Project CARS: Full car list revealed - 65 cars included on-disc, 9 to download

Yeah not a great list, but as someone who always preferred more tracks over more cars I don't really mind it at all.

And lets not look down on GT/Forza and call them lol simcade simply because they're more popular and have more cars. Try driving a classic SLS with comfort tires on Nordschleife with G25 and full simulation setting/all assist off and then come back and say its a simcade with a straight face.

LOL.

I can get the complaints about the car list, I get that, I really do, but this post, man, this post takes the biscuit........

I'm only commenting on what I saw. The guy was using a controller, with very twitchy controls, maybe that affected the handling?

Uhh, I was genuinely interested in the game, including hyping the game to friends who like racing games.
I followed the games development but never felt the need to search for a car list. I just assumed a game that had been in development so long, with open feedback etc was going to be impressive right out of the gate.

But this car list really killed my interest. There's no doubt some impressive cars there, but it's hard to argue that there aren't massive gaps in the list too.

Sounds to me like you only ever had a passing interest at best. This game was, is, and always will be so much more than a car list - it's intention is to provide a deep, immersive and authentic motorsports experience. If the current vehicle selection makes you negatively prejudge your whole future involvement with the game then I'd hazard it was never really for you in the first place. Be happy - it looks like you just saved yourself the price of a game.

Yes I'm being facetious, but come on..!.

Speaking of Nissan, has there ever been game that featured the HR31 GTS-R race car?

Car list looks great to me, no complaints here. The most important thing is the amount of tracks, IMO, and they've delivered on that too.

Looking forward to the release.

Considering the brilliant overall reaction to this thread, I wish iRacing decides to develop a console version just to see the meltdowns on GAF about cars available, subscription model and DLC plans.

Let's hope the Codemasters F1 2015 car list thread is filled with posts about not having my favorite Chevy, Toyota, Nissan as well.

Think I'm gonna skip it. Not enough variety in cars considering you can have 30 plus cars on the grid that's half the cars in the whole game.

Love this post. Can't wait for F1 cars, LMP1 cars, Renault Clio's on the same track at the same time just like in real life.

I wouldn't have called it a passing interest. In the absence of a decent PC to try it, I was devouring trailers and gameplay videos. I just assumed that it would have more cars or more variety to offer as it was still in development.

I get what it's trying to do, but there definitely should have been more cars on offer.

I find the number of cars on offer acceptable to be quite honest.

It is a full £10 cheaper to purchase than the majority so content should reflect that. Plus dlc surely is on the cards.

Having used a pad for Project CARS briefly, out of the box, it handles like dog shit imo.
I've played it with a pad for 3 years and strongly disagree. That said, out of the box there are 3 different controller modes (setups with their own algorithms etc.) and I prefer the second, not the 1st which the default one. I really, really recommend going down the bottom of the pad setup to try the different controller modes (I don't think they should be at the bottom of the menu.

I guess I'm in the minority that a smaller batch of cars is more appealing.

I respect the developer's pedigree and to me, the game design and physics/handling is much more important than having hundreds of cars. Sure that would be nice to have as well, but for this type of game, it seems odd that anyone would dismiss it just because X car is missing. I can partially understand concerns over the sheer volume or value for money aspect, but don't really get the attachment to one particular car over others. A lot of the models missing are in plenty of other racing games. If the point is that people expect this particular game to have 'their' particular car...shouldn't the quality of the game be enough?

I don't like that you have to pay quite a lot extra for the limited edition to get the extra car pack. I'll probably stick with the normal version and wait until the cars on sale as add-ons.

Are you in the EU? Preorder the standard digital version and you'll get the five LE cars thrown in, along with the three preorder cars and events. By using a prepaid code from CD keys (or similar) to add credit to your account it can actually work out cheaper than buying the disc.

Yeah, no go. The thing is PS Store page in my country (Poland) lists only standard three pre-order cars and doesn't say anything about getting the limited version stuff. I'd also prefer a retail copy. :)
I may end up holding off a few weeks since my backlog is big enough as it is. :D

It has a good selection of UK cars and tracks - im happy.

Everyone complaining about the lack of cars - you're looking at the game from the wrong perspective.

should we be looking at it from the "less choice is good" perspective?

No we should be looking at if the list of cars available suits the scope of the game. The less or more argument is completely irrelevant. If this was a V8 Supercar championship game why ask for a F1 car in the game? If it was a Le Mans 24H only game, why ask for a V8 Supercar?

Nobody complains about F1 games not having a Fiat Punto because the scope of the game is limited to F1. In Project CARS the scope for the game is motorsport racing not Sunday Reasonably Cheap Car Cup events. Some cars simply doesn't fit or add anything to a game that intends to be a motorsport racer. If people want to be taken seriously then complain about the racing cars lacking from the list like DTM, V8 Supercars etc.

This thread proves the reason why Polyphony Digital keeps those standard cars on GT games, because people care more about the numbers than the actual content in the game. There is nothing wrong in people wanting to drive their favorite cars in a car game and fortunately the market still has options that allow that fantasy to happen. But what some people need to realize is that Project CARS isn't the game that is made to allow those fantasies to come true.

Like someone already said let's hope Project CARS fills the huge void in console racing games of a game that is focused purely on racing and mastering a particular car to achieve great results. While I still love trying and jumping from car to car in Forza/GT, there is nothing like mastering a particular car via constant testing and tweaking like I did in Grand Prix 2 back in the day. And yes that game only had 1 unique car in the game.

And why not? Honda Civic is present in WTCC.

I'm ok with the car list specially because GT is one of may favourite racing classes, but I do miss some manufacturers/racing cars.

Everybody has a suggestion of what car should be in PCars, the reality is the developers had finite resources.

The cars that have been chosen, have been chosen to represent the series and events that you can see every weekend in Britain.

It's a motorsport simulator, pure and simple.

I don't mind the small list, but no Lambos is rough. Would be better if the small list didn't have several turds that no one wants to drive.

More choices are bad?

I don't think anyone has said that, but you got to understand and appreciate why those cars that are present are on the car list, and others aren't.

I said before, I don't think mainstream media and console gamers will "get" this game, and this thread just reinforces that thinking.

Obviously I'd like to have more cars, but the list is okay.
Given any fixed amount of development time I'd rather have it spent on making lots of tracks than lots of cars. I probably only try 5-10% of the cars in Forza before I get bored of the limited track selection.

I would like to see more motorsport variants of common cars in the DLC, but this is obviously not a Forza/GT-style game where you can customise several variants of every reasonably priced hot-hatchback.

I find it weird that you won't call 65 cars in a sim racer low, but you've said 50 cars in arcade racer Driveclub is tiny.

Because pCARS has 74, not 65. Driveclub's is tiny because it's an arcade racer, it's not focusing on a narrow class of cars, it plays more like the GT/Forza kind without a actual racing career kind of progression. It "allows" road cars of absolutely any kind but it only had 50 of them to start with.

Honda Civics in BTCC have been fantastic and have been winning championships!
Honda in WTCC this year have started strongly.
imagine if we had SuperGT cars!!!!

I don't think people realise the licensing processes behind these things.

It's not just as simple as saying "hey Honda, we're putting your car in our game"

I've got the BETA on PC and it has a few cars not on that list, strange it's not in the retail version (Edit, the models are still WIP, makes sense now!):

Here's an article stating the game would contain 11 Ford cars:
http://www.wmdportal.com/projectnews/eleven-fords-to-be-included-in-project-cars/

1966 Mustang 2+2 fastback (foundation trade dress for 1966 Shelby GT350)
1967 Ford MK IV
1972 Escort RS1600
1980 Capri (Group 5 – Team Zakspeed)
1988 Sierra RS500 Cosworth (Group A)
1997 Mustang Cobra (SCCA Trans-Am)
2012 Fusion NASCAR Stock Car
2012 Focus ST
2012 Focus ST (BTCC)
2013 Falcon FG (Australian V8 Supercar Car of the Future)
2013 Ford Shelby GT500

tldr; They've got tons of cars coming guys. Probably DLC though :-(
Disappointed no Holden Commodore or others

More choices are bad?

So out of GT's 1000+ cars, how many have you mastered? (i.e consistent lap times over 10/20 laps)

Pcars will be all about picking a discipline and mastering it over a season (or more), not hopping in and out of cars every 5 minutes.

For a serious motorsport fan (like myself) the car selection is plenty.

Yes, there are games with more cars, but more isn't always better...

Great car list. Dont need hundreds of daily drivers. Pcars tracklist shows development focus in the right area IMO.

The thing about racing games like Project CARS is that if you really get into them like a lot of sim fanatics do, you can spend solid hours driving a single car and learning everything about it, tweaking set up and exploring how balanced the cars in in low, mid and high speed turns - and that's before you're even start a race.

If you're playing a championship with GT3 cars, for example, you're going to spend possibly weeks testing, practicing, qualifying and racing before moving on to the next round and doing it all over again.

With games like GT, Forza and DriveClub, races tend to be only a few laps or minutes long and there's more emphasis on just jumping into the race, winning, and then moving onto the next one. Which is absolutely fine and is what the vast majority of gamers want to do.

Great post. I'm very happy with the starting car list. Like my trend in other games, I'll probably stick to about about 10-15 cars at the most, with the bulk of my time in GT3.

This game's career sounds like everything I've wanted in motorsport sim.

Forza 5 has all those. Facts are important.
You know what Forza does a lousy job at simulating? Motorsports. Period.
I've harped on it for years, their use of licenses and the breakdown of R Class cars just don't quite fit the bill. It's impossible to sim a real life series with the proper cars from the same year on the official tracks. ALMS license, Aussie V8s, FIA GT, Super GT, ok great. But you only get a smattering of cars from different years, and random tracks.

Remember that awesome 24hr LeMans race where Audi fought off those Indy cars at the end? Yeah, neither do I. You end up with cars that would never ever race each other in real life on tracks they have no business being on. Great for a hypothetical what if, but a far cry for a motorsports fan.

I want some Motorsport racing that makes sense.

And that's not even bringing in pit box strategy or other things it's missing, like practice and qualifying. Great games, and I enjoy them, but poor for recreating actual motorsports.

Love this post. Can't wait for F1 cars, LMP1 cars, Renault Clio's on the same track at the same time just like in real life.
Bingo.

Pcars tracklist shows development focus in the right area IMO.
Completely agreed.
