They do play mh. I think its a Asian thing.I need a plane ticket to Japan
The only problem with MH being exclusive to a Nintendo handheld is that other high tier series like Pokemon may eat into its potential sales, while on the PSP there wasn't anything that prevented MH from being king.
What exactly would prevent Sony from paying Capcom ___ million to ensure Vita becomes a relevant platform in Japan? This rumor? If this rumor is correct, the deal is up either the end of this year (as MHTriG entered development in 2010) or next year. At that point I don't think Nintendo would particularly care about Vita. 3DS would likely be around, or have surpassed the PSP's LTD in Japan by then, and the majority of the platform's big system sellers will have been released. The only ones that wouldn't would be stuff like a Dragon Quest XI, and Final Fantasy remakes which would sell well with/without Vita in the picture.
A direct port of MH4 to launch simultaneously with the 3DS version is naive for a variety of reasons, the least of which is some rumored deal. A Monster Hunter Portable 4th (which wouldn't be a main series game) released after the 3DS games? Well, if Sony wants to save Vita I would expect it. Of course whether or not Sony wants to save Vita is another story.
Now it's 3DS, regardless of spinoffs. The home of Monster Hunter portable is PSP, and their games run on Vita. The only reason they had to decide to release in 3DS when they did it was due to bigger sales of DS, now that Nintendo's handheld is powerful enough. Capcom use to release their games everywhere they can. They never said that Vita won't get MH and wouldn't make sense for them to keep it exclusive if in 3DS doesn't get PSP-like sales.
Who cares if they split user base. Was it a problem for RE5, RE6, SFIV, MvsC3, UMvsC3, SFxT etc?
No, in fact all this Capcom multiplayer games sold more than their previous iterations last gen (DMC4 also can be included) because they were released as multiplatform, even if each platform had less sales than PS2.
Considering the state of Vita right now, I really don't think that a Monster Hunter release in 2014 will change much of Vita's prospects at all...just as MHFO didn't change the 360's failure in Japan.
As for MH on the Vita, it could go either way, honestly. Sony could legitimately decide to just swallow their losses with the Vita and give up in the system in 2014 to focus on the PS4.
Awaiting Resident Evil Revelaitons on PSP/Vita.
I've heard so much about the Monster Hunter franchise but haven't tried it yet for myself because I've yet to see a mainstream release from the franchise on a platform I'd play it on in North America. I don't play handhelds but I'd really like to play a Monster Hunter sometime. Would love to see a new entry on the next Xbox and/or PlayStation worldwide.
Other way around, now Capcom has full access to that Pokemon fanbase which was something they were not fully guaranteed when MH was not on the 3DS. No matter what anyone would say the numbers pokemon regularly pulls will always be attractive to any 3rd party and the chance to get a slice of that is more than enough incentive for Capcom to bring the series over (Especially when Capcom knows their own fanbase will move with the games).
Pokemon and DQ probably played a part in roping in MH to the 3DS as well, pooling the fanbase of DQ onto the 3DS as well would more than justify Capcom moving MH to the 3DS also. That's 2 giant fanbases they know have 100% access to as opposed to only partial access.
Also all 3 of them have spaced out their releases as well in order to prevent themselves from cannibalizing each other too much.
DQ7 for Feb
MH4 simply Summer (Which starts around May or August)
Pokemon X and Y for October
The 3DS numbers in Japan this year are going to be freakish.
You are forgetting Tomodachi Collection 2 first-party from Sakamoto's division in Nintendo. The DS one sold like 3.5 million. This one is going to be huge.

The Xbox 360 failed in Japan for similar, but decidedly different reasons than why Vita's failing right now. With that said, Monster Hunter Frontier and a hypothetical Monster Hunter Portable 4th are incredibly different in terms of importance. Monster Hunter's stomping ground is on handhelds. 360 is not a handheld. Monster Hunter rose to prominence due to local multiplayer gaming. Monster Hunter Frontier is an online-only game.
lolwutIf Nintendo did this to kill the Vita I hope Karma gets them some day.
It won't though since Karma doesn't exist =/.

I still think the clusterfuck will be completed by Final Fantasy somewhere.

This is what happens when you have lolbrandloyalty.
Moral of the story: lolbrandloyalty
Never heard of that game before.
Of course. But by the time the theoretical Portable 4th would come out for the Vita, the Vita will be in its third year.
And if it's still failing by that point, I don't see Sony continuing to support it.
Sega discontinued the Dremcast 2 years and 4 months into its lifespan. The Vita is tracking below the Dreamcast in terms of sales...
That's why it might be too late.
Same. Maybe he's talking about another game?
Besides, Tamagotchi Collection was made by NBGI, not Sakamoto's SPD Group 1.
I just want the device with superior hardware to have a place in the market, even if it's smaller.
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with brand loyalty either. Look at all the people loyal to Valve/Steam, no one makes fun of them for that.

If there was any doubt in peoples minds about Nintendo owning Japan im pretty sure that would erase it completely.
Sony is not SEGA.
Valve is legit though. They haven't made any true fuck ups with the community despite not having any competition in the digital front. Except Half Life 3, where the hell is it?!

The problem is your brand loyalty has turned you into a brand crusader, placing blame on a company that anyone else will tell you has NOTHING to do with the failures of your preferred brand's platform.I just want the device with superior hardware to have a place in the market, even if it's smaller.

I don't know how happy investors would be with Sony continuing to pour resources into a failed console in its third year, even IF there is the possibility of a Monster Hunter release on the system.
Regardless, there's just too many factors here to make any concrete conclusions here. I hope Sony is able to secure an exclusive Monster Hunter, and I hope it helps restart the console in Japan. A failed console is never a good thing.
Sony continues to make television sets.
Sony's TV business hasn't been profitable in nearly 10 years.
They're a stubborn bunch.
But on the other end, we have Kaz Hirai trying to shake up the old management and trimming the fat. He does seem to be dedicated to turning Sony around. Perhaps the Vita will be one of those casualties as Sony decides to push all of its resources into the PS4?
It's one of the many possibilities. I look forward to see how it all unfolds over the next couple of years.
X360 IPs went multi or ported to PS3 when 360 had a bigger user base.
SNES went multi or ported to Genesis/Sega CD when SNES had a bigger user base.
DMC went from PS2/PS3 exclusive to multi when PS3 wasn't even released.
Mega Man Legends was even ported as PSP launch game.
It wasn't only Vita or WiiU, Capcom also strongly supported devices like Dreamcast or Saturn when they knew their install base was small.
Extra revenue from a cheap port as Capcom typical does (see SFIV3D or UMvsC3 Vita), and to don't have to worry if a device sells more than other in the future. Specially if some release of games like this and a pricecut revives sales as happened in 3DS or others. It also would help with their rellationship with Sony, which would help Capcom in next gen home console games.
Multiplatform has been a win-win situation for Capcom always, and if they didn't implemented in portables was because DS wasn't capable technically. Which all these home console IPs on 3DS proves.
Vita is one of the devices Kaz Hirai likely had a huge hand in. He's also said that gaming is one of the pillars of his plans for Sony. Conceding the entire dedicated handheld gaming market to Nintendo would go against that.

I highly doubt a main FF game will be released for 3DS just because the people in charge place cinematics above everything else.I still think the clusterfuck will be completed by Final Fantasy somewhere.
It goes by friend collection in the west.Never heard of that game before.
That's true...I do see him trying to do all that he can to try and keep Vita alive. After all, if the Vita gets cancelled early, that will reflect badly on his abilities as CEO / his strategy in one of the "new pillars of Sony."
If Kaz's new strategy really starts to turn Sony around, I'm guessing that investors will be more lenient with the Vita's progress. We'll just have to wait and see.
Killing Vita off without a proper attempt to revive could also send a bad message to third parties. While Sega and Sony are different companies, Sega lost a lot of good will with third parties after the way they treated the Saturn. The few third parties still investing in Vita likely wouldn't be too pleased if Sony officially abandoned the device before they were done with it.
There's also another thing at play here. It's becoming increasingly apparent that Japan doesn't want home consoles any more. The PS3, and Wii U's performance in Japan thus far indicates that. So if Sony wants the PlayStation brand to still remain relevant in their home country Vita is going to have to start living up to its name, and show some signs of life.
With all of that said, Vita is probably one of, if not the cheapest PlayStation Sony has made. It uses off the shelf materials rather than being built from years of expensive proprietary Sony R&D like the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 were. Having not invested billions into the platform means Sony can cut their losses and not look entirely bad.
Come on really, the WiiU has barely been out for 2 months.
Based on that you could have said Japan did not want handhelds after the 3DS' initial slow start.
