Im surprised Adam Eget was able to stop licking the shit filled asshole of a nazi corpse long enough to give us this news. I hope Norm is alright and hasn't comitted suicide on behalf of his act and beliefs

It's hard to be angry at free entertainment but this schedule is a joke... just hope it's not related to norms health as we all know he's a big fatguy now.

I don't what's going on they can't announce a schedule in advance. Maybe Norm's off on a big eating and gambling binge.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Is the "working on their screenplay" thing just a joke?

Man I hope Norm isn't having serious health problems. His weight really surprised me. I didn't know he'd gotten so fat.

Is there anything 'wrong' with NM, besides him having gained some weight?

He's fine. Gained his weight for a role. Not any one in particular, mind you.

Why are people reading so far into the show being on hiatus? Viewership might not be what they had hoped for or could simply be the costs are too high and they're having trouble finding sponsors.

Personally I think the live video format was a huge mistake. Part of making something like this enjoyable is being able to pre-tape a batch so you don't have to show up at some dinky studio every Monday evening. No need to turn it into a chore.

I think the sponsor problem might be valid.

They were brutal to Mangrate, What did Norm and Adam expect exactly from Mangrate?.To be thrilled that they were being promoted like shit?

Might have scared off potential sponsors.

It was funny to see Andy Dick actually try to be professional and promote Mangrate it in a positive way when he realized that Norm and Adam were just savaging the product.

I think it was mentioned they lost Dollar Shave Club also.

Yeah it doesn't sound too good. Hope he gets better soon. Classic Norm though, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think it's probably some combination of all of these things.

I mean, he did zero other podcasts to try to promote Norm Macdonald Live and he's missed multiple shows in the very short run of the podcast.

I think the biggest single issue here is that there are two ways to view this show:

1) As huge step down from having a Conan-type show of his own (in terms of prestige but even more so in terms of money).

2) As a promotional platform for his comedy career.

Viewed from the first perspective the show has been a failure. They haven't made any direct money.

Viewed from the second perspective the show has been a massive success and he would likely see the results reflect on his stand-up if he would promote his dates along with each episode.

What's most frustrating is that he could clearly have a much better stand-up career if he just put a little more work into the business side of it. I live in NYC and I think he's only had one show here in last 5 years. He doesn't even have a specific website where you can check his tour dates.

/rant

Whatever. If they do take time off and then return later it will only help. In their time away new people will find their youtube videos. It might even gain a cult following.

I'm not sure Norm is driven in the same way that most stand-ups are. He does what he has to do to get by (State Farm, Carls Jr./Hardees way back when, voiceover work) and then does things he enjoys (family, watching sports, reading).

I suspect he's ramping up a bit more now that his son is older. Actually, just searched to see if he's college-bound now and found an interview that does a good job explaining Norm: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2...want-to-go-back-to-work-any-more-than-you-do/

I really wish the Stan Hooper twist would have happened (assuming he isn't BSing, I know I've read that a few times but have never been sure if it was for real). That show sucked, but I actually tuned in each week as I've always been nuts about Norm. I'd like to rematch it now and consider where he might have been going with it had it not been cancelled so quickly.

I know Adam Carolla's podcast is huge on downloads, so youtube views might not mean much. But Norm MacDonald Live is actually pulling in more views on youtube. I compared the 4 week old episodes. Seems like it is a success as podcasts go.

I thought it would have helped them on Itunes if they allowed the video version on there and not just the audio.

I know Joan Rivers and Kevin Pollack offer both.

But being that they are on the "Video Podcast Network" they probably want to keep that aspect of their shows to themselves I guess.

I would love to watch the show on my Apple TV rather than boot up the computer to watch it.

I guess I could use Youtube on the Apple TV but navigating youtube with the default remote is just painful.

I watch it on my Wii U on my TV.

I guess it's kind of a moot point now that it is 'on hiatus' but I can't imagine it would be that much trouble to search for it once and then bookmark it for future viewings.

Limiting yourself to Youtube is pretty silly given it's a service that aggressive discourages downloading video files (yeah it's easy for nerds to do, but they are strict about third party apps and the like offering caching). Podcasts are an established medium and having to go outside my workflow to play a video that I'd listen to and only occasionally watch when things were interesting was friction. That could be the difference between being a popular podcast or one so clearly popular that it changes your career.

Also, a decent schedule and a reliable way to get info on the show (not checking four Twitter accounts, an abandoned website and a Youtube channel for shreds of spotty info) would have been nice.

But honestly I just love Norm. He could do a weekly telegram and I'd be happy. I do hope he has other plans.

No but the podcast seems to be.

It was too good to be true. Podcasting was never meant to be that entertaining, so the gods of iTunes took it away from us.

I just tweeted Adam Eget, hopefully this works:

Did anyone watch the US Open live stream? I'm wondering if something happened during that. The video is now private. I've been trying to collect all of the golf livestream videos which VPN is hiding after they finish, but the US Open one was the day before the show went on hiatus and was made private.

I wonder if Norm was simply unhappy with the circumstances of the show and just threw in the towel?

I wonder if Norm and Adam trashed the sponsors (exept Hulu, witch Norm never fucked with) because they didn't care and knew it would be over soon.

It seems like VPN was giving them a dollar budget to work with.

Norms show seems like the only original content. It seems the majority of shows are just existing podcasts that they turn a camera on occasionally.

That's all the Earwolf collaboration seems to entail.

Of course Norm may have simply taken time off to go a British casino and try to lose 15 pounds.

No clue. Going back and reading the tweets now makes it all seem pretty weird. VPN saying the show would be live, then saying Norm is under the weather, then switching to short hiatus, then the screenplay excuse/gag and now they've updated Youtube to say it's on an extended hiatus for the summer.

It looks like Norm's son was on the US Open stream: http://d.pr/i/aPfI

Pissed I can't listen to that today. I don't even like golf but I've gone back and listened to all of the live streams as they're just fun background noise.

Someone mentioned he left the US Open stream early sick. How awful would it be if he's actually ill?

From youtube: "@VideoPodcastNetwork - in all seriousness, he mentioned he woke up in a bathtub full of water....is Norm doing ok?"

That is so bizarre. Now I really want to see that missing video. I hope he's ok.

Edit: Just saw this on the GG pt. 2 episode:

There's no way the makers of something called "Mangrate" don't have a sense of humor. How are you not going to laugh at that in a comedy show?

maybe this is by design. Maybe he doesn't want to "flood" his audience. Perhaps it's the same reason why Norm doesn't do shows/stand ups all that often anymore. Either way, I hope the show does come back in two months. Every episode has been enjoyable. I've listened to episodes at the gym and sometimes a joke comes on mid rep. I must look like a dumbass laughing by myself in the middle of a press

Isn't Norm a notoriously unreliable person? I thought that was the main reason Adam Carolla replaced him as Death on Family Guy.

Did you catch that part in one of the shows where Norm talks about getting dropped by Mangrate?

He or Adam mentions that they were forbidden by Mangrate to talk about Mangrate dropping sponsorship from the show.

I guess Mangrate was so pissed that they did not want Norm ever to mention their product on the show ever again.

ahh 2 months is a long time, whatever the reason is I hope it's nothing bad. Norm is the best.

Norm's illness sounds pretty nasty. Hopefully he's feeling better-- maybe more heavier people feel the effects of illness more? I remember before I worked out and lost all of my weight I got sick way more.

Hopefully we're still getting the show in about another month or so (according to that Youtube comment anyway) I'm glad to see there's a crowd on Neogaf loving this show-- it was really too brilliant to last, so I understand if they don't wind up bringing it back

The opening to part 1 of the gilbert Godfrey episode is fucking amazing. I hope Norm's ok and that the show comes back. But really I just hope he's alright.
