Blows me away how everyone is very into the idea of cross-platform play but nobody is willing to hold Sony's feet to the fire for it.
Yeah. It's a pretty good filter. If somebody is against crossplay or puts the blame on MS for lack of PS4/Xone cross-play you know 100% for sure they are a fanboy. There aren't exceptions, since there aren't any other reasons to be against it, or to not admit Sony is wrong here, at all.
This thread. Damn.

The only way to actually hold Sony's feet to the fire on this topic is to sell your PS4 and purchase / move your support to the Xbox One.
Until the decision to reject cross-platform play hurts Sony financially they won't feel any obligation to change.

I was thinking more along the lines of some actual vocal outrage but sure, we could just jump to selling PS4's if you want.
i find people who say fuck sony are really strange.
MS was more uptight than this last gen and they didnt allow either
few things people need to consider
1- when you are the underdog , you need to look good. and your userbase is shit , you dont want people to leave you for the competitor in order to find a game online fast. so you want a cross play.
2- Sony without any other network have a shitty infrastructure . without them opening any servers they are getting fucked being hacked. you can kiss your account good bye as soon as they open their shit.
I can go on really but eh.

LOLIt's an irrelevant question, because they're not leading the race... and so it doesn't actually affect reality at all.
I think Sony's the guy in grey, and children's safety is the guy in green.
I can say "fuck Sony" while also saying "fuck MS".i find people who say fuck sony are really strange.

This is not how any of this works.i find people who say fuck sony are really strange.

This message was sponsored by Good Guy Phil Spencer. Please follow @PhilSpencerFarts on Twitter for updates on when he farts. My name is Phil Spencer and I'll say anything to make me look like the good guy
This is not how any of this works.
It's not like they've not got a new CEO with entirely new upper management with a board reshuffle which prefer making technologies and concepts open and not proprietary.Number 2 makes no sense but Number 1 is absolutely why this sudden push for cross play is happening from them and you're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. It's the best way to consolidate what users you do have and potentially stop you from bleeding customers. I don't blame them either, I think it's clever. I do find this comment weird though, considering PC and Xbox cross play was in but was then removed specifically at Microsoft's request.
People continually defending Sony on this and throwing shade at Spencer. Classic Gaf.
Oh, I think it's an absolutely shitty policy from Sony and think the only reason they're doing it because they're so far ahead this gen that they've practically lapped Microsoft. I just think the Phil Spencer worship - albeit not in this thread - is a bit of a joke. Just like the past Reggie worship.People continually defending Sony on this and throwing shade at Spencer. What he is actually saying is shut up and don't talk bad about my favorite console's corporation.
In another question, what ever happened to the petition campaign to force Sony's hand at giving us Crossplay?
So Sony should just give up competitive advantage to it's direct competitor? Business doesn't work like that.
Is that your opinion as a gamer, or a shareholder?

The more games that support cross-play excluding PS4, the more liklier Sony are to budge.

Weird read, who in this thread is "against crossplay"?This thread is already off to a great start, but I find it quite perplexing anybody is trying to put the blame on MS here or act like Sony is in the right, at all. Straight up no reason to be against crossplay other than fanboyism.
Yo if you're going to try to spin this as something MS did bad at least put some effort in. Right now this post just makes it look like you made that up and don't have the proof that you didn't.
Edit: I went through all of Fortnite's patch notes and in none of them do they even mention Xbox/PC crossplay, much less say that MS asked them to take it out.
Why?Yup it's bad for your health. So let's say Sony does agree to cross-play you better be satisfied. I don't want the to a single thread when Phil says "I would love to play Horizon Zero Dawn or Uncharted on my Xbox..." lol! We got to draw the line somewhere!
It's not like they've not got a new CEO with entirely new upper management with a board reshuffle which prefer making technologies and concepts open and not proprietary.
For example: MS are now on the Linux board; .NET compiler open source; MSSQL runs on Linux and Open source VS built on open source tech.
That's all since Sataya has took over. See what I'm getting at?
Seems most would rather do PCxPS4/Xbox though, than exclude PS4, so unlikely Sony will get much pressure from that.
I think the only realistic way they reconsider is if they receive massive amounts of backlash (like Xbox One DRM levels) from all consumers, not just the more hardcore ones. I think when the Better Together Update releases for everything but PS, they'll get a lot more shit than they've receive yet for it. Doubt it'll be enough for them to change their stance (I think they will with the PS5), but who knows?
I keep forgetting this but it's right. Doesn't matter how much bs ms is spewing, the best chance for crossplay to happen is if Sony are pressured into it.God dammit this thread went to shit fast. Jesus christ, really makes me reconsider my stance of cross-play if we can't even talk about the possibility of it without console warz.
Of course I kid, I believe most people aren't as immature. For me it doesn't matter if Phil Spencer is just doing it for his reputation since I think him continuing to shine the spotlight on cross-play helps the push for it massively, and what Phil Spencer gets out of it is irrelevant to me since by the end of the day what I care about is cross-play, not Phil Spencer.
It wasn't vocal backlash that turned Microsoft though. It was the resulting poor pre-order numbers.
Bad PR only matters when it starts to impact profits. Corporations don't get guilted into doing the right things - they wouldn't last if they did: they see a descending line on a profitability chart and try to address it.
Basic crossplay doesn't really let you play with friends though, it just improves player pools for matchmaking.Look right now if you have an Xbox and you want to play with your friends on PS4 you gotta get a PS4.
If you can cross play then that's a potential lost sale.
I feel like some of you don't understand business, Sony has a duty to their shareholders. Benefiting Microsoft doesn't benefit them.
This is classic Microsoft playing the victim when they're the underdog.

I guess I'll not replace my broken ass PS4 which lasted less than two years and just play cross play on PC. Shit like this is embarrassing when you talk like you're some Fortune 500 employee that understands Sony better than anyone.Look right now if you have an Xbox and you want to play with your friends on PS4 you gotta get a PS4.
