Resident Evil: Revelations - Seventh Review: Eurogamer - 8/10

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
But i have 2 issues.

The fact the game is 10$ more than all others , and the god damn dual analog adapter.

Well, you can wait for the price to go down and show Capcom you aren't putting up with that stuff (although to be fair it's $10 less than RE5 at launch for example) and you don't have to buy the analog add on since RE, as you know with being a fan, doesn't play like an FPS so you only really need the one stick, mostly stopping before aiming...

For new page...
Some new footage on IGN

http://ds.ign.com/articles/121/1214193p1.html

Looks great !!!
And since others may encounter the same issues I did...
Ok, (most of) the videos actually work when embedded in a different site, lol...

Player seems seriously awful like he's fumbling all over the 3DS buttons, awkwardly looking around, aiming, going in circles. Game looks pretty good.

These should probably go in their own thread btw, barely anyone's talking about them here since the OP is of something else...
Frame rate in the fancy foggy room looks improved from before too, though there was a slight stutter (perhaps a capture issue)...

The casino area and the room he says is like an opera house were sweet too.

Pewp!

Still buying regardless as im an RE fan but pretty fuckin lame.

Should be reg price considering u need to pay extra to get the dual analog , its a requirement no?

No games require it. It's totally optional.

IGN put up another write-up
Go Nintendo summarized:

- most common enemy is the Ooze
- Ooze are a collection of pale, gelatinous monsters
- they have the ability to flow like liquid
- this allows them to emerge from grates, pipes and even laundry machines
- the cruise ship is called the Queen Zenobia
- the Ooze seem to be on the ship only
- new Ooze types will actually shoot projectiles at you
- some are far more physically powerful
- game has a balance of dishing out enough ammo to the player, as well as making sure you manage your supplies
- one point in the game you lose your ammo and guns, but still have to deal with Ooze
- you'll come across a fast-moving, twisted fish that simply attempts to bite your head off
- there's also a demonic water cockroach
- these enemies are tough to kill with traditional weapons
- Hunters make an appearance as well

it is done.

though most of that we already knew about, there's gonna be people who'll want to play the game as information-virgins

Nothing beats Jill's comment on the dead cop's body in RE3, in the room where you pick up the shotgun. I don't have the exact quote, but she says something akin to "He's lucky. His guts were ripped out before he managed to turned into a zombie.". :lol

Isn't that just implying that being zombied is a fate worse than death?

Resident Evil 5 taught me to never look forward to a Resident Evil game without Shinji Mikami's involvement.

From what I recall, Shinji Mikami was only a producer for 95% of the series and said that he didn't have much involvement with development. The only games he directed were BH1, BH1R and BH4. Great games, but so were BH2 and BH3 (and BHCV depending on who you ask).

I don't get why but in cut scenes and even in gameplay dialogue stuff seem almost completely detached from what's on screen. Like the sound is from something else altogether. It's not just the lip syncing or acting being off, I've played many such games and didn't really have big issues with them, it just seems off here. Did they maybe have the Japanese dialogue as default this time and it will sound better with such (is there dual audio for Western releases?)? Or am I missing something?

Fuck the regenarator things in the second video, fuck them in the ass!

I will buy it and cry like a pussy when i get to that part.

I dont know if this could be the problem but the game is being dubbed to english, japanese, spanish, french, italian and german.

It's certainly possible; the reason why the lip synch has generally been good in the RE series is because they've only ever had to worry about English VA. Even mega-budgeted localizations like the ones the MGS series receives tend to feature lame lip synching.

A new thread would be a bit to much, but Dutch mag [N]Gamer have a Preview/review of the game, but can't publish the score because the game won't be out untill the 27th of January. They played everything allready.

According to the review, "if this game was available on Wii/360/PS3 and if the title was Resident Evil 6, nobody would complain"

Wow, glowing praise. I'm certainly going to be giving my $50 for this game.

Btw, the game it's biggest flaw might be that Capcom tries to blend in both action and classic (which are the biggest strengths of Revelations as well) RE in Revelations, but because of that it doesn't feel as... a whole.

But you won't care, because the cruiseship feels like a classic RE mansion, (corridors, fiding keys. monsters lurking in the shadow) (there is plenty of ammo to be found when you look for it) and the new enemies are tough. You won't headshot them a lot. Graphics are beautiful with a nice 3D effect, controls are solid.

Too bad I won't be playing it. I have bought enough systems (GameCube, Dreamcast,Playstation) for Resident Evil series before...

Oh, you've played it ? Share with us also what the framerate is please.
Also, does the 3D "pop out" or is it more like looking inside a box ? In a horror game, I would be comfortable with the first option personally.

It is interesting that this game comes out 10 days before the US in Europe and I didnt expect it as soon as January!
The review could be overoptimistic, but I have a feeling that this game will still be better than Resident Evil 5.

Am I the only one that liked Resident Evil 5? Is this another contender for the worst post of the month?

For Gamecube and DC you might be right but PSX is fantastic even in todays standards
All the RE games on those systems are/were great, especially RE2
Not sure if serious.

If it weren't for the horribly stupid AI partner it wouldn't have been soo bad (yep I have no interest to co-op a game like RE).

i heard rumour that it had 3 different convergence settings (similar to Mario 3D Land which has 2) so you may get to choose to a degree.

Resident Evil 5 is and was always TERRIBLE. Even co-op didn't up the required fun quotient enough to make it worth buying at anything close to full price.

No game is worth buying at full price IMO. I bought RE5 for 19.99 and loved it enough to buy one of the DLCs.

I enjoyed it, but it wasn't that fun after an hour as the game failed to throw in any surprises. The only new hooks they introduced was hitting switches together at the same time which was more than anything annoying. I think playing with someone made the game more enjoyable than it would have been without it. However it lacked almost everything that made Resident Evil series unique and enjoyable. As I like to say good game, terrible Resident Evil (like with FF XIII).

I'm looking forward to this game but I not going to allow myself to think that this is going to be like the old games (in RE4/5 camera style), Capcom want us to believe this but I don't trust Capcom anymore... sadly.

i've played through the co-op three times. it may not be as fun as RE4, but yeah, i definately got my moneys worth.

oh and by the way, i bought the 360 version brand new (collectors edition!). bought the PC version brand new (and i most recently played it... gee when was that... oh, last night!). bought a second copy of the 360 version used so that i could play co-op on both my systems.

it's no where near as good as RE4, but if it's your idea of a terrible game, you've had a pretty blessed time playing games.
