The handling in the first game wasn't bad. But this looks terrible. No sense of traction or grip.
I'm really new to racing games. Could you explain how I should be able to notice handling and grip from just watching the video? I'm not trying to call you out, just genuinely curious.

I don't know. Some people are real particular about this stuff. Maybe the handling isn't 100% simulation perfect but cruising around Hawaii with a friend was so awesome in the first game and I can't wait to cruise around Ibiza in this one.

I never saw the first game as a sim or an an arcade racer, I treated it as an open world where you can do a ton of shit, cruise, race and if you felt like it go offroad to find hidden portals, I never really got into the game at the time but right now it's something I would love to sit and play when I have spare time, more so then a lot of other games.

I am tempted to pre-order the 360 version so I can get a bonus car and the casino, it's been a long time however since I paid more then £17.95 for a new game :p so I am still thinking it over.

"There's a hardcore mode. It's not 100% simulation, but it's definitely challenging unless you're an experienced driver, as the handling assists are disabled and you can easily lose control of your car if you're not careful."

"We'll always continue to do our best to support the hardcore audience by tweaking the handling assists and increasing the driving precision, even after launch. Additionally, we've made a lot of improvements since the last beta build."

Many in the beta forums complained about the handling and they tried to fix it in some builds, but it still sucked. I laughed when they started a fucking survey about the car handling.

So, how's the handling of that Shelby GT500?
[_] moar grip!
[_] moar understeering pls!
[_] purrfect!
etc

So this comning out february 11 (EU) and I am certainly getting this. I loved TDU, so this is almost a no-brainer. I mean, how bad can they fuck it up, right?

Anyone else day 1 on this?

I've had this sucker preordered since early fall (I thought it was supposed to come out in October.) Can't wait.

Even though I think the handling looks atrocious (I did like TDU1 though!) I'll probably end up buying it and still enjoy driving my Nissan GTR around an island for hours to come.

I will start whining if I don't get used to the handling though, be prepared.

Good man, good man.

What I loved about the first game was the big open-world that just lets you drive all over the place and enter races when you felt like it.

I hope we get more games like this.

Yeah so do I. I have fond memories of the first one, both playing on my own and cruising around with a friend and finding neat places all over the place (the race track, the secret island.)

I played the first one a lot with a buddy. Cruising around in our muscle cars was quite amazing. But I just can´t get excited after the beta :/

They really have that little of a clue? :\
They claim to have a proper physics engine this time, so it at least ought to be better than the first game to some degree.

It can be just like the 1st game. I couldn't care less. Had much enjoyment cruising around the island and doing all of the events especially spending an hour (?) getting around the island under the time limit. Also 100%'d every nook and cranny. Game had gorgeous interiors. Great car inspection mode. Give me more.

Beta ran like crap the whole time. Game doesn't look good enough to explain the performance.

I really hope they found a way to make it run better. Car interiors are sweet in 19x10 though.

i loved the first one, i hope they don't fuck this one up. all the videos they have released were about buying virtual shit and having virtual partys with your virtual friends.. ugh..

First review

Concept:
Have car will travel. Ibiza and Oahu are yours for the cruising
Graphics:
Seeing the day-to-night cycle come and go is a gorgeous sight, and overall the game looks great given the sheer amount of content
Sound:
You have two radio stations in your cars – the electronic Hariba Radio and Road Rock. Too bad you can’t import your own tunes
Playability:
You’ll be able to notice cars’ different acceleration, overall speed, and other characteristics, so developing a full garage is useful
Entertainment:
It’s as fun as a vacation on a resort island should be

8.5

What the hell? The original had about 5 or 6 stations covering multiple genres and the option to use your own music, why would they cut all that and force you to listen to rock music? If this is true then pre-order cancelled, the more I see and hear about this game the further it seems to be straying from what I loved about TDU1.

I'm trying to cancel my pre-order at Atari.com since I don't have a PC that can run it right now. I hope to play it when I do have a good PC

Atari makes is so hard to cancel a pre-order cannot find a page

Looking forward to the game next week. Too bad there are no Lamborghinis in the game. I was in the beta (what little beta there was) and I did like driving around Ibiza. Though, the best part was sitting in the casino playing slots. Ha, ha!! As long as we have the ability to make black people, I'll be happy. Couldn't do that in the beta and they didn't comment on whether it was going to be possible, either.

Get hype, bitches! It's just around the corner!

Should I preorder? Oh man, I don't know! The car looks sweet, but maybe there will be a preorder sale...

Just pre-ordered this after giving the first game a solid spin for a full day this weekend. Man, I think I may be in love.

Every other racing game is too constricting, even something as fully featured as a GT5 or Forza. You're still primarily limited to circuits, which may be one of the most boring creations of man. Test Drive Unlimited gives you virtual circuits over the open world terrain for events and challenges, as well as free roam on and off road whenever you want. That maps are gi-fucking-normous, I mean, truly gargantuan, with a sense of freedom and exploration I have yet to see in other driving games. Even Burnout Paradise keeps you to the road 95% of the time, but I can now see why people wanted a GPS system like TDU in Paradise. The GPS system is perfect, as well it should be, since its orders of magnitude larger than Paradise in terms of drivable area.

Now, TDU2 has day night cycles (and thus a new lighting overhaul), changing weather conditions and off road vehicles so I'm now a full convert and ready for day one. And the single/multiplayer blend in the game is one of the most successful innovations this gen.

Makes me wonder why this game was never really on my radar until now.

Screw it, I'm just preordering. I want to support this brilliance as much as possible!

Which preorder bonuses have you GAFfers gone for?

I've got the Veyron Supersport and Casino coming, along with the promise of a Carbon Black Special Edition Vanquish (off a friend who doesn't want it).

Few more days to go over here, though (hopefully come a day early on Thurs) - and the wait is KILLING me now!
