Any news with 4chan in makes me sad.

I long for the day when all the assholes who fap to it are put behind bars where they belong.

They only attack people who piss them off like tween girls acting tough and this idiot. They do good too. They've help catch several animal abusers/killers and they even threw that lonely old man a birthday and reunited him with family.

Only once I'd say they went way too far but that was years ago when they were more brutal and heartless.

Fuck that. 4chan is full of a bunch of vile shit, but it's nice to have a group that isn't complacent. Internet vigilantes and villians all in one. You hate batman don't you?

The only GAF meme that I ever to my knowledge broke out to anywhere else was "I don't know how much you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert)..."

*sigh* Anonymous...bunch of whiners in basements.

Nope. This one originated from a IMDb post of some dude that was basically claiming to be a modern day Samurai (I think).

What's the point in hijacking his twitter account? They might humiliate him, but wouldnt' that just push him to give the info to FBI?
Anonymous found his list and posted it themselves. They are saying the list is bullshit and burr is an attention whore

Pretty much. There's not a single GAF meme that I know that has broken away, and very few of our own that's original (colored line guys, wolverine)

By 'fap to it' I mean obsess over the site and are part of anon.

As for the guy who asked why they should be behind bars, did you not read the op? There's one reason for you.

They've definitely done some good, I'll give them that. However, they can still be classified as criminals.

Oh and I love me some batman. Helping people is all well but this is helping not one person. Hacking into sites and accounts of normal people and harassing young girls doesn't help anyone.

XD I still remember "put shoe on head", although I can argue that I began that saying on the livejasmin chatrooms which then spread all around ytmnd - but who cares, that was a fun night lol

No, you can't. It came from the 419eater group. I first saw it around 2004.
(I mistakenly called it 411eater up above).
http://www.419eater.com/

Someone baited a nigerian 419 scammer into doing stupid stuff to "prove" details in an email.
Upon receiving a requested picture, the baiter replied "put shoe on head", and got another picture with the scammer's shoe on his head.

The livjasmine or whatever incident was 2006.

Every mieme database credits it to the 2006 incident. Sorry, gotta find proof. Either way, it didn't spawn the meme.

Should really make a thread to pound it into people's heads that GAF effect on internet culture is next to nil.

You misremember the old man thing. The ad for the party was only meant to be seen by people in his town. The old man had numerous friends and family. The guy's son or grandson begged the internet not to show up to the party because it was going to be an intimate party with friends and family and a large crowd showing up might overwhelm him. He still got a bunch of cards from the internet.

Hm, I just thought of it out of the blue. But maybe those that carried it on that night were thinking it was referencing the 419 scammer thing.

DDOS attacks.

Every time a story like this is posted I realize real life is less and less like the movies. If law enforcement really relies on idiots like this guy to do their sleuthing for them perhaps my impression of an all seeing eye monitoring the internet isn't quite a reality.

I would have thought that that they could pretty much track anyone down from just about anywhere for any reason at any moment if they really set their minds to it. Somehow it seems to always come down to a tipster or informant leaking information. Not them triangulating your position by haxing your IPs and stealing your internets.

You do understand that a lot of this kind of stuff comes from the /b/ board on 4chan, which is just one of like 49 total boards on the site. Linking 4chan as a whole to stuff like this is like saying NeoGAF is nothing but talk about sales numbers because that's a popular topic on the gaming side.

On a daily basis, a majority of the content posted on 4chan has nothing to do with the "Anonymous"-type stuff.

With the right tools you can ddos pretty successfully anonymously. Thats why the blowup with England vs Anonymous is happening. Anonymous jumped all over a hacker who devotes his time to shutting down jihadist sites because he downed Wikileaks site.

They figured he was small fish script kiddie so declared war on him. Turns out the guy is not one to fuck with and he edited the Programs used to DDOS and redistributed it to the script kiddies in Anon. The new version of the program forwards their info alongside the DDOS attack.

FBI just needs to start rigging up a gui in Visual Basic to track down anons. They're behind the times.

The pictures are long gone, but somehow this old page is still up on 419eater, part of an old old old user page that somehow wasn't deleted.

As you can see, back in 2003, the 419eater group had a proclivity for <thing> on head.

You can trawl webarchives or whatever if you want to find a 419eater one specifically mentioning a shoe. I doubt you'd be able to dig up a picture though. Believe me or don't, but "put shoe on head" did not come from livjasmine or whatever. The 419eater group predates that shit by at least 3 years that I personally know of.

Lost Fragment

Obsessed with 4chan
Saying Anonymous is a hacker group is like saying the United States is a hacker group because there happen to be people in the country that hack.

I like how Anonymous is referred to as a group...when it's just a bunch of random dudes from 4chan screwing around with people who annoy them

luxarific

Nork unification denier
So basically, this guy stood on the tallest hill he could find during a thunderstorm and held up a lighting rod, yelling "Hit me!"

Part of the hack (lol):

http://pastie.org/1535735

He was basically calling Anon out as a publicity stunt.

This is actually what I want. I want to start a verbal braul between us and keep it going because that will bring more media and more attention to a very important topic. But I do intent to emphasize that I have real names, that is a must, not for them but for the audience to know that this is possible, even for a 1337 group like anonymous.

But its not about them...its about our audience having the right impression of our capability and the competency of our research. Anonymous will do what every they can to discredit that. and they have the mic so to speak because they are on Al Jazeeera, ABC, CNN, etc.

I am going to keep up the debate because I think it is good business but I will be smart about my public responses.

Our audience needs to have the right impression.

Oh, they certainly do.

What I think bothers me the most about these Anon things is that they don't really stay anonymous, they just begin to call the group anonymous and their members are really just unknown.

The only memes to come from GAF are gaming related, and they're likely to get you punched in the kidney if you said them in real life

True, this and Megaton and Wall Guy are really our only ones.

We have short lived memes that quickly become overused and bannable, IE: go ly dow.
Or that shitty "feed it pizza" meme. ;\

Posting someone's social security number is going a bit far...
I disagree. This 'security expert was selling names of many dozens of people including address and what not. I think he is getting the right thing for being too cocky to do the FBI's work on his own like a vigilante. SSN was released to show that anon can do a lot more in a day than this guy can do in his entire research, and more.

Here's a fact: to fight Anon, you need to have another group like Anon with similar capabilities.

The hacker in question communicates from http://twitter.com/#!/th3j35t3r

Its been going on since he took down Wikileaks site after the cables leak started. The most recent thing was a few script kiddies getting arrested because of their data sent when DDOS attacking the credit card companies
