PAL Charts - Week 50, 2014

Damn, demand for Destiny, GTA and Fifa all between 80-20 and 90-10 in favour of PS4. MS needs to do something.

Wii U demand actually bigger than XBO demand for the christmas business.
There is nothing they can do. They're dead there.
Only US and UK makes sense to them.

So Microsoft went from 150% to 66% relative to Playstation in their strongest market out of the US. And their 40% european market share target out of UK is currently around 13% best case scenario.

I guess they can't be very happy so far.

2013 Actual, 2014 Estimate (forecast). Screen Digest, who have worked with ELSPA/Ukie on their reports, so 2013 figures should be Chart-Track (PS4/XB1 numbers match). Don't know how long ago they made their 2014 forecast, but it seems a bit low for current gen now (maybe too high for last gen, but hard to tell).

3DS has only outsold the Vita 4:1?

Man, I'd never have guessed it was that close.

Wii U wishes it could sell like the powerhouse Vita.

I had no idea that X360 is bigger that Wii in the UK. Also, judging from the most recent sales, their 2014 forecast appears a bit too low for XBone.

I'd have to agree. I think MS is going to throw 99% of their effort at trying to close gap and take lead in US and UK. While they do so I expect Sony to have wrapped up untouchable lead most everywhere else.

Worldwide will be all about the cumulative gap and even allowing for strong Xbox turnaround in US and UK I expect it to show a decent lead for PS4 and even a significant one if Sony can keep close to MS in US and UK.

And at the same time MS might further ruin the mindshare they have outside of the US and UK. That might not be good down the line when they gave to release another machine.

as much as we know, it is not closing the gap in UK, right? Last I remember was that for black friday (or November) weekend, they were neck to neck in UK.

This year:
950k PS4
XB1 170k

"Only" 5.6:1.

Regarding imports - I don't think that they matter much. If you directly import via amazon it should get tracked, but if e.g. MediaMarkt shifts german XB1s to a MM in another country, those consoles should not be included in the GFK consumer panel.

yeah, it's much more likely that shortages hurt the PS4's early numbers, especially when comparing the XB1 numbers to the US

Man, i thought GTA 5:Rem would do good sales-wise but not this good. Maybe it's time for me to pick it up, didn't play it the first time around and don't have anything special to play at the moment.

Tomodachi Life was supposed to flop because nobody knew how to playt this weird japanese game, remember ? And Farming Simulator 15 confirms its statue there. I'm sure the game did also well in France and UK.

The gap between the bolded is weird.

edit: so are the XB1 numbers. Are you sure about the dates?

Not weird.

First number is 9 months in Europe
Second number is 10.5 months in 5 european countries.

But if you take PS4 sales: 10,5 month of the "big 5" are only about 75% of the rest of europe and 9 month?
I don't know if this sounds right- I would have expected a higher number for the big 5, especially with a longer tracking period in the season of the year where sales quadruple.

Regarding XB1 numbers: Well, XB1 was released on 5th Sep in most countries.

According to Sony official financials PS4 shipped 9m in the period from January 1, 2014 to September 30, 2014.

So known sell-through figures (Jan - Sept):

Continental Europe: 3.44m (GFK)
US: 2.52m (NPD)
Japan: 0.73m (Media Create)

Total: 6.69m

Still missing good chunk of the full picture. Sell-through vs shipped make it very hard to tell how PS4 is selling outside these markets but if I were to guess about 15-20% of PS4 sales comes from markets that's not US/EU/JP.

The big 5 = 320Million residents
European union = 510Million
Europe as a whole is 740Million

I think you are understimating how big the sum of those smaller countries is, even when some of them are relatively poor (and others stupdly rich)

And sales don't quadruple in November in Europe.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
NZ & Australia Pokemans:

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire - With combined sales exceeding 120,000 units in the first week, this figure smashes the previous local record set by Pokémon X & Y just a year ago, which shifted over 100,000 units.

In the same week of the release of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X & Y have also become the highest selling Pokémon games in Australia and New Zealand, taking the record from Pokémon Diamond & Pearl which was released on the DS in 2007, and has sold over 330,000 units to date.

Ok, to get the biggest picture, let's combine the numbers for all of Europe from January to September 2014 and add the 2013
numbers for the biggest european markets. And if we combine this with USA, Japan and Australia we get (sell-through):

PS4: 11.200.000
XBO: 6.700.000
WiiU: 6.200.000

So, this is quite up-to-date, but obviously lacks some numbers like Canada, South America, Asia, updated australian numbers. Wii U lacks some updated european numbers to boot.

Can't we guesstimate Canada as around 10% of the US?

I was thinking the PS4 would be close too 20mil by the end of the year but that seems impossible then.

You used up to November numbers for US/Japan? Coz with up to Sept numbers I get less than 10m for PS4.

EDIT: nvm this post, i was confused

I thought the 13.5 number was shipped? Regardless, them getting to 20 million is pretty farfetched

"By comparison, Sony shipped through 13.5 million PS4 consoles to consumers by the end of October, and they hit their 10 million milestone at the end of August (again, shipped through to consumers and not merely to retail)."

all the times they announced this milestones they always were sold to consumers not shipped
http://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonev...-november-microsoft-touts-10-million-shipped/

though i agree, i dont think they will reach 20M(sold to consumers) this year i expect at the very least 17M by the end of the year imo(sold to consumers)

didnt we know that sony had sold 13.5M consoles by september though ?

http://www.ibtimes.com/ps4-vs-xbox-one-sales-sony-135-million-microsoft-remains-silent-1716937

or are those numbers just europe? ^^ (~11M)

13.5 is WW shipped as of Sept 30.

Forbes writer don't know what he talking about. The source of the figure is Sony official IR site and their numbers are always shipped. Here is an official infograph from Sony showing that the figure is shipped.
