This is the first console generation that fails to have an exclusive game impressive enough to warrant me buying a Playstation or Xbox. I’ve been waiting patiently, but so far it’s been a massive meh. Nothing interesting or original and no, Horizon and Persona don’t cut it for me.

A PC and Switch has served me nicely and I feel like I have missed nothing worthwhile.

My honest opinion is that Cuphead is just a decent little indie game with fantastic art style. It didn’t “own my soul” like it did for so many others.

I played about 8 hours and had fun. That’s it

Sonys 2018 Exclusive line up is flawed because of its lack of multiplayer focused games.
Ms 2018 Exclusive line up is flawed because of its lack AAA single player cinematic games.

Assassin's Creed III is my favorite game in the series. Many people seems to hate the game for some reason. I really liked the setting and the ship combat was fun. I didn't have any problem Desmond either.

Watch Dogs is a great game and I don't understand the hate for Aiden Pierce.

I hate online multiplayer, except for co-op, and wish it would be banished from existence for all time. I feel it has cost us quality and expansion/invention in single player experience.

i think the open world trend is awful. open world games are a terrible environment for a deep level of story telling. there is simply no lasting change in those types of games. you cant allow the player to pick and choose events without giving quite a bit of your scope. look at games with character driven and event driven stories versus games that are open ended, theres a clear difference between the 2.

and as for gta.......mercs was better in every way. the open environment was simply more suited to the gameplay options. and also gta story arcs are just looney toon episodes, they arent scary or engaging, or even interesting.

i know im new i just thought i could say this here.

The Witcher 3 disproves your statement imo. Video game stories don’t get much deeper and it’s a massive open world. It all comes down to the developer/publisher and what they prioritise. It clearly can be done with a concerted effort.

i disagree a game that allows true change to its environment and characters through a narrative and emotional growth based on set decisions at set moments will always be superior from a story stand point to a game that splits your choices between 3 or more "quests". i feel theirs room for both i just dont like that people seem to think open ended games are the wave of the future.

i would rather see better looking environments than bigger ones. omg i cant stand just running for 10-15 mins just to reach a quest and, where i only own a ps3 the load times on fast travel can be extreme on certain games. but thats perfectly understandable, seeing that they are primarily ps4 titles.

have never played the witcher so idk it might be a shinning example, ive heard nothing but good things so i would like to play it. but i think the poo throwing game with the special truds was a very overlooked and better game than the witcher.

I don't like a single Naughty Dog game despite having given at least two games of each of their franchises a chance.
Alpha Protocol is the only good Mass Effect game.

Don't know about video games not getting much deeper than the Witcher 3 but it is undeniably a quite well written and immensely comfy game.
You should give it a chance Kallen, perhaps you'd prefer the second one if you prefer more confined environments. I do get where you're coming from to an extent with open world harming the overall design of the game. Metal Gear is possibly the most egregious example of this going from even Ground Zeroes to The Phantom Pain.

On that topic though there's another controversial opinion, TPP was a good game with a good story.

Red Faction -> Half Life 1.
Modern Zelda games are shit and get perfect scores when they by no means deserve it.
I don't think I can sit through another laddermover volume 4. ie Uncharted just for the story.

Final Fantasy VIII is underrated. As good as 7 and way better than 9, 10, and 13.

Original Xbox One idea was good.

GTA 4 was better than 5.

Majora's Mask is not very good. LTTP is the best zelda.

Nfl 2k series was not better than Madden, though Madden is not great anymore.

I never played Half Life, but Red Faction 1 is one of my favorite FPS I ever played. Not far after Halo.

Red Faction 1, Freedom Fighters, Project Sylpheed, and Suikoden 1/2 are the most underplayed, amazing games out there.

Thought I was one only ones out there, RF1 was an amazing experience and the online kept me busy for years.

The rest of your choices, you seem like my kind of guy. All classics.

Far cry 2 is the best Far cry, followed by 3

Crash team racing is so much better than mario kart

Jak 3 (and 2 to a lesser extent) is an amazing game

Horizon zero dawn is an okay game and has nothing special

Zelda switch is a pain in the ass to play because of it's subpar controls and combat

Developers who make shooting games and think it's a good idea to add weight to the aim by putting an artificial input lag or massive deadzones shouldn't be allowed to make games

Bungie has never made a good game

GTA V isn't an interesting game, it has no soul (watch dogs is better to me)

Indie games are boring 90% of the time

Pokemon design are getting worse with each gen and the people in charge of their design should have been fired long ago. (there wasn't a single good looking pokemon in 7th gen)

and probably some other things...

I think the Nintendo Wii should be classified as the last of the 6th generation consoles together with the Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, and original XBox, not the first of the 7th generation consoles.

Primarily because the unique games for it are clearly designed to be played on old school CRT-TVs, whereas the rest of the 7th generation was trying really hard to be HD.

The reason I know this to be a controversial statement is that I once dared to utter it on Reddit and subsequently lost all my Karma :p

This may not be the topic for a new account, but here goes:

Celeste & Owlboy won't really be remembered in 5 years.

Castlevania II is among the best games of all time; especially with a re-translation.

Mario & Zelda both improved when Miyamoto let go of them.

Nioh was a lot more creative and interesting than Dark Souls 3, despite cribbing so heavily from the franchise.

Ikaruga & Radiant Silvergun are not even in the top 3 of "Best Shmups" and Treasure was extremely inconsistent (but Gunstar Heroes is still awesome).

The Yakuza games are better written and more sincere than 9 out of 10 games (ex: Last of Us) that are celebrated for their writing.

DS3 without a minimap (don´t want a arrow pointing the quest), is bad , for casul as myself..

Let me on/off the minimap ...

SFV even with the last release is crap , a joke to the common fighting users :/ , release a fullprice croped game

I disliked games like Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey, and I only have interest in going back to the latter.

They were never really engaging enough for me to finish either of them. I kept getting frustrated because of how difficult Breath of the Wild is to me.

I hate that the Switch is getting Recycled Wii U games. Wii U owners should get a copy of any game that is ported to Switch that they own as a incentive to upgrade to Switch as we supported the Wii U.

It's the best game Naughty Dog ever made IMO. Obviously they've made titles with far better graphics and voice acting since but nothing has matched Jak 3 where it counts. It's a shame they're so focused on developing hyper-serious/torture porn moviegames these days, as Jak was the best mascot PlayStation ever had and stood shoulder to shoulder with Mario and Banjo Kazooie.

I think horizon has better gameplay then breath of the wild. I just found it more fun though I wouldn't mind if horizon had some of botw dodge mechanics.

I think Monster Hunter is an unremarkable series. I got the first MH back when it was released on the PS2 and failed to see what was so good about it.
The combat was clunky and the graphics were average. The combat engine felt slow and unresponsive - that was the main thing that stood out for me.
I remember trying MH again on the PSP and my opinion remained unchanged. I suppose the series just isn't for me.

I think Okami is incredibly overrated. I had heard so much about it (like Zelda etc etc), how good it was, that I bought it and sat it on my shelf because I thought it was a classic. Fast forward a bit and I’m hanging out with this girl I’m seeing at the time and she’s like “Squeeel! You have OKAMI! OMG! That’s my favourite game of all time, let’s play it!”.

So, I take the shrink wrap off and we play it for about 2-3 hours. Never been so bored in my life. The incredibly brain dead and frustrating tutorial bits stand out as a particularly painful memory.

I turned it off and we did other things. Never went back to it.

Witcher 3 is not as good as everyone thinks it is............
It really is kind of boring. I bought it during the countdown sale a few weeks ago and I'm trying to get into it. It's beautiful with the X patch, but not so much fun. Maybe it just starts slow.

Here'
KoTOR >> KoTOR 2

This is a good one, because the original Knights of the Old Republic is fun, smart, and innovative. The sequel, at best, is unfinished and incomprehensible.

And fans of the sequel want you to believe the game is better because fans spent years fixing it to the point where it's now playable and comprehensible.

.

The big problem with Majora's Mask is the dungeons, they're just not much fun at all.

However the overworld is pretty well done, the three day cycle and the villagers routines are interesting and Termina is in general a really interesting setting, I specially love Clock Town's art direction.
