Red Dead Redemption 2 delayed to Spring 2018 [Up: April 2018 at the earliest]

April at the earliest means it will probably be fall 2018.

Next year they'll be going up against Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077 and possibly a Half-Life 3. Bad news for R* they will have a hard time winning goty

A tiny itty bit part of me hopes this gives them time to release GTA V singleplayer dlc later this year like was rumored. It would be the only thing that could make the RDR delay sting less.

I see the title got updated. What exactly did Rockstar say now?

As per Nirolak's update; the game won't hit this fiscal year so earliest potential release is April 2018.

Jheez I feel genuinely sorry for anyone holding onto this dream.

Well shit, that makes fall actually very possible.

It's not rumored though. The current rumor is a paid expansion for gta online, That will include Liberty City and North Yankton, plus a casino in Los Santos. Thay bluntly said no sp dlc, it doesn't get much more final than that.

Ah well, as Miyamoto would say "A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad."

what the fuck. i thought they delayed the initial announcement for so long to make sure they wouldn't have to do this. this sucks :|

uhmm so what else HUGE is coming this year on PS4? this was pretty much the one game i was really looking forward to, overshadowing everything else.. so, another Ass Creed? okay then.. and maybe some Battlefront 2 if it has a great single player mode. blah, this year sucks.

Maybe in like 2020. GTAV is still a big success and this game will be their next release to see a ton of support.

But I wouldn't be shocked if they are doing pre-production on 6 now though.

I'm positive they started working on whatever the next GTA will be sometime last year. I bet it'll be a massive project with more than one state.

I'm honestly kind of OK with this. This fall for me is mostly going to be all Destiny 2. Then you throw in Super Mario Odyssey and probably Far Cry 5, and suddenly it's quite packed.

I also don't think we'll see GTA VI in 2020. That would be just two years after the release of RDR2. I would guess 2022 or even later.

Just think though - even if GTA VI came out in 2020, that's still seven years after GTA V. That's kind of insane when you think about it, although I wouldn't have it any other way - waiting 4-6 years (or longer) between entries in a major series is how it should be done. It allows the games to be major evolutionary leaps instead of just iterative updates every few years.

I expect another delay

With things like "April at the earliest"? Oh yeah, definitely. At first I really expected May and it can still happen of course, but Fall definitely isn't far fetched. So potentially it will be 1,5 years until RDR2, sigh.

I have no problem with waiting but man, quit with announcing a release date that isn't gonna happen at all.

They already know they're not hitting that spring release either. They're just moving the release date just enough at once to still keep the hype etc. They'll announce the next delay in January of February I think. Fall 2018.

This sucks, but was expected.

I wonder how the regular PS4 / XB1 will look and perform. I think these screenshots looks too good for them. =o

Been waiting a long time so far. What's another year or so? I have no doubt it will be amazing when it drops. To be honest, as others have said, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if it's even pushed to fall/holiday 2018. Wouldn't be surprised and wouldn't even be pissed.

That said, christ all mighty people around here take their GOTY talk seriously. I mean, is there some kind of bonus check I should receive if I bought a game that is eventually voted GOTY by... someone? I can just imagine all the dabs popping up with each 'ZELDA WINS 2017!' post in a RDR2 thread. -_-

It's obvious Rockstar saw the writing on the wall:
Zelda is GOTY and a younger John Marston wasn't going to cut it.

Wet flip flop noises and being able to ignite gasoline trails in GTA V is neat but gameplay wise nothing was added. To see a REAL open world IMMERSIVE SIMULATION (Zelda) made them scrap whatever engine they were working on to improve whatever sterile environment they had. I applaud Rockstar and fully expect another delay.

Yeah, no. I don't believe that. They don't feel ready to release this year, they're Rockstar, they won't release this year. I don't think there's more to that.

This has got to be the most expected delay ever. Personally, I was just trying to guess when they would announce the delay more than if it would be delayed.
GTA V has me worried with the multiplayer money it's bringing in. I hope they still have a strong single player focus for this game. I mean I know multiplayer is going to be a huge part of this game but as long as the single player is as long as RDR then I'm good to ignore the multiplayer stuff.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild would have been GOTY anyway ;)

I wonder. Mario Odyssey might blow people away and then split the votes with Zelda which could let Horizon win. lol
No matter which game wins, it will be funny on GAF
