Official Phil Harrison Keynote @ GDC Thread.

Littlebigplanet looks awesome. Home looks OK. I mean the graphics are really ****ing nice but it's pretty bland. I'm not biting yet.

The media sharing is a really nice touch.

I thought a lot of the wind was knocked out of sony because home details leaked early, but how f**king wrong i was.

LittleBigPlanet looks extremely good..it shot up to my most wanted this year. Home looks cool too, but I really have no desire to do any of this shit on my console...I don't want to go around talking with strangers who are probably asses anyways.

Could those TVs in HOME be used for advertisements? Or they could be used to place a 'feature game of the week' where people can just walk near it and join in multiplayer.

Definetly looks cool but ike someone said kinda worry its just gonna be second life 2.0 Heck in the video they already had guys asking where all the ladies are etc. If it follows the standard procedure it will only take a few weeks to turn uinto a cyber sex haven with 12 years olds causing trouble.

It does look great though and better then i expected.

WTF?!?!? I thought HOME was going to be simple as ****. I didn't see the video yet. Just basing this comment off of Mmmkay's pictures.

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
That Home trailer that gametrailers is hosting looks nice I didn't realize this was going to be a 3D environment I thought it was just that page somebody posted.

It's basically a 3d virtual world chat room/matchmaking service, so you can chat in public and launch directly from it to games...

Very Nice.

Home != Simple.

From the trailer, Home seems a bit unneeded in terms of its scope. Looks cool but do I think I will use it more than a few times unless I am forced to with matchmaking? No.

Being free is great news though.

Dude, you are not ready.

It's a virtual world where you can talk, chat, play games like pool, arcade games, launch other PS3 games, show off your personal pad, create public and private spaces, meet people, etc.

It's WAY more than "this is my 2x2 digital pad...there is a picture of Nariko..."

Home = the new Second Life?

Free, but they mentioned DLC like 3 times just in that clip. This could be some big money in the bank for PSN. Chair $1, Plasma $3, Artwork $5 etc...

I'M BUYING A 50" SONY BRAVIA FOR MY PS3 HOME BITCHES!!!! :D

Actually the graphics look meh to me, the functionality is what is exciting.

Media sharing with friends and customizing my own room (something i spend hours doing in the sims, only know one can see it) is really really nice.

If Sony can expand on customisation in Home then Mii's and even Animal Crossing Wii will seem pretty redundant in comparison.

I cant wait to see how Nintendo and Microsoft will react to this.

So you can design you own "home", Sims style, or go out into the world and meet up and chat (voice and text) with friends, play onine minigames that are built into it (bowling and mini-golf, etc), you can earn trophies from playing games, you can share video, music with friends that visit your house. You can group up with friends and launch online games from within it... overwhelming...

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. Announces Ground-Breaking, Next-Generation 3D Online-User Community for PLAYSTATION(R)3 - 'Home'

Free Download to Allow Broad User Interaction in Highly Detailed Community Environment; Opens Door to User-Created Content, Collaboration and Commerce

TOKYO and SAN FRANCISCO, March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced the unveiling of a first-of-its-kind 3D online user community service for the PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) computer entertainment system. The service, known as "Home," will enable users to create their own avatar and explore a real-time virtual community, as if they are playing a detailed 3D game for PS3. The service will become available globally beginning in fall 2007.

Home will be demonstrated at the Game Developer's Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California on March 7 as a key element of SCEI Worldwide Studios' President Phil Harrison's keynote presentation titled "Game 3.0: Developing and Creating for the 3rd Age of Videogames."

Home is a real-time online 3D, networked community available on the PLAYSTATION(R)Network. It allows PS3 users to interact, communicate, join online games, shop, share private content and even build and show off their own personal spaces to others in real time. Home will be available as a free download from the PLAYSTATION(R)Store and will launch directly from XMB(TM) (XrossMediaBar) on PS3.

With an avatar uniquely customized according to each user's preference, users can explore the 3D community that is Home -- a sleek, modern environment featuring spacious common areas; custom spaces dedicated to specific games; and personal apartments. Each user is assigned an apartment in Home where they can invite others to join them as they show off their own style in an area they can personalize themselves with furniture, art and other items -- even a different view from their windows. They can also show their personal video, pictures and other digital media content found on their PS3 hard drives in their apartments. Very rich interactive communication with others is achieved through built in text, audio and video chat, along with sophisticated emotional animations for each character.

Sharing continues in the "Hall of Fame," where users can display new 3D trophies that will be unlocked through in-game milestones for the games they own as well viewing the trophies of other users across the PLAYSTATION Network and for other games they've yet to purchase.

"This is a significant step forward in the area of user community services and emergent entertainment experiences," said Izumi Kawanishi, Corporate Executive and CTO Software, SCEI. "While the 3D graphics demonstrate the power of PS3 and the PLAYSTATION Network, the most impressive feature in Home is the variety of ways in which multiple consumers, as well as our third-party partners, can experience the next generation of communication by interacting and sharing among each other. I feel strongly that this unique blend of community, user-generated content, collaboration and commerce will expand the future of computer entertainment."

Home will go into a closed beta test this spring with a full launch targeted for later this year. By having a broad range of business partners participate in Home -- from 3rd party publishers and developers to brands outside traditional gaming categories -- along with a powerful selection of upcoming game software titles for PS3, SCEI will continue to expand the horizons of networked entertainment and vigorously promote PS3 as the next generation computer entertainment platform.

10:32 a.m.: It's not a Sony Keynote if it actually starts on time. Shane is actually doodling little alien-like creatures next to me. It's good that the boy's gifts are in writing, because they certainly aren't in sketching. But it does look like the alien looks like it's wearing a nice suit.

Wait, Shane just informed us that it's not an alien and is actually a loving portrait of Phil Harrison. I SAID WOW.

Kathleen: "It looks like the alien from Communion"

They are starting late... as usual :)

time for some revenge...

the sonyfanboy inside of me is happy.

but well, we don´t need to hide, after all, i´m one of the 1000 paid to say that

Viva Pinata + Super Mario Bros + photorealistic rocks = Little Big Planet.

Hopefully it'll have the depth of VP and Mario as well. And Home has the features I was expecting but looks about twenty-five times better.
