Quite the beginning to the last episode. Nice to see someone kick the bucket who isn't a hilarious northerner.

Well, There are no hilarious northerners anymore :( .

I was a bit annoyed that the shadow baby "just" turned to be an assassin. It seems too overpowered to me. I was rather hoping for a shadow scout providing intel to Stannis.

Now i am wondering if he Tyrels would do anything from now, Loras is just a whiny girl but his sister certainly has some interesting facets.

just my opinion, but I don't see why book readers shouldn't post here, as long as they don't drop any unmarked spoilers. And if you suspect someone of doing just that, perhaps you should send that person a pm before you call them out in the thread. Okay, enough drama.

Because there is no reason for it and it is inevitable for some moron to start trying to be cute. Why do book readers want to participate in this thread in the first place? It isn't for them.

Why do book readers want to participate in this thread in the first place?

why to lick up the reactions from people during big show moments. it's like living vicariously through your guys eyes. it's more entertaining than the show itself!

Of course, the problem is the book people who are coming into this topic and "answering" questions and riddles posed by non-book readers, and thus solving their logical show questions with their actual book knowledge. And then trying to act like they're not doing that.

Ex:

Non-book Reader: "Wow, that was unexpected. Given what I've seen in the show, I would have expected X. I wonder if that means Y is going to happen."
Book Reader: "What would make you think that? I am pretty sure the show has given no indication of that. I would expect rather that Z is going to happen."
Non-book Reader: "I didn't think of that. Makes perfect sense!"
Book Reader: *internally* 'lol'

With Y being the non-book readers guess (usually wrong), and Z being the actual book readers feigned ignorance response, which is the actual reality.

Damn.... I love that this show is so unpredictable. Within 5 minutes a main protagonist is just killed off, and so casually too (well..... As casual as a shadow assassination can be). It really keeps you on your toes. No one is safe, I half expect every character's appearance to be their last.

Oh, and Finchy turning up... Awesome stuff! Brent can't be far behind. :p

Well, it was not really the death that surprised me, but the actual suddenness of it. A moment he is speaking gently with lady Stark, the next one he has a shadowy blade trough his heart, and the episd had just started. I was blown away.

I honestly don't see how there can be any kind of discussion in this thread whatsoever. The attitudes of a lot of people here have turned this thread into some sort of paranoia pit. You can't even talk about what happened in the latest episode without being said to have spoiled something by someone who I'm not even sure actually watches the show.

"Man, it seems to me like Theon is getting pretty ambitious. Looks like he is going to gain the admiration of his crew by trying something extremely daring like attacking Winterfell or something."

"Ban this motherfucker!" "OMG!!! TEH SPOILERZ! Show ruined!"

Like somebody mentioned earlier, you're going to have to include a time stamp in every post just to prove what you were saying actually happened in the show. (22:50, by the way. At least, that is what I got out of that conversation between Theon and his first mate. Sounds like they plan to attack one place, knowing that they won't be able to hold it simply in order to draw the army's attention to one location, and then move on to the now undefended bigger prize. Add that to later conversation between that wildling chick and Bran....)

Is that plan going to even work? Hell if I know. I just know that that seems to be the plan. Theon's ship may get wrecked by Yara's fleet if anyone sees him going off the proper path and disobeying his father.

I missed the part where she killed her husband, or where she caused the queen to have sex with het brother apparantly. None of this would have happened without Cersei. Lady Stark is cool.

you forget the way she treated jon snow, resenting him for something he had no control over

also the part where she tries to team with renly, ignoring the fact that her dead husband believed stannis was the true king

both not cool, and that's ignoring all the stupid irrational stuff she does

anyone can be killed

Do you really think that's the best way to handle it?

It minimizes frequent book debaters here, it minimizes non book readers that spoils themselves, it minimizes pretenders.
Will it fix everything? No. But I did noticed that a few posters that I thought unawarely dropped information here, have posts there :/. Sometimes they read spoilers there that are being treated as trivial and due to the closeness to the show, end up posting here without realizing.

I wonder if this show will ever show a battle ever

or just 1v1

its always like 'oh fuck yes a huge battle' and then cut to a bunch of dead soliders everywhere and some guy says "x beat the hells out of y lolz"

Instead of editing out the sex stuff, it might be a good opportunity to discuss what the show is trying to convey, and how depictions of base human behavior (wanton sex and violence) is how a primitive society behaves. Make parallels to medieval times, which this book is based off of. Explain how violence and sex should be handled in the context of a modern and law-abiding society. Explain to your son how to distinguish between fictional story-telling and real life, and how to go about deriving morals and lessons from fiction that can be applied to real-life situations.

consider yourself lucky that you evidently have been able to pass your IQ level down to your children to A) care for that discussion B) able to comprehend it.

Sadly, most kids are unable to comprehend let alone sit still and listen to a parent trying to share such a philosophical discussion. they just want to see more blood and boobs. :)

I'm not sure why this show would be beneficial at all for a kid. There are plenty of other sources that discuss everything that game of Thrones does. For a preteen, many of those would be more enjoyable unless the kid is particularly precocious.

It's not a kids show for more than the sex.

I think that is budgetary more than anything. Big battles probably cost at least four dollars, if not more.

"A man pays his debts. A man owes.. three".

I just loved that scene between him and Arya. And the language he uses is just so unusual. The way he words things is so fractured and distant (its probably the way everyone should be speaking tbh, but I expect that would be offputting for most viewers).

Jaquen is quickly becoming one of my favs. Oh, and the dragon scene was 'money', to use the modern vernacular.

Some kids are capable of handling the content at 12. Some are not. That is up to the discretion of the parents. The blood and boobs are the hook; it is the responsibility of a good parent/educator to take whatever hooks you have and attempt to turn it into an educational experience.

That's interesting because I never trusted him until he pledged himself to Robb toward the end of last season (Although he did do some questinable things still like near raping Asha(?)). He's the GoT's equivalent of Anakin Skywalker to me and he just turned to the Dark Side.

I'm hoping he won't actually allow harm to come to the Starks themselves though.
Same here. His pledge to Robb last season sealed the deal to me. I also hope he doesn't bring harm to the Starks, after all they treated him like family.

Also, I don't know if it's been answered already but something's kind of bugging me. Out of goodwill Tyrion sent Cat Ned's remains so he could be laid at peace in Winterfell. Did Cat make arrangements to send Ned's remains back before Renly was assassinated?

Or did she never get the chance and Ned's remains are still at Renly's old kingdom?

She fled without the guards that accompanied her. I was thinking that maybe she sent them to Winterfell and had the protection of Renly's army to escort her.

His pledge at the time seemed really genuine, and it likely was at the time, but I think he's definitely going to go back on it. I feel like he's completely bending over backward for his father in order to win him over for some stupid reason. If he was going to rebel or not harm the Starks he'd have already done it. He's thrown his lot in with the Greyjoys and against his old family. To me it feels like a huge betrayal, not just to the Starks, but to me personally because like you guys I fell for his pledge. It's especially bad seeing him do it, because his dad and his family just shit all over him. I feel like he was far more welcome with the Starks, and no matter what he does he probably will only barely be liked much less welcome back as a part of the family.

Ok, so what about people like me?

Ive posted in that thread(honestly you all have scared me, havent been there for a week, did it get that bad??). I've read the first book and part of the second book(though only about 100 pages). And all the stuff happening now I havent read about.

I feel this place is the better location so I dont get something accidentally spoiled, but I tend to still sneak into that thread because people here tend to only whine about spoilers and rarely discuss much.

Dang, Gendry was looking pretty fine with no shirt and that grime makeup. I just noticed that when they showed the Tickler dead, his head was facing backwards. I didn't realize that, it makes his death seem all the more brutal.

I couldn't help but be reminded of that Spaceballs transporter scene, though.

Yeah, my wife let out a squeal when they showed Gendry without a shirt.

Tywin's a contender, but he hasn't actually done anything particularly noteworthy to deserve a spot on the one and definite cool wall yet! I need to see more of him first.

He has a target and a smiley face for goddamned eyeballs. What more do you want man?

He's Charles Dance. That automatically puts you on the cool wall.

alright, alright, I stand corrected. He'll get his place on the wall next week well actually, there's already the other one

speculation time:
Jaqen's second target will be the Mountain, or that guy who lead the charge on the Night's Watch draftees
Third one has to be Lord Tywin, but with be a twist - Jaqen's assassination attempt fails, then Ayria has to kill Tywin

Tywin deserves to be on the cool wall just because of the quality of the actor.

I admit this episode shifted my opinion of Jorah Mormont. Before I thought he was an unflappable badass but it looks like he has more than one dimension.

To be 100% clear, I have not read any of the books, but now I'm sufficiently angry at Theon, here's how I hope it goes down: the Winterfell guards head to that village being attacked, most of them die (but maybe the one guy whose name we know lives - Brockman or something?). Meanwhile, Lily Allen's brother comes to Winterfell and tries to take control of the town. He's not harming anyone he knows if he doesn't have to, but he gets control of it just as Cat and Brienne reach the city gates. Brienne kicks down the gates, runs up to Lily Allen's brother and shoves her massive sword through his weird little head. The end.

Honestly I agree with him too. I think out of everyone she deserves the throne the most and will do the most good for it. Plus the Dragon Initiative gives her cool points.

I find it strange how I find myself supporting Stannis and Daenerys (both of whom have rights to the throne) and simultaneously supporting Rob Stark given that they are all in theory against each other. As an audience we all want an anti-Lannister alliance but the story-line refuses to give that to us. Stannis' right to the throne is that he is next in line to Robert but Robert's right to the throne was that he defeated the Tagaryens in battle. Following that logic Joffrey has a similar right to the throne. While the Lannister's never defeated the Baratheon's and Starks in battle they certainly beat Robert through manipulation and trickery. Who is to say that Jamie and Cerci's method of taking the crown is any less honourable than that of Robert Baratheon's. I suppose thats where the whole "power resides where people believe it to reside" thing comes from. The three dragons will certainly inspire belief in Daenerys' power if it gets that far.

Pretty much. I want to think maybe he has something else up his sleeve. But he probably wants to prove himself to his family.
