Marilyn Manson's version of Tainted Love and Placebo's cover of Running Up That Hill.

Both songs really work with a darker tone in my opinion.

Eva Cassidy's cover of Sting's Fields of Gold.

She died in 1996 at the age of 33 and was unknown outside of the Washington D.C. area at the time. She gained a small level of fame around 2000 when her cover version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow became a hit in the UK.

I recently discovered her music and she has an absolutely stunning voice.

Switch Back 9

a lot of my threads involve me fucking up somehow. Perhaps I'm a moron?
Pretty much every song Bob Dylan ever wrote. Love the man's music ...when performed by someone else. Great song writer but not the best sounding (imo)

I couldn't disagree more. Jeff Buckley does a fine job, but Leonard Cohen's the fucking man.

Cohen is a favorite of mine, but his original Hallelujah is a bad arrangement. A lot of covers improve on it.

I'll go with Tim Buckley covering his own Song to the Siren: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMTEtDBHGY4

This Mortal Coil does a great version, but this is so simple and perfect. "This is Tim Buckley..."

Oh, and The Pogues version of Dirty Old Town: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF9dHxbDa5w

When You say Nothing at All

(Original?) Ronan Keating https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xrxrEEGVdM

(Cover) Alison Krauss https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SCOimBo5tg

I like both, to be fair.

The original is actually by Keith Whitley https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...=rSx4ZV5BVXQEd7nU8tNQ7A&bvm=bv.88528373,d.aWw

After giving both of the covers you linked a quick listen, imo, Ronan Keating's version is clearly the inferior one of the three. Alison and Kieth's are both good.

Might seem blasphemous to some, but I like Dead Sara's cover of Heart Shaped Box more than the original from Nirvana. It's not very different, really, I just prefer the vocals.

Amy Winehouse's "Hey Little Rich Girl" which is a cover of an original by The Specials. While I like both, I think her version is much more fun.

Guignol + Mischief Brew - "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is a very different take on Iron Maiden's original, but I find myself enjoying it more. I think it's because Maiden had some cheesy, power metal-esque fucking vocals.

The Slackers - "Our Day Will Come" is my favorite rendition of this song originally by Ruby and the Romantics. The bass line is just perfect, and the vocalist is none other than Doreen Shaffer, founding member of The Skatalites.

I hate most remakes, especially all the crappy techno remakes I hear lately (and I like techno, electronica type music).

Some good old full on song covers:

Cowboy Junkies - Blue Moon
Nirvana - Man Who Sold the World
Seu Jorge - Life on Mars
Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal
Guns n Roses - Knocking on Heaven's Door
UB40 - Red Red Wine

"This is Halloween" by Marilyn Manson

"Forever Young" Dune

I know there is at least one other but can't remember it right now.
