Sonic Forces - Casino Forest gameplay

This looks decent enough, but it does give off low budget last gen vibes. Everything else I have seen of this title looks beyond awful, that recent story trailer in particular.

Is it me or does this level look lazy? I feel like they could've done more with the jungle ruin/ casino aesthetics and all the gimmicks of the level are ripped right out of casino night and spring yard.

rough ass physics and don't get me started on the lighting

From a level design perspective, it seems okay.

But from a visual design perspective, it looks pretty ugly. Very barren, dark, and muddy. It doesn't even look like it's even remotely close to pushing whatever system it's supposed to be on.

Besides the lack of enemies in the clip which will likely be fixed when the full version of this level is playable the clip shown of casino forest look fine.

Why does it look so empty?

The game is out in a month. This footage is probably not too far from what we're getting unless they intend to release a day-one patch.

Man, this doesn't feel like a Sonic Team game at all. You can say a lot about their games, but they always nail the art direction and soundtrack. Neither of those have impressed me so far.

As someone who enjoyed Colors and Generations, I don't think this game will be bad, but if this is what they spent four years on making I can't help but be disappointed.

Looks ...just boring?

the 2d section in this entire game looks meh at best. wish this was a full on 3d sonic only game

I'm liking the stage theme, but is Sonic Team's Sound Team on vacation or something? This music has grabbed me the least of all Sonic games since... Heroes...?

Why would they be showing WIP footage 6 weeks before release tho

Now that I thought about it a bit the lack of enemies in this level could be connected to the game's story somewhow? It's likely also this is just a part of the level being shown.

The scale just seems really off, and the visual noise that's going on in really jarring and makes just looking at things hard. I love the level concept, but it's just empty and barren.

I'm hoping they have the HUD hidden because they're redesigning it - what we've seen so far is just abnormally large and taking up way too much screen real estate. (also inspector gadget theme Kappa)

Edit: There are zero enemies in this. Also what's going on here?

Was the first thing I noticed. Sonic Generations physics indeed

At least the Casino Night motif isn't blatantly reused as Green Hill was

That being said, asthetic wise it makes me think of the unused Wood Zone crossed with Casino Night

Edit: Idea, EggmanLand Remastered as a tag team act, Custom Character for the Werehog sections

More like Lost World's Forest Level and Tropical Resort? Damn this looks like they really are reusing legacy assets

Man one of my biggest problems with 3D Sonic is how he looks tiny compared to the stage assets and then loses that speedy feeling, dunno everything looks and feels dull...
2D Sonic has better proportions.

looks like ugly garbage

gameplay doesn't look the tiniest smidge better than Generations which came out 5 years ago

what the fuck was that music

sonic mania was pretty cool

I didn't even think about that, there was little threat anywhere in that stage.

Looks kinda bad. The physics are all wonky for Sonic, the lighting makes it really difficult to see anything, and the level looks like a random amalgamation of assets.

None of the levels shown except for avatar Green Hill have any kind of build up or escalation in them. They just end at a random point. Classic Sky Sanctuary and Crisis City this is not.

That looked decent, but Mania seems to do Classic Sonic gameplay way better, and I'm still not sold on their Modern Sonic or Avatar gameplay.

Should be obvious why they were hesistant to showcase this. The clash between this goofy casino level and the super edgy and serious plot is funny though.

I love how your posts in Forces threads can be distilled down to "this looks shit, Mania is awesome"

Not that you're necessarily wrong, mind. You're probably right.
