I'm glad someone in here recommended Mysterious Universe. Just started it and really been enjoying it.
In the next couple of days I am going to check this out.I just started a new podcast about legal and business issues in the board game and video game industries. It's called Legal Moves, and it is based on a segment I had been doing on a popular board gaming podcast over the last year. There's a site up now. Recording episode 2 in an hour or so, and it'll be up by Wednesday.

Has anybody started a podcast before? What did you use to host your media? I'm thinking about using Soundcloud.
What's wrong with the Soundcloud basic service?Soundcloud is junk if you don't pay to use their unlimited service and they're already a so-so music playing service.
Archive.org is a free option and their speeds are decent enough for beginning podcasts to deal with. It's got unlimited storage, extremely hands-off in content scanning, and direct linking.
Pair that with a free Wordpress.com site, Feedburner to roll an RSS feed, and PodTrac to get analytics and you've got 90% of Soundcloud's podcasting features for free. Hell, you can get away without PodTrac and still get a subscriber count from FeedBurner.

Any recommendations for [a podcast app] for someone stuck in iOS 7.1.2? The default podcast app sucks so much ass..

I help out with DiamondClub.tv, an association of live streamed, independent podcasts. We're an open community with a live chat room and a hub of live channels and reruns.
I highly recommend joining the church of Wittertainment.
Hello to Jason Isaacs!
Legacy Music Hour is awesome.
Legacy Music Hour is awesome. I'd definitely recommend it. If you like it, check out Top Score as well - it's like LMH but it's run by a branch of NPR and centers more on the music/theory aspect of it. The host is great.
Turbo Game Club is a fun one. It's a game-of-the-month club podcast. It starts out rough, but really picks up. The Lion King, Earthbound, Beyond Good & Evil, and the Music ones are my favorite.
Just wanted to pop in again and say, yes, Legacy Music Hour is so completely awesome . Just a straight hour of game music with no interruptions or hosts talking endlessly. It's just what I've wanted for a gaming music podcast! Not that I dislike VGMpire (they're still gonna be on the rotation), I like what they do too, just that Legacy Music Hour's closer to what I was originally looking for. I'm gonna download their whole backlog when I get home today (I only do that with podcasts I reeeeally love, Retronauts was the only other one thus far).
Anyone that likes gaming music has to give this one a go.
I'm using Buzzsprout. I went over the free time limit, though, and just paid them. Next month I'll be more careful.Has anybody started a podcast before? What did you use to host your media? I'm thinking about using Soundcloud.

Thank you for these posts. I have been looking for more podcasts with video game music.
I listened to a few episodes of Super Marcato Bros. Video Game Music Podcast, they are good, and bring some great music. I have also tried Sound of Play. But they seem to talk a lot.
I've gone through 26 episodes of Sword and Scale and I'm torn on it. There aren't too many shows that get as in-depth as they do into the world of True Crime, which I appreciate. That said, there's something a little creepy about how the material is presented. It's a little cynical and leans too much towards entertaining. It's an odd feeling. There are times when I really disagree with some of the commentary that the host/narrator intrudes with as they present audio from 911 calls or police interrogations. They'll offer odd observations or even off-handed jokes meant to pass judgment.
There is some DARK freaking subject matter on this podcast. One really disturbing episode about a supposedly christian puppeteer that was actually a cannibal pedophile was too much for me to listen to. They try to re-enact transcripts with computer-generated voices to tell the story, but then in the VERY NEXT EPISODE as the narrator is congratulating himself on how he approached the material, he jokes with a friend about the same material in a way that I had to turn the radio off.
Top Score has a few less-interesting episodes, but then there are some that are just amazing. My favorites were with the composers of Halo, Diablo/Torchlight, and then my all time favorite was the one with the composer of Ori & the Blind Forest.Mini-update: I do enjoy NPR's 'Story of the Day' overall, but it's sort of hard to recommend them as podcast material. The episodes rarely go above 5 minutes long, but they do update everyday and all that. But, they are more like radio snippets (er, I guess not like, they *are*) than actual podcasts. Also I think I like Top Score, but I can't tell. It's interesting, at least. It'll stay on the rotation for now, haha.
You gotta be joking! I think I sound like a Muppet!
But thanks so much. I use an audio-technica atr2100 USB. Works pretty well!

Anyway, I recommend the podcast for people that want something that tackles true crime with a sort of morbid fearlessness. That said, the host seems like the type of person that one might expect would be borne from chasing this type of material for years. A sort of dispassionate cynical, borderline asshole personality that tackles material most won't touch. CRIMINAL is an alternative podcast with a much lighter touch that might appeal to some, too.
LORE is fun if you're into horror and legend. The narrator has a fantastic voice and seems a great writer, so the episodes are highly entertaining (i've not read his novels yet). So far the Werewolf episode is the best.
The NPR block of podcasts are all exceptional: Serial, This American Life, Planet Money (which doesn't get nearly enough love), Invisibilia (still finding its voice), Mystery Show, and Snap Judgment.
REVEAL, the social conscious podcast about social justice is solid and a natural fit for those that enjoy This American Life when it centers around inner city topics. APM Marketplace is hard financial news told narratively, which is awesome. It's what I modeled my old, failed, gaming podcast around and is definitely worth a listen.
REPLY ALL, and offshoot of TLR podcast, is REALLY hit or miss. The Start-Up podcast is unfocused and tough to listen to in Season Two.
...just going through the huge list of podcast I listen to on a regular basis...
You don't sound like a muppet at all. You're just not used to hearing your own voice from an external source. It's okay, everyone dislikes their own voice at first. Over time you'll learn to listen to it with an objective ear. You might even start to appreciate it!
I've never had any experience with dynamic microphones such as your ATR2100 (mine is a condenser mic, much better for vocal clarity and accuracy but much more sensitive), but I know they're good at suppressing background noise, and I don't hear any when you speak. What's your recording environment?
Thanks!
I just record in whatever room I'm in. Nothing special. I run everything through auphonic.com, which helps normalize and remove background noise.
You're welcome!
Didn't know about auphonic.com. I may give it a try, though I suppose Audacity will work better if you know what you're doing. It's quite the useful tool, even though it's free.
Thought of another one to mention quick since I don't think many people have heard it.
The Twilight Highlight Zone. A couple of Game Informer editors took it upon themselves to watch every episode of the original Twilight Zone series. They're about 30-40 minutes on average and they cover a handful of episodes in each one while also rating them. At the end of each season they held an awards episode where they would dole out stupid made-up awards for different episodes or characters.
I will admit though, it is kind of a pain to find all of their episodes since iTunes doesn't seem to have all of them on their page, though it could just be my inexperience with iTunes. You can definitely find them all for download still though on the GI website, this link to one of their last episodes includes links to every episode they did as well.
It's really a fun one to listen to. I've never watched the Twilight Zone, but I've listened to that whole podcast multiple times now and feel like I know all about that show.
OP, you should totally add You Made It Weird to the comedy section. Pete Holmes is not only a hilarious comic, but he's very insightful. I've learned a lot about how to approach life from his podcast. Definitely worth a listen IMO.

Hey Guys,
I actually recently started my first podcast and the first episode has just gone live on iTunes. It is a gaming podcast with a similar theme to the one used in the BBC show "Desert Island Discs", it centers around my guests choosing what eight games would they take with them to a deserted island, if they could only play those games for the rest of their days.
It is called - "Final Games" and my first episode features Pete Donaldson one of the members of the popular Soccer podcast "Football Ramble".
Please let me know what you think, feedback would be great! If you liked it please feel free to share it around Thanks for listening.
