TCL P607 P Series ( the new mid range/budget 4k/HDR recommendation)

Okay, I feel like an idiot. I just said fuck it and plugged the PC straight into the TV and an optical cable into from the Motherboard into the receiver. 5.1 works fine now. This should at least tide me over until I get a new receiver.

Saving up for a new receiver. Got 4K running into this bitch on my PC. Looks great.

So, is this TV still considered great? Found an LG 65" 4K HDR TV with local dimmin for $800 the other day and may pick that up if this TV isn't worth it.

So you are saying I can go there with all the people swearing, acting like they are 10 and dropping uncensored pictures in the middle of threads so they can get banned?

I keep getting an error loading shows on Hulu after turning the tv off for a bit. I can only fix it by hard resetting my tv. Kind of annoying every time I want to watch Hulu.

Anyone know whats up with this?

Oh shit. What are the issues with it?

My first one had at least one dead pixel and some white lines across the screen

My second one is better, but it has a thing with dark spots at the corners/bottom of the screen. It's of course up to you if issues like that would bother you.

The second part wouldn't bother me that much, but the first part sounds like wherever you bought it from allowed for the screen to be banged around if white lines were on it. That's sounds messed up. Still, I really do appreciate the heads-up. In-person, it looks outstanding and for under $1,000, it's an incredibly tempting deal with Dunkirk coming out in December.

Yeah if that doesn't bother you then I'd definitely recommend it.

I'm not the only one who needs to use dolby vision bright settings when i'm able to use dark HDR for everything else, right?

ALSO: I wish Roku would cut a deal like apple did for 4K HDR content.

Does anyone know if the p605/7 will be available in 49''?

I'd like the better HDR, but im on a budget and size constraint, and I've been looking at the 49'' s405 as cheaper alternative. I'm replacing an LG 43LE5300 from 2010 that my neighbor gave me. (Using for gaming only, and I'm well aware that the s405 brightness and HDR is significantly worse)

No. They canceled the planned 50" and 65" inch

With the XB1X around the corner could someone make a sticky wiki in the OP with optimal settings for this particular TV?

I've tried messing with the settings a bit but I don't really know what I'm doing.

Would love to get gaf approved settings for this thing with 1X and PS4Pro

Rtings and Cnet have settings for this tv if you want to check those out

Hey guys just bought the P605. So I'm having issues setting up HDR. Under Xbox settings 4K is selected but says your tv setup doesn't support HDR10 for gaming. Games won't be shown in HDR. It's not allowing me to select it.. help?

I'm sure someone knows for sure, but I'll hazard a guess.

Try setting the HDMI to 2.0 in the TV's HDMI settings?

That actually worked. Allowed me I select HDR. Next question is when I load Netflix it says HDR in the top right.. is it supposed to say that when I load an HDR enabled Xbox one s game?

Probably. It always displays HDR or the Dolby symbol for Dolby Vision when the TV detects the content.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
So I just read somewhere that the P605 is 60hz and the P607 is 120hz. Is this true?
I tried to search for the answer but I didnt really find anything.

No. They're the same TV. The 607 has a remote with a headphone jack and is sold exclusively by Amazon.

Let me repeat:
They are the same TV in every way.

Is anyone else really bothered with the grey uniformity on this TV? It's unbelievably distracting in games with solid backgrounds, like old NES games, or recently South Park: Fractured but Whole. And today I was playing Mario Odyssey and there are just big smudges of grey visible. It's so distracting to me that I'm having trouble concentrating on the game itself. I want to return it, but it's been almost 3 months now and I threw the box away. I thought it was something I could live with at first, but it's become more and more distracting the longer I've owned the TV.

My first set had really bad greyy uniformity to the point that I did exchange it and my second tv is much better but it's still noticeable from time to time. I don't mind dark sports in the corners, it's when it looks like dark strips going across the screen that piss me off.

So how bad are the viewing angles on this set? Ive only owned TVs with great viewing angles to this point (IPS and plasma displays). We have one couch directly in front of the TV, but the other is in an "L" configuration to the side. Will watching from that couch be shit?

Great TVs. We just built a house and I needed all new TVs,so I bought two of the S405 and one of the P605(for my office). Going from a 1080p Panasonic to the P605 on my Xbox was a nice surprise.

Just picked this up Saturday at BB. Had to return it because the first one had a big dim spot towards the bottom of the screen, just left of center. The second one is perfect though. I love the HDR notification you get to let you know when you're watching HDR content. I also love the lack of a motion smoother option as I've always hated it.

The biggest thing for me as a big gamer though is the input lag, or rather, lack there of. It's so much better than my regular Samsung 1080p set, even with HDR enabled. It's just so much more responsive than a lot of TV's, and given the size and picture quality, that's amazing for a $600 Set.

I feel like TCL concentrated on the things that really matter to me and did it for $600. I'm glad I waited until I did to jump into the 4K/HDR game because this is everything I was looking for and came in at $200 less than anything else even remotely comparable.

Where did you get yours for $600? I see it online for $650 and up. lol

Yeah it's awesome. My friend told me about the sale on them a few weeks back and I went and got one. I was planning on doing the whole deep dive TV research thing and get a super TV next year, but when he showed me this I just went out and bought one. They were sold out all over town too. I got the 3rd to last, another guy was coming in to pick up his as I was picking up mine, and another guy called while I was there to order the last one. Per the sales guy anyhow.

I kind of feel like if you looked up 'Bang for your Buck' right now it'd have a picture of this TV. The whole Roku thing is an added bonus too. I was really just going for the 4K/HDR but my wife loves all the Roku channels/apps/etc. It's a pretty damn cool TV, like the modern equivalent to an old CRT TV that had a DVD player + VHS player in one (I had one).

It's $599 at Best Buy. BB only carries the P605 version, instead of the P607 that most other places carry. The $50 difference is that the 605's remote doesn't have a headphone jack for private listening. But it doesnt matter since you can dowload the Roku app for the TV on your phone.

Yeah, I totally forgot to mention how awesome it is that Roku is built-in. BB has a promo too where you get a free month of SlingTV($40 value), when you buy this TV.

Luckily I got the last one they had after I returned the first one. I have until January too to price-match if there are any sales within the next couple months.

P605 it is then! Don't need a $50 just for a lame remote, haha. Thanks for the heads up. And looks like I have my final TV. Off to Best Buy I'll be going.

You're gonna love it. Make GotG 2 your first 4K HDR watch if you can, you'll be absolutely blown away. I had the same feeling as when I watched Casino Royale on Blu-ray for the first time. The clarity, color and dynamic lighting are memorizing. I felt like I was viewing another world through a square portal, haha. It's just ridiculous.

Assassins Creed Origins is also amazing if your looking for a great HDR game.
