This sounds like the yogscast joking around to me. Inapropriate and stupid, but it's the yogscast after all. I can kind of see why'd they want to get payed too, concidering it's fucking expensive to travel to the US and they most likely aren't millionaires like Notch. I don't think the Yogscast-guys are innocent at all, but I'll reserve jugements until they've gotten a chance to respond.

Eh...not millionaires, but you don't get to the second most subscribed channel in the UK without making some money. A round trip flight is going to run you what, $1000?

I'm going to try and not sound horrible when I say this, but the aftermath of all this (I don't know what actually happened at the event itself) is quite possibly one of the most sad and pathetic things I've seen. There's a load of "YouTube celebrities" picking sides, this Totalbiscuit guy defending the Yogscast people, saying he "got them their YouTube partnership", calling other games video-makers who sided with Notch "shitty friends", etc. Then there's the horrible interview between the two parties which is as awkward as can be. And now there's threads about it everywhere.

Who are all these people with such hugely inflated views of themselves? Notch has done something hugely impressive, granted, but people making money by recording themselves playing games (including a game that Notch made!) and then acting as if they're big-shots. Horrifically cringe-inducing.

I feel the same way about YouTube "celebrities," mainly when they just seem like they're full of themselves. I've never heard of these Yogscast guys--or even played Minecraft--but I've heard of Notch. Of course, not having heard of them and hearing about this "fiasco" makes me think they're pieces of shit, which is unfair, I know. But if they're anything like the totalbiscuit guy...ehhh. I only read a few of his tweets and already he seems awkard.

I actually don't think that's why the afterparty was a joke. It's more to do with the fact that the bouncers at the party wouldn't even let Minecon people in, instead letting in rich people, "VIPs" and women for them to hook up with. Even some Mojang staff weren't allowed in. Sounded like a massive douchefest to me, to be honest.

Off topicish, but a lot of the Let's Play people on youtube/twitch actually make enough to support themselves through their videos. Obviously they need to be partnered with someone like Machinima to do it though.

What the yogcast guys did sounds pretty bad, but I gotta wonder if some isn't just a bit of culture differences. They're Brits right? British humor can come across as pretty crude and egotistical if don't understand the whole "taking the piss" thing they love to do so often. I work with a Brit in Japan and his interactions with Japanese can be akward but hilarious.

That's what I'm thinking. Having worked with Brits, they'll try to make each other uncomfortable, only to laugh about it. The French insult one another, then kiss each other.

Yogscast have a huge fanbase too (over 1.2 million YouTube subscribers, one of the most popular channels there is), forcing their channel to be shut down over this would be an overreaction and a PR nightmare.

Well right not their show is all about Minecraft. And the creator of Minecraft has called them out. So at this point they either reconcile and apologize or they're doing a show set in a game that they may hold some animosity towards.
