Heh, yeah I'm personally going for the 8GB card for the reasons you stated. I was just pointing out that price per gigabyte is by no means an acceptable indicator of value. It was really his comment that the 32GB memory card is a good deal that enticed me to reply. While it's pretty hard to rationalize $100 for 32 GB, I think it's somewhat ridiculous to go for the stand alone 4 GB over the 8 GB unless you don't intend to take digital distribution seriously or you're using it as a dummy card for switching to another account (IF a reformat is absolutely necessary). Just $10 more doubles the amount of memory and ensures something like Uncharted doesn't hog the whole thing (though even with 32 GB that's big enough I'd rather get a physical copy).
I'm doing that. I've seen multiple people comment on the rear touch pad getting scratched really easily. It'll cost like five bucks, but it'll ensure that the system looks pristine. I mean, why not?Is anyone going to put protective film on the back touch panel?
I am thinking of getting one but not sure if they have any film specifically for the back side..
do you think the sony vita film (the one that comes in 2 pack) would work for the back touch panel?
The PSP can play Monster Hunter... at a much lower price than the Vita. Throw in the cost of the UMD drive add-on on top of it, and you'll have solved nothing.
downloadable and part of the UMD passport scheme. I switched over to digital once it became available (though 3rd was really just sitting on a shelf - i didn't get round to playing it until late last year)
Any ads for the vita out yet? i thought they might do one for superbowl
Has PS2 compatibility ever even been mentioned?
Didn't see this posted:
Vita will get a new FW-Update at 8th february, which will add Video-Support for the camera-app and add a new map-app.
Also the content manager will get a mac version.

In their native state, the Vita will never be able to run PS2 games. It's just nowhere near powerful enough.
Why is this? Seems close enough to the PS2 480i resolution, and the polys. What, are they using NURBs again?

Because you have to be significantly more powerful than what you are emulating. You can't just match the PS2 hardware-wise. It's quite a bit more powerful than the PS2, but not enough to emulate PS2 games.

From what I've heard, it's pretty terrible. Hopefully they'll improve it significantly.
Curious as to the cost. Please tell.
Clever lampoon on the peripheral. Mine is prettier though, spent more time in Photoshop than you did.

not only that the way the hardware was designed makes it harder to do straight up emulation, if it was easy Sony would nit have taken it ou of ps3 because the cost wouldnt be that high. If vita ever plays ps2 games it would have to be games modified like the ps2 classics on psn.
hehe, well, joking aside i think that's partly the reason we'll never see an official PSP add on drive. The PSP as a secondary back up unit is an awesome offer. My "Games Bag Of awesome" contains a CFW PSP and a DS because they just offer huge libraries with great battery life. They're the warhorse machines for on the go.
I haven't really seen ANY marketing for the thing. It's ridiculous.
Hey guys.
From Kojima's Twitter. The paper in the photo seems to be a script for new Vita-specific dialogue.
Are you able to use group voice chat while playing psp titles?
I repeatedly contend they could have continued making a higher-priced SKU PS3 with PS2 compatibility on board. I'd pay the difference for it, so would tons of other people..
so much for sony stating that they're concentrating on the vita. i mean if last year has taught sony anything is that an insane marketing campaign sells just about anything. Look at x360 shipping most consoles ever thanks to kinect push and buying marketing rights for multiplats. Also look at U3 selling the most copies of the franchise thanks to the insane promotions and marketing.
From the MGS HD thread just in case anyone misses it
truly Sony would surmount this issue on Vita, for me.
Is there a release date for this? I wanna play this on my vita as soon as possible.
This statement is contrary to sales history.
Given that's the UMD capable model, and given the vast hugeness of the PSP UMD library i've a feeling Sony want to ride the PSP a little more because i'm sure they are making crazy bank on each unit sold.
It's in the import section since it will be available a week before the western launch. Why is Good People Die labeled as a Japanese launch title? It isn't even out in Japan. Shin Kamaitachi no Yoru, the blue silhouette VN from Chunsoft, was the launch game.
The OP is pretty crowded as it is. I think it's better to keep the themes in a thread of their own. I'll definitely link to it though. Will have more come launch...though Archnemesis do you have space to add themes for early adopters to that obscene OP?
The Vita isn't a Kinect though, it's current game lineup and price are aimed at the enthusiast market not the casual one. A Kinect size campaign would be a total waste of money at this point in the system's life, it just doesn't have that mass market appeal.

OMG its kerrby!! no release date yet, sorry... Im personally waiting for ZOE
Okay. Maybe select other people. I have empirical data only, games journalists raving about how much they love their original 60 GB and hope it doesn't YLOD, some folks in threads agreeing with me.
The increase of sales at a $299 price point does not necessarily mean there was no market for a higher end SKU with BC. Since they were never offered simultaneously, neither of us really has any proof, right?
Still, PS2 classics are emulated, but only if they are repurchased. Perhaps a PS2 transfer program is on the way?
Any idea what games are coming out later this year? I'm not going to get one at launch because I'm just not interested in any of the launch lineup. All the good games on it are ports of games I already own on PS3.
to be honest, i don't have a clue about in America , but in Japan i don't think they particularly see a problem with the PSP selling great guns at 16,000 yen a unit.

At the moment i doubt full B/C is that big of a determining factor for Vita buyers at the current price point.
There is arguably also a market for a 400 disk blu ray autochanger with a PS3 built in also. But if that market is not big enough to pay for the development and production costs then it doesn't happen.
i agree the target markets differ entirely but having no promotions and ads whatsoever really seems a bit ridiculous even if only aimed at hardcore market. once again i would point to uncharted 3, the campaign they had for that game was one of the best Sony has done and it showed with brilliant sales.
I think they need to have ads showing Golden Abyss, Fifa, Wipeout and Gravity Daze to show people there's a new machine in town that can do all of these cool things.
I never said they shouldn't increase their advertising, just that a Kinect size campaign would be overkill. And I'm confident the ads will come, were still a little over 2 weeks away from the "real" launch date. Just give em time.
To be honest I think getting demo units out wherever they can is probably the best way to advertise the thing anyways. There have been tons of people in previous threads saying how impressed they were with it once they actually saw it, and I think that's really going to be the key to getting the word out. It's a lot like the 3DS in that way.
The browser itself isn't bad, but HTML5 and Flash don't work yet, so no Youtube.
Is the Netflix App still supposed to be up and running day one?
i agree that having the units in game shops is actually probably the best thing they can do for the console (that's what got me to preorder a 3DS last year for example) i think those ads need to come so that people know to go to their game stores and try it out.
You're right though, we're still 2 weeks away, I just thought that we'd see a Superbowl ad that would start off the campaign. But I guess Sony thought that since the Xperia Play ad didn't do much it would be a waste of money
I preordered my PlayStation Vita today.
I got the wi-fi only system with Wipeout 2048 to start with. Of course you get a free 8GB memory card if you preorder with Amazon.
I'm not sure if I should spend the extra £15 on Lumines Electronic Symphony. I have never played a Lumines game before.
I'm not going to spend the extra £15 on Rayman Origins because I already have it on Xbox 360. I don't see any better alternatives for the extra £15 game.
Also, I will get Uncharted at a later date.
This will be the first time I've bought a gaming system at launch since the Nintendo Wii on 8 December, 2006.
Well I'm getting a decent tax return in a few weeks, so while I may not be there at launch, I'll have a Vita probably by the end of the month. Wipeout, here I come.
