Proprietary format. I think it is also a way for sony so make back hardware costs for the system.

In 2005 it was $50 for a 256mb memory stick duo. The prices will normalize in the future like they did before.

Yeah, that's what I never got. Maybe I just don't understand the costs of making these cards, but I think if Sony wanted to rake in some money they would have kept their pricing model, but just offered cards with twice the storage they have now, if not more.

$100 feels like you should be getting 64GB to 128GB worth of memory. I remember the PSP going through quick transitions of higher and higher memory at more affordable prices. It seems like the Vita won't see the same pro-consumer pricing.
