Redfall has received its first major patch, adding over 80 fixes

Redfall has received its first major patch, with developer Arkane Studios promising a number of improvements.

Key to this update, according to Arkane, are enemy AI responsiveness, enemy encounter frequency, vampire combat efficiency and improvements to graphical fidelity.


The full patch notes are as follows:



REDFALL VERSION 1.1 PATCH NOTES​

GAMEPLAY​

  • Increased enemy encounter spawn rates across the open world
  • Improved ADS (aim down sight) visibility when looking through sniper rifle scopes
  • Breakable glass will now shatter on first impact from all guns
  • When using additional ammo storage skills, ammo collected above the standard weapon capacity will now persist between gameplay sessions
  • Players can move without interruption when performing melee attacks against enemies
  • Bribón no longer idles in place after performing the Siren ability
  • Devinder’s Translocate ability is now more reliable when used in the Black Sun boss arena
  • Updated various mission descriptions and mission summary texts across all languages
  • Nests now unlock at the correct time when playing in New Game Plus (after completing A Voice in the Dark, and starting giving You Tomorrow* | or in the reverse order)
  • Added medical supplies to the path leading up to the Bloody Tom boss arena
  • General mission fixes and improvements

COMBAT​

  • Fixed multiple instances of enemies appearing unresponsive in combat
  • Improved Vampire melee attacks to increase chances of hitting players in motion
  • Cultist and Bellwether enemies received general improvements to their combat behaviors, including faster reaction times
  • The Rook is now more relentless and will now hunt down all living party members. Kill or be killed
  • Rook Storm lightning bolts will no longer hit players through rooftops and most other unexpected situations

AI/NPC​

  • General improvements to human enemy navigation, including animation timing and responsiveness
  • Dormant Vampires are now more susceptible to waking up from player-generated noise
  • Enemies are now drawn towards the greatest threat during combat. This could be a player, Bribón, or an opposing enemy faction
  • Improved enemy pathing options across open world areas in both districts
  • Added mouth blood to additional Vampire facial variations

ENVIRONMENT​

  • Players have higher chances of encountering additional and varied enemies while exploring the open world
  • Enemies are no longer able to shoot through certain walls in the Fire Station
  • Vampire Nest exit door will now appear correctly in the Shipyard heart instance
  • Improved many instances of visual issues at a distance, including materials and model adjustments
  • Mission Briefing sequences are brighter
  • Improved lighting and audio processing in many interior spaces in both districts
  • Skybox updates to prevent extreme star flickering
  • General improvements to collision detection and asset placement throughout both districts

PERFORMANCE AND STABILITY​

  • Fixed an issue that was preventing certain decal streaming textures to fully load in, causing them to appear blurry
  • Resolved several situations where players could experience an infinite loading screen
  • Improved framerate performance in Bloody Tom and Miss Whisper psychic spaces and boss arenas
  • Players can now proceed past the Accessibility Menu on a new, unlinked bethesda.net account
  • Improved lighting performance in psychic spaces
  • Blood pool reflections no longer excessively flicker
  • Optimized VFX particle counts, emitters, and spawn rates for the following effects:
    • Shield and Inspiration enemy trait effects
    • Environmental fire and smoke effects in the Bladewell Campgrounds
    • Hero ability effects, including Layla’s Umbrella and Jacob’s Heart Stopper
    • Bloody Tom’s slam effect, and Miss Whisper’s death effects
    • Floating dust particle effects
    • Grave Lock effects
    • Psychic Echoes
    • Nest area-of-influence effects
    • Effects when placing Underboss skulls on vampire god pedestals
    • Blood tree disintegration effects
  • Optimized memory usage when using Jacob’s Raven ability
  • Black Sun’s clothing no longer renders animated blue materials
  • General improvements to stability

MULTIPLAYER​

  • Increased the chances of players encountering enemies with special traits in multiplayer sessions
  • General improvements to stability and functionality in Multiplayer Lobbies

ACCESSIBILITY​

  • Left and right movement keys can now be successfully remapped to Left and Right Arrow keys to improve left-handed movement control experience
    • Players with existing game saves will need to reset their Mouse and Keyboard bindings to Default in the settings menu before attempting to remap movement keys to the arrow keys
  • Screen Narration supports additional paths for critical player communication:
    • Invites and Friend requests
    • Joining a multiplayer Lobby
    • Clients leaving a multiplayer Lobby
    • “Invalid Username or Password” error
    • Additional bethesda.net menu screens
    • Updated states of disabled UI elements once players Ready Up in a multiplayer Lobby
  • “Let Games Read to Me” option on first launch for Xbox Series consoles is now enabled
  • Adjusted the timing of several subtitles to ensure they display in the correct order
  • Screen Narration settings will now persist between game sessions
  • Added missing audio cues for Friends List section headers, and the Play Game button
  • Adjusted text size scaling for Bethesda icons
  • Contrast improvements for Ping text, multiplayer progression text headers, and Hero names
  • Controls will no longer lock while the Text-To-Speech field is open
  • Resolved instances where certain UI elements would lose cursor focus
  • Added error messages and warning pop-ups for the following situations:
    • Controller disconnections while on the Initial Input Screen
    • Clients de-selecting Ready after the Host launches the game
    • Players cancelling Friend requests
  • Added missing subtitles to Archive entries for the Giving You Tomorrow mission briefing
  • “Optional Details” is no longer a required field when reporting another player

USER INTERFACE​

  • Tutorial blades are now more responsive when multiple are stacked on top of one another
  • Settings will revert correctly during active gameplay when Cancelling in the Confirm Changes message prompt
  • Enemies will no longer lose nameplates and health bar information when cancelling fast travel
  • Weapons loadouts will no longer swap into weapon inventory when starting new game sessions in quick succession
  • Safehouse keys have been added to the Key Ring
  • The Rook Storm meter now appears more consistently in game, and in the Map
  • General improvements to Menu navigation and feedback

Cut your losses, move on. Time and money to fix the game in ways that no one is ever going to notice.
No Mans Sky did it, but that game actually had a vision. It is possible to become even better

But you're right in this case. Better to flush it now.

I disagree, yes the game was shit, yes nobody cares about it right now, but MS needs to support it at least through this summer including the 60fps patch. They chose to be in the service business, this is part of their service, they need to treat it that way.

I wanted this to be good SO BAD. The potential was there. Game just lacked any sort of polish, and had some fundamental systematic flaws. Co-op looter shooter set in a pacific northwestern style setting with vampires? Man this really could've been something special. Such a shame because the damage has already been done. I don't think there is any way to salvage the brand at this point.

Its New England but whatever…

Based on the reports we got, this never had any chance of being good. Arcane Austin was seemingly ok to take MS’ money and hope they canceled it lol. They never had the appropriate levels of staff to deliver. If the dev didn’t believe in the project then you shouldn’t either.

Yeah, this game is somewhere between a normal game and a GaaS. I think they should at least release all the characters in the season pass, patch out the major issues (which this patch seems to address) and get it to 60fps. After that... so long!

Even if they released a buggy shitty single player game they need to support it. Not to make it good necessarily but just to get it into shape. And yea for this one they promised a 60fps and need to deliver that.

Like I said this is the life they chose. They don’t need to support every game forever (where is my Bleeding Edge battle pass?) but they can’t get in the business of abandoning games if they don’t hit their MC targets or whatever.

Why not ? Two youtubers that I like made a video on this game. Between the bugs, the stuff that should be there but isn't (like if you shoot a car windows the car will stil explode, shooting bullets on water will still have wood around where you shoot...) and the good parts( depend on the youtuber) there is fun to be had. Even if just to laught at the game. It does not make is less insulting to sell this game for 70$ of course. But if films have nanars games can have the same, right?
 
Read through the patch notes and they really should have hauled ass to make this the day one patch. So many obvious fixes in there that should have been caught long ago

Christ they are not lying about the enemies, they are more common and in mixed groups with humans and vampires, it's a lot more difficult to just get around as you can be so outnumbered you're overwhelmed in seconds.

I played it pre-patch. It's not a great game, but IMO not as 4/10 or D- as some people or sites say it is. I've played worse. It actually played pretty smooth for a 30 fps game and has good sound and atmosphere creepy audio. The graphics are all over the place. Some parts looked ok, some literally looked unfinished like a muddy texture. If they didn't fix it in the patch, you'll notice a lot of weird looking water effects and textures right away as your first location is a ferry and port. A lot of weird pop in too.

Maybe the patch fixes a lot of stuff. It says they fixed collisions detection or something so maybe that fixes the awful game mechanic of picking up items where sometimes you really had to fidget your character to be in the prefect spot in order for the item to be able to be picked up.

It doesn't seem like a giant open world game too going by the town map. So it's no Skyrim or GTA kind of land mass.

If you're itching for a generic action/open world game with some RPG elements it can keep you busy. Keep expectations low. Treat it as a $20 bargain bin game.

Support it for who? By your own admission no one cares about it. Spend time, money and resources fixing something that no one wants fixed. The whole world has forgotten and moved on from Redfall, let it fade into obscurity where it belongs. They could patch it 100 times and no one is going to care or start playing it.

Agree. NMS is different because you look at that game and it has a clear, unique vision with a lot of potential that they didn’t quite execute on. That’s a perfect case of where long term support for something seemingly dead is warranted. Sea of Thieves is another good example.

This just isn’t it. No amount of support will make this worth playing. They’ll spend all the time and be in the exact same place they’re in right now. With a dead game that no one wants to play.

The game was sold for money. People bought it. They owe it to those customers - no matter how few - to at least patch it to reasonable levels.

I know some of the tales here are the usual shitposting, but weird seeing people here push for anti-consumer behaviors.

(Of course it can be argued releasing the game in that shitty state was the ultimate anti-consumer act, but at least there’s no point crying over spilt milk)

Fix what can be fixed within a decent support period, push out the 60fps patch and THEN move on. It’s not like you need the entire team for bug fixing and updates, so this won’t keep them from moving on to other projects in parallel.

They need to do it for their own business reputation and the reputation of their own service. Despite the fact that the game was total shit this was a major MS release and they need to support it, if they start releasing buggy games and abandoning them and breaking promises (yes they promised 60fps) they are no better than 3rd rate piece of shit companies like Aspyr.

You never know. If Redfall gets 5 years of support, it might be a game that does well long term. Not likely, but possible.

The reason why people bring up SOT and NMS is because the games got a lot better after years of DLC and patches. But at launch, those games were shit and got awful reviews. Nobody would know those games would still be getting free updates in 2022 or 2023. What could had happened is each game got cut off from updates right away. Thats why people bring up SoT and NMS after lots of updates lately. But nobody brought that up in those early years because nobody really knew was going on except for having shallow content at launch.

I'm glad it's still getting patches despite its very poor reception. I will probably try it in a few months and hopefully patches later.
I watch shitty vampire movies so I can see myself playing a shitty vampire game....I'm a sucker for vampire shit, but hope it does get much better by the time I play it.

I like the premise they started with and it's too bad it is so badly executed.

This patch took too long to release. I uninstalled the game after a couple of days it came out.

I think those games had a coherent vision so could be saved with good content. The problem with Redfall is that it was a live service game and it's full of live service content but then they did an about turn and made it a single player game, that's still full of live service loot etc. They should probably have cancelled instead of pivoting.

The only way I could see this having legs is to go back to the original vision which would take some serious extra work and time, it needs online matchmaking for starters.
