Sonic games are absolutely terrible, all of them.

Heavy Rain is one of the greatest games of this generation.

Half Life 2 is average
Bioshock 1's gameplay is bad
Halo ODST's campaign is without a doubt top 5 most boring FPS campaigns I've ever played.
I enjoyed Indigo Prophecy, but not because I thought the story made sense or anything(it didn't), but that's what I liked about it the most. It was just fucking crazy and all over the place.
Planescape is not a game I will ever be able to playthrough again because gameplay is ass
Legend of Zelda Minish Cap is my favorite 2D Zelda
I dislike Xenogears gameplay, I just can't get into it at all which is odd because I do like martial arts and all that.
Speaking of gameplay being ass, Deus Ex 1 gameplay is complete ass, but I'll give credit where it's due and say the level design is really something else, but still gameplay is ass.
Starcraft 1 is possibly one of the most boring games I ever played and I actually decided to force my way through it. It was my first and last RTS I played for awhile, before I finally gave the genre another chance.
Secret of Mana's gameplay sucks.

Hmm, there's probably more, but I can't of any at the moment.

Uncharted is the worst new series of this generation. Horrible platforming, "puzzles", and "gameplay" designed around setpieces instead of being fun. And the worst fans of any series. ANY SERIES.

Winner.

Starcraft 1 is possibly one of the most boring games I ever played and I actually decided to force my way through it. It was my first and last RTS I played for awhile, before I finally gave the genre another chance.
.

I hope you don't think crap like Starcraft is all the RTS genre has to offer. There are so many better RTS games.

My opinion applies to the gaming industry as a whole.

I think there is a huge problem with the portrayal of women and minorities in gaming industry and it largely has to do with the fact that immature neckbearded manbabies are people that are catered to. This is also largely why gaming is still seen as a hobby for losers in many circles.

Sega > Nintendo, that's probably as controversial as it gets for me, and it's a classic, but Sega vs. Nintendo will always be the greatest rivalry this industry ever had.

Cryostasis has one of the best stories in any game ever made. Most of you will never play it because of it's high system requirements. Even fewer will actually bother to take the time to understand it.

However, those who do actually take some time to think about it will have experienced a story that's up there with Fyodor Dostoyevsky's works in it's attention to detail and it's ideas.

MGS series sucks compared to Splinter Cell. Not saying it's a bad series though.

Starcraft is the stupidest RTS series ever made, requiring a maximum of micro and a minimum of any semblance of large scale strategy beyond a build order. It's popular because it's easy to get into, much like COD. Command and Conquer, Homeworld, and Total Annihilation did far more to innovate the genre than it ever did. Naturally, they aren't as popular because they are more complicated.

Portal 2 was not worth more than 30.

In general, the more popular a game is leads to a good indication of how stupid it's players are.

Gears of War sequels all sucked. The first was only good because there wasn't another game like it at the time.

HL2 sucks compared to HL1.

Thief 3 is the best stealth game ever.

Unreal 2 wasn't a bad game. Neither was Invisible War. They are better than most of the games released these days.

Dragon Age 1 was an ok game, but at least it wasn't as bad as Dragon Age 2.

Skyrim is nothing more than a modded Oblivion with a slightly modified engine.

UDK is better than Minecraft.

Uncharted series has mind numbing gameplay and is likely more uninvolved than Call of Duty.
oh really

* Though infinitely flawed Too Human was a great time if you let it sink in. You couldn't pay me to play it nowadays but I still hold fond memories. I also have yet to experience a game with combat that epic save maybe a few moments in Space Marine.

* If there's even a halfway decent JRPG I have yet to cross its path. Even the somewhat promising ones always end up having at least one character that makes me homicidal. No I don't want to read your wiki or gamefaq, and no I don't like grinding for grinding's sake.

* Reach is the best shooter this generation, hands down.

* Tomb Raider > Uncharted, as a game, by a mile. If the two could have children I'd be fine with that. But Tomb Raider without any combat whatsoever would be the true holy grail.

* Fable 2 was the best Fable game, and if you didn't like it you may be missing a functional heart or have humor cancer.

* Oblivion was the greatest game ever, on paper, and one of the most mind-numbingly boring and load-time filled messes I've ever played. Which is crazy since Skyrim is my current messiah. Go figure.

* Comfy Couch PC gaming is the one true "master race", and those who have seen the glory have the consoles to thank for it. And while I'm at it, keyboard/mouse controls are some antiquated unintuitive shit-on-a-stick, unfit for many game genres. A controller is less accurate but feels so much better for most games, shooters included. And I say that as someone who was raised on PC gaming and loved every bit of it. I just can't go back.

* The hardcore competitive PvP community ruins most games when they're listened to.

* Diablo 3's real-money auction house is a cynical money-grab and isn't worth the always-online DRM in place to support it.

It feels kindof nice to let it all out. Moving on...

Can't stand Resident Evil 4. Loved the outbreak games.

The original Final Fantasy is one of my favorites.

Silent Hill 4 The Room is one of my favorites.

Hated Alan Wake.

Just Dance 3 was my GOTY. Yes I'm serious.

Had more fun with it than any other game in 2011. In 2005 Wii sports was amazing to play with my family. Just dance 3 took that to another level.

It is also vastly more fun than Dance Central 2. (Im talking Wii version here)
Screw fake full body tracking. It sucks. The moves are slow and boring. 4 players that can stand anywhere in the room and go crazy is simply better. More fun, better feedback (even if not very accurate), the interface more interesting, more players, etc.
When given a choice after a few tries, JD3 wins every time.

OH YAY! A thread like this... I got a lot of gems.

The Devil May Cry series is kind of crap and Bayonetta is a POS. I'm glad Ninja Theory is rebooting it to make it something that I wouldn't mind playing through.

Puzzles are bullshit in video games, it's a gameplay element that gets worse the more you replay it every time, it's something that starts sucking as soon as you completed it once and figure out the solution (or figuring out how dumb they are.), and becomes nothing but boring obstacles and chores (depend how long they are), never did I once say "wow this puzzle is so awesome, I can't wait to try it again!" in a video game, at most they serve as a distraction if they're quick to do, nothing more, they suck. When someone say "the puzzles are better this time!" in a game, it just means "lol remember that boring dumb thing you had to do? It just got better!"

Same goes to "mining" in mass effect games, what's the deal with mining, why put it in every game, I didn't ask for it... can you not like replace it with something fun? What's the deal with collecting stuff. "mining game is gone but we replaced it with something less shitty this time!", that's good to know I guess!

Crafting in RPGs suck donkey balls too.

I hope you don't think crap like Starcraft is all the RTS genre has to offer. There are so many better RTS games.

Nah, eventually, I decided to return back to the RTS genre and try out other games within the genre. I've found some I really end up liking a lot and I have a friend who keeps recommending Warcraft 3 to me, but I'm unsure yet if I want to play it lol.

There is a difference between great atmosphere and great story.

There is a difference between storytelling and the actual story. Just because a mediocre story is presented in a fantastic manner.... doesn't mean the story itself is fantastic.

Fights over naming conventions of RPG's are dumb, in one genre you are playing the "role" of a character. In the other you are "defining" the role of a character.

Most WRPG's have horrible driving motivation, shallow stories, shallow illusion of choice and mainly lives on the gameplay and atmosphere/design of the world.

Most JRPG's have silly stories presented in a cool manner that allows those who are willing to empty their heads...enjoy the game.

Not every game needs a multi-player component.

Multi-player does not save a poorly designed game.

There is a difference from a professional review we should expect from game reviewers and Professional (or Peer) Critique. One should be done from a place with as little bias as possible, the other can be whatever the author wants it to be.

After playing 5 MMO's I fully believe that it is a horrible genre, and things like grinding are a waste of life. It is made even worse by those that do not have solo content because sometimes.... people suck.

People who game on phones are different than those that game on dedicated devices. There isn't much overlap.

The people who find spending $250 on a handheld/console too much money yet turn around and purchase a $500-$600 smartphone (or $100 with a two year contract) are idiots.

Nintendo shows that most people enjoy shallow experiences.

Microsoft shows that with enough money and the right timing they can create a cult like following that will rationalize everything.

Sony has a tendency to embarrass other devs on their own hardware but should find away to create unique hardware without giving most devs headaches.

Piracy is a factor in the life of a console/handheld. It may not be the sole defining metric, nor is it easy to pin an exact number, but it most likely has an effect that is felt by the smaller companies. I don't judge pirates but I hope they put some thought in what they do and who they are doing it to.

Homebrew is not the same thing as piracy. But the smart people that work on homebrew create the template that pirates follow. It really isn't necessary to put homebrew on everything. How many device do you need to run emulators and play your latest MKV's?

EDIT: And people comparing MGS, a game with giant mech and cybernetic ninja's, to splinter cell, a game about a spy set in realistic setting, should think really hard about what they are comparing and why.

I enjoyed Fable 3 a lot

This is the last generation I will buy a Sony gaming console, because they don't have any games that interest me.

I did not enjoy my playthrough of Xenoblade and I think that Lost Odyssey was the best JRPG this generation.

The Wii U reminds me of what the Gamecube was.

I feel as though Microsoft has been the victor for two generations when it comes to core gaming.

The last good Unreal was Unreal 2k3

Bioware was still a good company from 2002- 2005. This is not the case anymore

Shenmue is the shittiest "game" I've ever fallen in love with. Great atmosphere, but unless you happen to be in the arcade, the game portion is really sloppy, slow, and just clunky.

I'd play it again if they made it though.

Oh!

I really think the Banjo games are crappy. And I've never understood the appeal of Gran Turismo. Sure they tend to be pretty games and the cars handle realistically... but how is that fun?

Then there's this Call of Duty thing people are in love with. I was tired of realism based shooters by Soldier of Fortune. Now it's like droning on and on about a subject that makes no sense to me. Release after release, more and more games featuring guns and first person cameras.

No thank you.

Ummm, I still don't get Kinect. Well that's not true. I get Kinect. I don't get MS thinking devs will try let alone succeed at such an input. Wiimotes perplexed them for crying out loud!

Oh yes, one more.

When I saw the Wiimote I saw a range of things that controller could do better than any other. The IR sensor in particular I thought was the systems biggest innovation. I don't see any of that in the Upad.

It's a standard controller with a touchscreen. I can see developers actually getting use out of it is the only plus I can find. Otherwise it just seems like someone at Nintendo said "We need a new idea! Anyone? Suggestions."

"Two screens?"

"Why the hell not?!"

Nintendo haven't made a worthwhile console since the SNES.

Mario 64 is a bad, boring game. Super Mario World is a mediocre SMB3 rehash.

The N64 controller is utter garbage.

I liked God of War III more than Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. God of War is also my favourite series (alongside Uncharted), despite the mediocre stories in GoW II and III.

I don't really like anything first-party from Nintendo besides the occasional Mario game, Donkey Kong Country and Wave Race 64. That's about it. Always felt Nintendo was way overrated.

Ico is a mediocre game at best. As an experience it was pretty good and interesting, but sluggish controls, awful combat, awful camera, so-so puzzles and the whole thing basically being a long escort mission makes it a mediocre game. Shadow of the Colossus also suffers from janky controls, while the setting and concept are both interesting. I really feel like Team Ico are much better at constructing interesting concepts, settings and stories than at actually wrapping compelling gameplay around their ideas.

I liked MGS4, despite the story making no sense whatsoever.

I didn't like FF VI much at all, and honestly found it to be a very overrated game. Kefka felt like a poorly fleshed out villain with no real motivation. I didn't care about any of the main characters either.

I'd take Sonic 1-3&K over any Mario game, any day.

Sonic CD is a shitty game with great music (US soundtrack).

Zelda bores me to tears. They're not bad games, just.. really, really boring.

I actually liked the latest Splatterhouse game.

Sony has the best first-party output of the three console makers. Microsoft has even less first-party stuff that interests me than Nintendo.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a terrible game about walking and taking photos. Good story though.

I never liked the Mega Man games.

FF XIII is an OK, if extremely linear, game. Snow is one of the worst characters I've ever seen in a video game.

Halo 2 is the best in the series. Best MP maps, and best campaign.

I think most people agree with this.

oh really

I'm going to guess you didn't finish the game, or even play it. But yes really.

Although those who think Deus Ex 1 is bad are more subhuman than the rest.

-Assassin's Creed is only good for the visuals.
-Metroid Prime series is insanely boring.
-Metroid Other M is enjoyable.
-Killzone is boring.
-Halo is boring.
-Call of Duty is boring.
-Twilight Princess is the best Zelda.
-Majora's Mask is a terrible game.
-Mario Galaxy games are boring.
-TimeSplitters is the best FPS series.
-I had more fun with Brawl than Melee. Both are great, though.

I'll let the hate sink in now.

Japanese games typically have the worst form of storytelling out there. It's abysmal and I have no idea how people enjoy it.

I think FFVII is still the best one and I've played through XII and IX and VI after VII.

Oh, and I also don't think OoT is better than it.

It's like you post from 15 years in the past.

I didn't like FF VI much at all, and honestly found it to be a very overrated game. Kefka felt like a poorly fleshed out villain with no real motivation. I didn't care about any of the main characters either.

Don't tell me you love FFVII too...

Here are some new ones from me that should be controversial:

-I hate "small" games, indie games, low budget games, whatever you want to call them
-For the most part, I can't find enjoyment in any game that has no story whatsoever (there are exceptions to this)
