Nintendo (and Sony and Microsoft) don't understand this.

So skimming through the thread it sounds like a huge number of people missed the search function (because many of the filtering options that people think are missing are there). Really guys?

This shop is way better than Wii and DSi that's for sure. I do like the rotating shelf idea to help spotlight older games by unique criteria. I don't enjoy sales tax though.

It's also nice to have some new impressive 3D content. I was pleasantly surprised with the Gameboy VC. That's really damn cool (plus manual save states).

Huh, if that's the case then maybe Vooks didn't do his home work properly. He probably left it on the UK store after he made the switch in the hopes of not loosing his money again (I wouldn't blame him).

Because that would mean having to spend hundreds of man hours going through each app and it would also loosen their grip on their market control.
It's pretty simple to understand why they don't do it.

I think they just don't agree with your assessment. Nintendo has gone on record as saying they believe the App Store and similar platforms are devaluing games, and Nintendo is obviously determined to go a different route. Personally, I'm glad. I love that iOS is so wide open, but at the same token, I can now turn to my 3DS for more meaningful gaming experiences for a bit more. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for with each platform, with a few exceptions, such as Plants vs. Zombies and the like. Don't think you'll ever find a game like Shantae for $0.99 on iOS, though.

welp, less than two hours to go and i'm on my way (to the show, not the conference). have fun with the crazy, people.

The Virtual Console launch sucked. They couldn't have added at least Kirby's Dreamland or Link's Awakening?

Oh well, at least they were smart enough to let DSiWare for 3DS so I have plenty of games to download.

I doubt it would ever happen, but I'd love to see the two GBA games, Ninja Five-O and Kuru Kuru Kururin and the sequel to it to hit the eShop. Heck, put them in 3D and I'll pay a bazillion dollars.

You really think Nintendo, Sony and MS are just going to let you throw whatever app you want up? Even Apple takes some down.

I think he means making sure nobody is uploading naughty games.
Apple do have some Quality control I believe, its Android Marketplace that suffers a little from garbage and porn apps.

I still get errors when trying to enter the eshop. I can't believe this is still not working!

Cmon!

I've been in and out of it umpteen times with no connection troubles. I think some of these errors are likely to be to do with DNS propagation or something.

In your 3DS Internet Connection settings, try adding manual DNS to your connection (turn auto-obtain off):

Keep your router's IP address as your Primary DNS if you want to keep trying your ISPs DNS now and then
but for others:

Google DNS
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

OpenDNS
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

If that doesn't work, perhaps try adding a proxy.

Posting from the 3DS! EXCITE

Turning my computer on, and then it's time to buy the Animal Crossing Calculator/Clock.

I also need a calendar. C'mon, Nintendo!

yes it's really amazing how this old school simple looking game looks good with the slider all up ant the 3D ingame option to full

Picked up Super Mario Land (again, still have the original) - love this. Save states!

Saw this article covering the display modes and how to switch between them. The mode with the gameboy backdrop, indented display at original resolution (and green tint) is great - does anyone know if I can make this my default?

Aaaand still not working. I cannot for the life of my link my Club account. Same region, I took the special character out of the username itself on Nintendo's site like their support page said could be the problem and I've tried multiple access points.

This is annoying.

EDIT: Oh for **** sake, I went to log back into my club account to check something else and my login wasn't working. Turns out it not only screwed my password but it changed my username to login with back to the one with the underscore in it! Did they do a reset on any of this crap? It's letting me log in normally with the corrected one after changing it again, but I'm not exactly hopeful at this point.

EDIT 2: That did it. Word to the wise: remove any special characters from your login on the club site and when you make the change, log out using the log out link on the site, then log back in to make sure it took, then try linking again.

Going through thousands of apps? I dunno, it can't be a cost that Nintendo would like, I'm sure. As it is, developers have to submit the games. Allowing just any random person to upload anything sounds like a pain in the ass to control.

I had some AR markers lying around, so I tried scanning them with the Pokedex app.
This one shows an unknown pokeman (just a silhouette and a bunch of question marks) and adds a marker sticker with no pokeman attached to your album:

The pokeman looks a bit like this one (thanks Gravijah): http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/583.shtml
Perhaps it's something they'll add with an update?

Someone is proposing that Nintendo follows Apple's model. You don't need to create a straw-man of what Apple's model is. It's well documented. Apple doesn't just allow "any random person to upload anything" and it doesn't take "thousands of man hours" to process submissions, and yet it is open to everyone.

According to Serebii, if you scan markers, the likelihood of finding that Pokemon via SpotPass will increase. You can't actually scan and have Pokemon added. Only Spot Pass and trading with friends will add Pokemon.

edit: By the way, I ended up with Audino, Emolga, Foongus, Minccino, Scraggy, Axew, and Hydregion. In addition to all the starters full lines, which I'm guessing everyone has.

Then again given it was the exception last time, it could well be the same this time. Though the fact it appears seperate countries have seperate wallets is reassuring.

I would geuss the whole points eating started off due to it making a mess of accounts (I assmue Europe and Australia are considered seperate and with downloads I guess you pay based off country they are bought from...basically it leads to Nintendo making less profits) and so to discourage the behaviour. But with each country a seperate wallet (assuming that is walys the case), it removes the problem as funds will always ben spent in the correct country. Also this could be a way to get round the monthly $1000 restriction...

The real question is are the account histories seperate too as them not being could mean the accounts are actually seperate too. Which could be make for a messy situation when it comes to the next Nintendo systems (as in can only transfer games bought on Australia account or whatever).

The fuck? I'm not seeing the Pokémon/Excitebike screenshots in 3D? A mess! And the image quality, God save us all.

Is that how it's supposed to be?

Uhm, not really actually. I scanned some (see my other post above) and new Pokemans were added to my list.
I had the same starting lineup as you, btw.

Yea, I certainly remember not being able to beat many games when I was a kid, but SML was not one of them. Not a cake walk, but you know. I guess he's talking more about save states though.

Well, of course 'hundreds' is an overstatement. However, is clear that Nintendo (and MS and Sony) want a lot more control of their platform than Apple, (not to mention Google...). A hidden 'jail breaking app' or emulator could do unrepairable damage (on their eyes) at the very least, not to mention they want to avoid what could be potentials PR nightmares like 'Baby shake' and the game(s) that ripped off sprites.

:(

I'm also not happy with the video quality, and when you check the software information page there's no option to watch trailers or videos, you have to SEARCH for it. :/

EDIT: Actually some have a "related videos" menu, but most don't.

I was surprised I had to dig into the settings menu to initiate the update. They should really have some pointer about doing that.

Pleasantly surprised ExciteBike is free, I didn't know it would be :) Web browser is kind of eh though, but it would do in a pinch if I was without other access.

I'm coming from America to the UK and Germany.

Downloaded Excitebike, Super Mario Land and the Pokedex and also caught up on some DSi Ware games I had missed out on. Picked up Shantae, Soul of Darkness (I'm that desperate for a new Castlevania game), and Dark Void Zero.

Really bummed out about the DSi games being saved to system storage space instead of SD card. Just with those few games, I'm around 700 blocks and having flashbacks to the fridge metaphors from the Wii.

Also having the problem of Club Nintendo not detecting a linked account - although I'm sure that will get fixed soon.

Nintendos power supplies are fixed voltage. You'll need a European (230V) power supply, an American one will not work. Luckily, they're pretty cheap.
