No Man's Sky - Atlas Rises |OT| Nada, Polo and you no longer fly solo

Landed on a low atmosphere planet, just sand everywhere, set against the dark sky. As far as you can see, but it's so peaceful and suddenly music new to me in the game creeps in. A softly pulsing piano piece. My favourite thing I've heard in this game. I need to find out where to get the new soundscapes.

Edit: named the planet Solitude. It's perhaps my favourite yet despite being barren.

Is mission deletion in an upcoming patch? I can't remember if they said.

It was apparently in the experimental build on PC at some point recently, so fingers-crossed!

I'd also like it if they looked at the HUD as well, specifically the ability to hide or show marker icons bar the (?) points.

Yes, I've been playing on the experimental patch and the missions screen is a bit quicker now and once you accept a mission you can abandon it in the same menu.

The game is such in fantastic shape now, I actually double dipped for the Steam version this morning so my son and I could mod it! :) Anyone recommend some great mods?

Also love it on our PS4 Pro. Such a peaceful, amazing experience and the soundtrack by 65DaysofStatic is jaw-dropping awesome!

living glass sells for around 700K per unit. The explosive goes for over a mil but the plants take longer to grow so I go with the glass.
Ah fair enough, what's 300k here or there? :) So you built living glass in order to grow living glass in order to sell it, gotcha!

Sidenote: Are there any websites with pictures/videos of cool architecture for inspiration? My base looks like hot garbage.

Yeah, I mean, I'm used to the inventory management at this point, but the ideal scenario would probably be to have a button that switches where you want to transfer it to/from. So you press Y/Triangle and then maybe LB/RB (disable the sections swapping while a slot is selected) to swap between sources/destinations. This should solve being able to easily transfer from/to the freighter, vehicles or the containers as well, but that's a whole other point.

I think at some point they'll have to revamp the inventory system because they keep adding new cargo sources and it's all getting a bit out of hand.

BTW, regarding farming and making good money, I followed this procedure but planted double the Fungal Mould. Chasing around for cacti can be a bit tiresome at times but I'm also doing missions and messing around in the galaxy in general, and every half an hour or so I make 10 Liquid Explosives and get 10 mil. I'm not really playing optimally or anything but I'm at about 75 million credits right now which is more than I've ever had in this game. The prices for ships and freighters are still pretty high but I'd be content to be able to buy one of those new exotic ships (as a second ship) so I guess I'll keep grinding a bit while I do missions etc.
That farming method describes the exact setup of my current system.
I would have to stay on the same planet I dismantled the base I am increasingly attached to :F
Did I hit some kind of fortuitous glitch in the Exocraft base building mission? The last mission has me hitting up a terminal to siphon like 36k units. So I do it, walk away, get in my ship and notice the mission marker is still on the terminal.

"oh, did I not end the transaction right?"

I do it again.
And again. And again. And again. And again.

I've now hit it for 1million units, by increments of 36k. With no signs of it stopping..
There's no way that works.
Holy crap that works lol.

Yeah the last mission of the Exocraft quest (which is repeatable.) The text says it could be a setup for consequences down the road, but this could also easily be the same bug that used to work on observatories.

Check out the modding section in the resource hub below, specifically milamber's awesome guide of options (I'm also personally really fond of Big Things but YMMV)

The soundtrack/procedural score is the glue that binds this whole thing together for me. It's just sublime.

Oh yes! Thanks Hawkian! :) I'll be showing these mods to my son in a few minutes when they get back from the store!

Iceyflamez-Amazing pictures! I could probably look at pictures from the game all day.

65 Days of Static always gets the credit for this, and they deserve a ton, but John Weir and the programmers who built the procedural music system played just an important role. It really does push the state of the art in generative scores for game music way forward. The way that melody lines form and change, instruments fade in and out, based on the player's actions and the environment just never ceases to surprise me.

Is the Artemis questline basically a tutorial or something?

The hoops it makes me jump through make me scratch my head. What is the reward of this quest?

It gave me a terrain morph blueprint some way down the line so i can't complain tbh.

When do I run into
Nada and Polo? Is that part of the main Atlas storyline? I need some of their upgrades and the Atlas pass but can't remember when they show up.

And you grow what in there to get money? The liquid explosive stuff or something else?

Edit: Guys, aren't they kinda revamping the inventory controls in the new experimental patch? It said something about new control binds for switching between the new inventories? Of course, the switching is the least concern imo considering the poor foundation (move all tech to different inventory automatically for starters).

I was wondering about this and decided to do what Sean described people (including myself) did during the Commodore 64 days when they got a new game without a manual - press every button on the keyboard!

Left and Right Cursor keys cycle through the inventory sections, so at least you don't have to select the Cargo section with your mouse, you can just tap the Left Cursor key. This is in the experimental patch.

Deviate from the atlas pass, I.e jump one system or do toward the center.

just a bug, sorry :( I don't like them either.

Just in case you don't know, those show up if you "scan" buildings. It's very, very easy to do accidentally.

The only way to get them to go away is to restart/reload unfortunately.
Thanks guys! Though, I just discovered that this is not a bug, but rather a FEATURE? If you scan something, be it a building or a tech container on the ground next to a crashed plane or freighter, or a mineral, if you then do not scan anything else after, flying around will automatically tag the same thing on the map for you if you get close enough so that you can find more of it. Very useful!

Hmm, interesting. That would make sense as to why they're so big and distracting now. But how to turn off...

Do you have a controller you can try it with as well? I wonder how it translates to PS4, because L1/R1 toggles between inv, ship, vehicle, freighter right now.

NMS isn't known for having toggles for anything :/

I would like to congratulate the No Man's Sky community on finally having an early access game that reached feature complete beta and has a price reflective of early access instead of full retail finished game price

I've actually been tempted to try the game again since it sounds like resources have actual scarcity and an actual loop, there is an actual fucking story, you can set up a base on a planet, you can actually return to that fucking planet, portals are finally a thing, there are more then like 4 planet types, and you can actually do 70% of the shit Sean promised in the previews

But because I refunded the complete lie I was sold on PSN - not being told it was early access - not being told I was buying a broken alpha with literally zero features or gameplay, I can NEVER purchase a new digital license for the game on PSN. It says I purchased the game on the download page and If I download it it says I don't have a valid license.

Shame. damn shame.

How do I get the voltaic cell blueprint to drop? I've built a base with a construction, exocraft and science terminal with specialists recruited for each. The quest now says to construct a voltaic cell, but I don't have the blueprint...

It's not feature complete yet. Which is good. It means there's still new content to look forward to. :)

Story character spoilers:
Holy shit, was not expecting Apollo to look like that. Just had the first encounter with him, he claims he knows someone who can hook me up with a base somewhere nice. I'm slightly dubious as to what his standard of nice is but happy to move on from this system now. Apollo has way too many similarities to Atlas, makes me uneasy. Interested to see where this goes.

Shame. damn shame.

I imagine it would be cheaper to find a second hand copy online or in a store.

What the.... that is kind of an obtuse feature. Cool maybe, but bizarre that they didn't even mention it. If it is a feature though, then existing POIs should disappear if you scan another kind of thing. So I'd consider that part a bug.

If you really want to try it, it's still sold as a physical edition. Also, gtfo with "price reflective of early access". This game as of 1.3 is worth full price IMO, as it's more or less the game they promised it would be. There are things that aren't quite as good or complex as the early trailers, but there's also features that they never even talked about, like owning freighters, base building, and drivable exocrafts.

And "broken alpha with literally zero features or gameplay" is just completely untrue, as my 100+ hours pre-Foundation would attest to. The skeleton of the game was always there, it's just got a body around it now.

So the reddit user updated his farming profitability sheet.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1aUngh-xLU2hjjzFW72On-LILmshFMLvKLBUZiGh1EHw/htmlview#

Protip for farming glass... get yourself a radioactive planet so you can plant all that Gamma outside.
My current system has a Toxic World (where I live,) an Inferno World and a Radioactive World. Perfect for any farm.

I guess my base is coming down this weekend. We're farmers now.

Leaning towards explosives as my primary source of income. I'll just check in on my farm occasionally and load my backup ships with explosives then load everything onto my main ship and make 1 fully stocked sale per system to maximize value there instead of shopping my wares to many different systems.

Yea my first haul of glass in my home system crashed the market here by 200k lol so I'll be doing some warping as well for the next.

My least favorite environments in this game aesthetically are pretty easily the snowy areas with trees. The snow environments are much better without the trees imo.

Skyrim does it way better. I don't think this this game pulls it off quite on the same level :p

I don't think I have one shot (not using big things or something) in this environment saved into my picture files. Don't know what it is about them but I can't get into them. These may not be the best shots that show them off, just got them quickly off of reddit.

I disagree completely, I love the shapes they pit against the snow in the night when I'm exploring.

My favourite trees in 100+hrs were on a snow planet, with silver-birch like patterns of red set against silver bark and soft bushy snow-capped leaves branching out at the top. They were the largest trees I've seen yet in the game, up to three times the height of any other and looked stunning.

Just dug up the pics from an old Reddit post:

You can see how tall they are relative to the average tree:

It depends on how the procedural turns out in the end. These type of trees fit much better in this type of environment (which is what reminds me of Skyrim).

Can a base appear on those flyin huge rocks on some planets? That would be cool as fuck.
If you happen to stumble on a planet with floating rocks, craft a signal booster and locate as many habitable bases as you can find. Then go to them until you find one on a floating rock (hopefully). It would pretty cool if that was possible, indeed.

This may be a case where you're judging the biome based on screenshots, instead of being immersed in the environment. While I got quite sick of seeing the snow biome of Balari V in the pre-launch press previews, it was a different thing to walk around in it. And the snow textures as of 1.3 look much improved.

I'm also surprised you would chose the snow environment as the worst-looking, compared with the constantly-ugly toxic biome with its smudgy textures.

I'd be curious to see what you think of it and the game in general if you ever decide to play it.

You can't build windows into the freighter? :(

I imagine this is because the freighters are static model pieces, which your window would have to punch through. I'm sure it's possible, they just took the easy route. It is a shame, I'd love to see space vistas from my hypothetical freighter base. And I'm kind of surprised they didn't take the time to do this considering Sean was always saying looking out the window of the space stations was his favorite thing to do in the game.
