PlayStation VR Launch Thread: Welcome to The Real World

Sad to say but likely going to return mine with no desire for a replacement. I have left drift, screen pulse (back and forth) and controller tracking issues. Man... if only the tracking quality was in-line with the Vive this thing would be great. :/

The extension cable came in yesterday, and it looks like placing the camera on my desk did the trick: I was able to play Batman with no issues (also worked up a sweat doing the target practice, making sure I was posing like an idiot with every throw), and I didn't have to adjust it when switching to Until Dawn.

The only issue left is the jitter I get from some games: What's the term for it? It's the thing where the virtual controller or HUD that's below you is moving up and down on its own (it plagued Giant Bomb like crazy, but hasn't been quite as extreme for me)? Has there been any working methods to reduce/eliminate it?

Also, is Battlezone generally accepted as the most nausea-inducing VR game? I barely played half an hour and felt like shit for an hour afterwards. The 180 degree turns really did a number on me.

Nope, that would be Driveclub VR, I can't play that yet

In Battlezone they have fine-tuned the acceleration to minimise nausea, I have no issues. Just take it easy and try not to strafe or spin on the spot too much

Can any of the Move compatible games be played with a single Move controller or a Move + navigation controller combo, or do they all require dual Moves?

I actually started Batman using only one Move controller before picking up my second. I think you can play through it with just one. I don't recall a situation that required two.

Ugh, this just makes me super jealous.

How far back do y'all play from? My wobble/worbble issue goes away at 3 feet or less. But that means grabbing a chair from my dining room whenever I want to play :-/

Also, no matter where I sit, the controller tracking is terrible in nearly everything (haven't tried move yet). And if the controller is brought past my face, the entire image will momentarily shift around.

Fuck it, I'll ride it out. Maybe Sony releases a camera FW to fix it.

people should post pics of their set ups to see if we have commonalities. I sit around 6 to 8 feet away and i have 0 drifting or tracking issues.

Tracking was great for me first night, second night my controller kept drifting. I moved the camera a little higher, moved my self a little forward. Was probably the reason why. Also had some lights on last night.

Tumble demo is super annoying with slightly off tracking. No matter where I moved the controller, it would always, after a second, glow red and make annoying noises.

A bit of an update: I think I may have got it sorted! I went through the PS troubleshooting site, and they literally tell you to try turning it off and on — i.e., powering down your PS4 completely, unplugging it for a minute or two, and then trying it again. I did that and so far Job Simulator and Batman are working correctly.

If anyone else is having tracking issues and hasn't tried this yet, this guide might be helpful. One tip: when you go through the guide, it will ask you about adjusting the camera; when it asks, "is it level and stable," say "no" — otherwise it will just assume you've fixed the problem, even if you haven't.

Whats going on with the UK pricing of the PS Move controllers?!!? Just saw on Game that they are listed at £109!!!! This is for something thats 4+ years old. It's like the PS Vita memory cards all over again. They should be getting as many of these into peoples houses as possible.

That's a reseller gouging people, not the RRP, admittedly the RRP is too high considering the age of the items, it's the same as it was previously when they launched. Best thing would have been to purchase them when there was a dip before the launch.

So what are you guys using to clean the lenses, the provided cloth just basically moves the smudges around. I have eye glass cleaner that is supposed to not affect lens coatings or could just moisten the towel a bit, curious to see what others are doing before I do it.

I've purchased these which work great - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IKGH2TI/

also bought these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BKX0RSQ/ for the area in and around the lens

Lethal VR is the next game from the creators of Burnout

Three Fields Entertainment has announced its next game: Lethal VR.

Three Fields is the studio created by Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry, both of whom worked at Burnout developer Criterion.

Its first game was the arcade smash 'em up Dangerous Golf. Its second is Lethal VR, which is set for release on Steam and PS VR and published by Team17.

Lethal VR is described as a fast action arcade shooter inspired by classic arcade gun games from the past.

You assume the role of an FBI recruit who is being assessed. Point Break, Robocop and The Man with the Golden Gun are all cited as reference points.

It's built for the HTC Vive, and it'll be out on that platform on 8th November, but a PS VR version will be available before the end of 2016.

If its anywhere near as fun as the shooting gallery in London Heist I am in.

Good choice! Was thinking about Battlezone or Rigs... got Rigs never looked back, great game! Thinking about Until Dawn too because I really love the demo!

If you liked the demo of Blood Rush, get the full game. The demo level is the tamest level and the game only gets better. There are branching paths and leaderboards in the full game as well.

I found out one of the VR negatives last night.

I didn't get home until almost 10 and it had been a long day and I was tired. In real life, lights had started getting bloom around them a little bit.

I tried to do some VR stuff and it was just to hard on my eyes. They were too tired. Traditional gaming on the TV was no problem.

I still got a little VR in.

I played two NHL 17 online matches. My first gaming in cinematic mode. It was cool. I had to go to the middle screen size, the biggest was too big. I don't think it is my "preferred" way to play, or maybe I am just not used to it, and as said above, my eyes were tired.

I played like 10 minutes of VEV. Very cool visually, I had trouble finding the things I'm supposed to absorb tho. I have to give it more time a figure it out.

I finally watched Alumette. Very very cool. Beautiful and sad as well.

I have been kind of meh about this experience outside of maybe Thumper so far.

However, then I played games where I use double-Move controllers. Total immersion. I need more.

If you can be bothered making a Hong Kong account, their demo disc has 3 twin Move game demos our discs don't have, each a bit different (bow & arrow, twin guns, and umm magic hands god game thing lol).

Old Camera (below TV)

Drift when sitting about 11-12ft from camera
Perfect when about 5-6ft away from camera

5' - 6' is optimal. 11' - 12' is way beyond the range, the game play area extends only to 9'-something (which would be max. reach from a 6' playing distance).

I think my living space might be a tad too small for PSVR, played Allumette today and standing up, just slightly leaning forward; basically my default position = I'm out of play area. I think I need to push back the tv, and cameras so that I free up some distance (albeit not much). Ended up crouching on the couch with knees bent to play the game. Tumble continues to shit me. Not even sure why its buggy AF now with the drift. Games need to have a setting to allow you to set your 3D space position.

Allumette (needs to have an option to skip forward in the story), got bored and stopped it but before I did, I checked to see if I could go to a timestamp but it wasn't there :/ Its a good software to test the rendering resolution of the PSVR + PS4 for VR (AA+Sampling). It's not the best looking game when viewed far but when you lean into the little people and stare right up at them, the visuals are pretty fucking great (you can see their eyes and faces, and the detail is incredible and it looks pretty damn good) and makes me wonder what PS4pro visuals on the PSVR will be like.

Damn I am so conflicted now. Originally I was going to just get the Pro, then I convinced myself to get the PSVR, and now after seeing the Nintendo Switch thing, I am tempted to get that first :/

Tumble and Rez both can optionally use just one Move controller. So far nothing uses the Nav controller.

should just add this before I forget:

will be buying all future PSVR games digitally. Wearing the headset and swapping discs = nope. Also, Super hypercube should be cheaper now that I've spent more time with it. $15-20 Not $30.

that's coming in 5 months.

Sorry if already posted

They're both pretty positive on it. Very reasonable review.

Ugh, just had my second case of drift. Didn't really encounter it until recently. I'm not sure what changed. The first instance was in Playroom VR while playing with the UFO catcher. The second was in Battlezone. Interestingly, it was flawless in the demo, but the full game showed it. The worst part about the drift is there's no way to reset the position.

I know that moment when you're in the hangar after being loaded into your machine was one of those moments that made me say "Wow." as I looked at the robotics surrounding me.

That moment was the first thing you see after you press x in the start menu and all the mechs start running at you from diffferent angles. :)

Thanks for the feedback. :) I promise it does get clearer as you play.

One thing that seemed a little off putting was that there seems to be no visual or audio feedback when you get hit by enemies and lose energy? Unless I missed something.

For clarity - when it talked about "cross-absorbing" or whatever, does that just mean I get a bonus for waiting until there are multiple spheres on me before absorbing them?

Again, I was very tired so I may have missed stuff very obvious. Can't wait to try it again, just on visuals alone, $5 is a steal.

Both are awesome, but the true Wow! moment is the little MVP model on the plane. And looking out the window.

You had me at "Classic Arcade gun games."

Also, did I see an "Alley of Hogan" sign? LOL

HELL YES!

I want all the old great light gun games ported. Virtua Cop and Time Crisis and HotD.

If putting you IN the game is too much work or messes up the game, at least like a virtual light gun arcade where I can play them on big virtual screens.

PLEASE.

I mean, it just seems way more widespread than I expected from the preview coverage. And you may not have had tracking issues, but you have had drift issues.

Just makes it hard to buy in - I've been obsessively reading this thread since launch. Yest I walked into a best buy and had a core headset in my hands, ready to go, and couldn't pull the trigger. Just not knowing if it will work perfectly is super frustrating.
Ever heard of a vocal minorety? People with out problems usually don't write about it.. it's more common that people with problems or issues are much quicker to write about it than people writing about the good experience they have.. not saying this, to say that there is not a problem and I hope that people will get it resolved :)

Finally got around to getting this set up last night, and played a few things off the demo disc and Worlds.

I generally like the headset a lot. It's comfortable, the screen door effect is pretty minimal, and overall it's a nice piece of hardware. My only real problem is that there's a bit too much light leak around the edges (I'm willing to concede more adjustment might fix this, but where it feel comfortable lets light in around the sides).

The real problem I have so far is tracking. I've played a lot of Vive games, and I've had a few tracking issues with the controllers (never the headset), but it's relatively rare, and the vast majority of the time, they're rock solid. Here, the controllers are flaky the majority of the time. Yeah, they're usable, but if you go from the Vive to this, the fidelity drop is really noticeable. To be clear, I'm not talking about them getting way off, I'm talking about the jitter I've seen a lot of people mention. You can still control things, but going from the very precise tracking of the Vive, it's jarring.

The headset tracking issues are smaller, but almost worse. During one part of the London Heist (the desk shootout), the whole thing just started pulsing back and forth in front of me, which was really unpleasant.

I know why they went with this tracking solution, but boy does it feel like a step down from the other sets on the market.

Also, before you get to the shooting, London Heist is sort of bad. The interrogation scenes are silly because you're disembodied hands, and the meeting in the bar is weird because it lets you pick up all this stuff, but no one responds to anything you do with it. The shooting stuff is well conceived, though.

On the other hand, the lineup is interesting, and I have a bunch more stuff I want to take a look at. I suspect the tracking issues will be less noticeable with games where you're moving more often, since it's a relatively small wobble. Also, I'm just glad to see more companies involved with this stuff, and it's definitely a more consumer friendly version of this technology.

One last minor annoyance (not really VR related): they let you play parts of Worlds while the rest is installing, but it screws up the experience. The sound kept dropping out while I was doing the "Shark Encounter". It was fine after the install was complete (once the disk stopped spinning), but it's a bummer for the first experience with the hardware.

Is anyone else's view with the headset crooked? I don't really notice it during gameplay, but any time I'm in the PS4's main menu or open the PS button menu, it looks like they're rotated about five degrees clockwise instead of being level. It's really annoying.

All the sudden I'm having this issue...

My VR Processor box won't go into rest mode. It doesn't matter if I turn my whole PS4 off, My VR headset etc. It's always a white light now and the red light I was getting before only comes on when I unplug the cord out of the back of the unit :|

Not sure how to fix this or why it's happening.

Anyone else here have this issue?

Seems some people are having this problem, but can't find a fix

Had it the first day. I unplugged the powercord of the PU while the ps4 was running and it fixed itself. Yeah you *should* not do this but for me it helped ^^

Only nausea experience so far has been using Hulk mode in Sportsbar VR. really unsettling, Luckily you can transport so be careful when using Hulk mode.

Take care when putting the headset on and also make sure your camera is leveled. That should not be the case.

is there anything downloading in the background? My box would not shut off while I had a download or something waiting to DL.

Just tried that and it didn't work for me :| So odd. It doesn't even shut off when my PS4 is off.

It never goes into rest mode ugh Only time I can get it red is if I turn off everything, unplug the cord and plug it into my PS4 when it's off.
