The Day of the Beast
Accion Mutante
The Dead Mother
Sex and Lucia
The Red Squirrel
Jamon Jamon
The Spirit of the Beehive
Pan's Labyrinth
Tesis

Anything by Pedro Almodovar

Who can forget "La Vida Sigue Igual" with this young Julio Iglesias STUDMUFFIN:

Apparently most everyone wants to forget, including Julio himself, but the soundtrack is fucking ACE
(It's on both the Nada Es Igual and Yo Canto albums if you want it)

EDIT: I FOUND THE OPENING SONG YAY

Some of the best ones has already being listed here, but ok:

El día de la bestia - Black comedy about a priest and a metalhead trying to stop the antichrist. Hilarious and gory stuff.

[REC]- Great horror movie, think Cloverfield or the blair witch project but done right.

El Orfanato - Even better horror movie, albeit with a more classic premise.

El caballero del dragón - One of the extremely rare scifi Spanish movies since people here loathe the genre :(. The premise is cool: a spaceship appears in the middle ages, is mistook by a dragon...

Intacto - Underrated film with supernatural elements about a guy that steals the luck of others.

El crack - A very unkown, underrated Spanish film noire. The adventures of an ugly and short, yet extremely baddass private detective.

Perros callejeros - An extremely grim potrait of the low class violence in Spain.

Tesis - Remember "murder in 35mm"? well, this is the film that inspired it and naturally, way superior.

Tapas - If you want to have a look into the modern Spanish society and "barrios", this is your film. Not only is good costumbrist movie, but also quite charming and funny.

El albergue español / l'aubergue espagnole (albeit a French movie, half of it is spoke on Spanish). The adventures and misadventures of a French Erasmus student on Barcelona.

Airbag - Frantic and politically incorrect action comedy about a couple of wealthy friends getting into serious trouble with the mafia.

¿Quién puede matar a un niño?- Awesome, awesome terror movie, think "the children of corn" but with less supernatural elements.

La cabina - One of the best short movies ("cortos") that our cinema has ever made - very unsettling too. Must watch.

The Spirit of the Beehive - Very good film, but quiet harsh and arid as well (pretty intellectual movie).

Also, any movie made by Buñuel and most movies of Almodovar.

Abre los ojos[/B] (Don't watch the American adaptation, named Vanilla Sky)

Abre los ojos was a great movie, but telling someone to avoid Vanilla Sky is a crime. The sheer complexity and emotional involvement to the characters is fantastic in both, but I really think the people who say Abre los ojos is better than Vanilla Sky truly didn't understand it. I feel Vanilla Sky offers a much deeper experience, and to this day is one of my favorite movies of all time. I didn't that with Abre los ojos (but once again, I do find it to be a really good movie.)

I always feel, like Vanilla Sky was too explicit, while Abre los Ojos, always left more to the viewer imagination. I did like in fact Vanilla Sky, but for me Abre los ojos, it's better, from actor performances to direction, so if you have to watch one of the two I recommend Abre los ojos.

Well, actually the soundtrack was better on Vanilla Sky, I give you that. :lol

Days like these...

-The Devil's Backbone is a decent Del Toro movie.

-The Orphanage isn't that great, but watchable if you just want to be exposed to Spanish.

-[REC] is awesome.

-I want to see the animated movie, Nocturna. I think Spanish is its original language.

Dont listen to this man REC is pretty horrible, The Orphanage is much better.

Also one more vote for Volver and some penelope cruz goodness!

I watched Obre Los Ojos just to figure out what it could have to make it any better in anyone's mind and it's the exact same movie. Perhaps the only difference is that instead of being obscenely rich the Cruise character is just really, really rich and his face is disfigured much worse in the original version.

I don't like either anyway. It's lifestyle porn where you fantasize about life as a rich, playboy who gets to choose which hot chick to bang. Both are just too hollow and transparently pornographic. Like most of Cameron Crowe's stuff.

Here's a link to Pedro Almodovar's work.

I've seen three of his works and liked each immensely.

Seriously, this thread is full of fail... unless you're specifically talking about films from Spain shot in colour.
