maybe the new real model they use is a hinky old porn star ? ( unless Karima Adebibe got some awful plastic surgery )

I guess you could call Angelina a hinky old porn star. ZING! Seriously though the new model's face looks too stretched, like a bad face lift.

The environments look nice, the character model, not so much, fix the face please (I'm not referring to the 3/4 shot).

Also, I see a lot of people complaining about the easy gunplay in Legends and Anniversary. To be honest, I liked that aspect of the games. I think the clunky gunplay of previous entries was one of the things I hated most. Legend and Anniverary at least have pretty breezy combat that controls decently (although yes, it is not perfect). I would rather them continue on the Legends and Anniversary path than try to go old skool or something like that.

It wasnt just because it was too easy, it felt more like it was there to distract you from doing more platforming than an actual part of the game. I do think they should stick with a lock-on system and not free aim, the constant moving and flipping fits Lara more than hiding behind things and shooting.

I can see this is going to be a losing battle with the new generation of Sony fans who have only just played Uncharted. I can't wait until they show more Indy, the spilled blood will be delicious.

Lest we forget that Lara was once a franchise that was synonymous with PlayStation, pivotal to console's success and opening up gaming to a new market. Lara has more to prove than Uncharted, but dead? Go screw yourself GAF.

Agreed.

hyperbolically metafictive
legends was ok...ish. it kind of filled the place prince of persia vacated when it went all angsty and inept. but i guess **** raider has been lent NEW FANBOY LIFE as a supposed rival to uncharted

and yeah, the new lara model does kind of suggest the cadaverous remains of jenna jameson

I'm really hoping that from the screens lack of humanoid enemies, jet-ski's, motorcycles, and general girly-JamesBond crap, that anniversary did so well that they've taken to a permanent return to those old school ways, i.e. exploration and *gasp* t0mbs! Anniversary was awesome imho, and a lot better than Legends.

The bike is back, but aside from that as far as the way the game is laid out its suppose to be closer to Anniversary than Legend.

Screens look fantastic.
If they bring back the excellent orchestral scores from the first game and the genuine feeling of solidarity I am so on for this. I have missed this series.

You haven't played Legend?
She completely snaps during the ending to it. Awesome shit.

I did play Legend. Loved it.

I know the events you're referring to, but the fact is the PS2-based technology at work just wasnt good enough to express real emotion. The Lara model gritted her teeth and committed some wonderfully ruthless actions, but I still didnt really feel any anger on her part. That one new screen you used in your comparison - there's more raw anger emanating off of that facial expression than I saw throughout the entire conclusion of Legend.

Thats what I meant.

They've translated it over at TRU. Nothing really new in it, basically all magazines are getting the same shots and info now. The official online unveiling should be this week so we should get something new then.

They say it's a new engine but it kinda looks alot like the same one :p

Anyway, I translated the first part before reading that the rest is available at TRU.. so:

After reconquering the fans with Tomb Raider: Legend and the commemorative version of it's 10th Anniversary, Lara Croft prepares for a return in great style with an adventures produced exclusively for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Tomb Raider: Underworld follows the time line of the previous title, features a new engine and according to Eric Lindstrom, Creative Director of Crystal Dynamics who was present at the event, it will be focused on 3 points: "Lara against the world and the wild nature; Lara will affect the surroundings and the surroundings will affect Lara; Lara will do everything we expect from her". With this we can immediately understand the objectives of CD with this new chapter, mainly the importance that will be given to a vast and interactive world and to the [source (not the correct word)] of exploration, obeying then to the true spirit of the series, without ignoring a universe of new possibilities that the new consoles will allow to be introduced in the game.

Yeah another magazine said it looks like Legend/Anniversary on the 360 when you're playing. But they're saying its pre alpha and we've all seen how drastically some games can improve graphically this gen within a few months.

I like what I see. For what it's worth, I think the **** Raider series has never been as awesome as it was in Legend and Anniversary. I was never a huge OG **** Raider fan (I thought the controls were clunky), and I truly wanted to love the series. In my experience, it just got super awesome over these past two releases.

QFT.

I wanted to like the series in the past.. but the controls put me off. I never got into the series until legend came out for the 360... so im excited about underworld... it looks great and if it plays better than legend / anniversary... then this game is a day one purchase.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
January issue of Play had a cool spread of this, looks real nice. Had shots suggesting in level weather changes.

This possibly isn't the right place to ask, but maybe someone knows anyway. Is there a difference between the 2 part downloadable version of Anniversary and the retail version for 360?

That is a bad thing...How? It had some fantastic platforming it. Hell I want more!!!:lol
*i still need to go rent Tomb Raider Anniversary. I'm one of the many who thought it was **** when it first came out but just tried Legends recently. Really liked it:lol

No difference between the Annivesary for rEtail and download. Except achievements. I would go with the retail just because you should be able to find it for 40 or something.

She looks completely pissed now which makes since after what happened at the end of Legend.

She kinda looks like Jessica Biel in the underworld pic.

Legend and Anniversary on the 360 look considerably different from each other. Anniversary looks like a PS2 port while Legend is actually quite impressive. The latter part of the King Arthur level in particular looks almost like CG at times.

TR:L really doesn't get enough credit in the graphical department.

I agree, TRL is very impressive. Unfortunately, on the 360, the framerate is very poor and dips below 30 fps on a near constant basis. In 480p, it runs smoothly, but that kills its image quality.

I managed to find the PC version recently for $4, though, and it runs much smoother (mostly 60 fps). Still, I found it odd that the game actually couldn't hold 60 at all times as there are still moments of slowdown in the game. That suggests to me that it was simply poorly optimized (when it was released, no PC could handle the next-gen mode properly).

Hopefully this new game will be properly tooled to run well on all hardware. I also hope there is a PC version.

The pics of the new game are certainly impressive. Hopefully the sole focus on visuals of this level will result in superior performance over TRL.

Seeing as Uncharted obviously took a few cues from the recent Tomb Raider games, I'd love it if they did the reverse and took a look at the gunplay in Uncharted. TRL and TRA both feature incredible dull and worthless combat mechanics, if you ask me. Uncharted is dynamite in that area and while I wouldn't necessarily want anywhere near that much combat in a new TR game, something more polished and enjoyable ala Uncharted would be great.

A trip to the Maya Civilization

The version presented in this event was in clear state of early stages (pre-alpha), although you could already see some of the features that will set the so desiered return of Lara Croft. First of all, its important to note that the majority of the information regarding the plot was omited, and the only certainty is that the game will be set in the jungles of Chiapas State, in Mexico. The cosmology of the Mayan Civilization will be backround for the plot/story - one of the traits of this ancient civilization was the mastering of Astronomy and the indepth study of celestial movements, being the Mayan calendar today a reference because of it's accuracy.
Even though we don't know official details, the game will recreate the famous Mayan underworld, Xibalba; at least, that is how the presentation ended, with Lara solving a gigantic puzzle that opens the door to this parallel world of spirits and gods of death and disease.
The level played will be the 4th chapter of the game, and it's set in an archeological complex where rain is a constant. Between the presented enemies, we can find bats, leopards, and humans who try to get to Xibalba's entrance as well. Lara leaves footprints in the mud, gets wet, and the objects and bodies left behind don't mysteriously desappear. The ilumination/lighting is worthy of note, in real-time, in terms of interaction with the stages and objects, demonstrating a great deal of credibility, giving us great imersion, worthy of a next-generation game. The system...(continue)

Hope the translation is readable.

Why is that word banned???

Hope I dont get banned for asking

On topic, looks great, love the holes in the bottom of her back :lol

MadOdorMachine

No additional functions
It looks like you can shoot while hanging from objects (Splinter Cell) and climbing may be more like Assassin's Creed based on the pic below. This game looks great btw. Action/Adventure games are sorely lacking on 360.

I think her hair looks like shit. Otherwise, nice.

Edit: It's really the ponytail more than anything. It looks like a turd in all the gameplay shots. Very last-gen.
