The Official Red Faction: Guerilla Thread of Rhinopackin' through Space

I would take this lovely opportunity and tell Volition fuck you AND your glitchy ass shit.

After I ended up on 101/104 guerrilla missions complete on my first run, I forced myself to reboot from scratch on a new save because I got NOTHING but already finished/random convoy missions.

Now, Im at the fucking Dust territory before taking the last liberation mission TRYING to get a hold of the final convoy capture mission (Oasis->chem depot) in the area... Ive been driving for more than a hour, waiting at several different location for it to spawn.

What the fuck.

I cant believe youve made such a ridiculously taunting trophy/achievement. What further pisses me off is that EVERYONE else that I know HAS the fucking trophy while Im depending on friggin luck and patience to get it. Its basically the ONLY thing that stand between me and the platinum trophy.

I swear Volition....

Note sure if you saw the announcement yet, but we just released details on our 3rd DLC Pack - the "Smasher Pack". Available October 1st, it contains 8 new maps for Wrecking Crew, plus a new Wrecking Crew mode called Behemoth, where you get to control any of the 3 Walkers found in the SP campaign.

We've been playtesting Behemoth internally for a little while, and decided to have a little competition over this new mode, so we grabbed a few cameras to capture the action. Part one can be found at the link below, and parts two and three will be released next week to coincide with the release.

Community Site Link: http://community.redfaction.com/content/dlc-pack-3-dev-diary-part-1
YouTube HD Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nmzFW5QwOk&hd=1

Hope you enjoy the vid and look forward to parts 2 and 3. The Smasher Pack DLC will be released on October 1st for 400 MS Points (XBL) or $4.99 (PSN).

Also, for those PC users above, we've been working directly with Reactor Zero on some fixes for the game for some of the issues players have been reporting. All notes can be found in the "Troubleshooting" section of our community forums.

are you guys further tuning the game on 360 or PS3?

Wow you guys certainly didn't waste any time releasing the 3rd DLC pack. :D

I remember reading that 3 sets of DLC were planned, so is that still the case?

Niiiice, new wrecking crew stuff! Red Faction is easily my most-played game when people come over, it seems the kind of game what anyone can pick up and have fun with from the off - new maps and walkers sound just the treat to extend it a little more! Just this weekend me and two buddies spent at least 3 hours playing, it really is an excellent mode. Count me in!

Good god, I still cant believe it but I just got the platinum trophy. I was almost getting a mental breakdown from what the game puts you through to get the trophies.

Its like jumping through hoops and every hoop has to be perfect.

Remind me to never go through this again, I felt nauceous going to the lengths of completing all those trophy requirements .... now I'll complete the demons of badlands DLC and move on to a much easier trophy game... phew...

Still no PC patch. :\

Looks like RFG is going to join Saints Row 2, Prototype, and Kane and Lynch in the land of shit PC ports.

It's not that bad of a port though a patch and it will be fine but it's not perfect but it's not bad either.

What's wrong with Kane and Lynch? I found performance great, just like all UE3 games on the PC. Even included splitscreen co-op, which was nice.

So it does not look like the new DLC adds any Achievements or Trophies... why not? It wont keep me from buying but just curious why more achievements have not been added since the first DLC pack.

Kane and Lynch was not based on UE3. The game was designed using IOs custom engine that was also used for Hitman Blood Money.

The problem was that performance under Vista was completely screwed up. Simply looking in certain directions caused the framerate to dip into the teens. Running it under XP solved the issues. They never released a patch for the game and nobody from Eidos ever responded to any tech complaints people were having (of which there were many).

Wait, what's wrong with the PC version? Outside of some poor mouse control when "fine aiming" and some odd slowdown at one of the safehouses, I haven't noticed any problems.

For a lot of users, the game simply runs too fast. This has serious impacts on a lot of different aspects of the game. Furthermore, 5.1 audio is completely broken for most people as well (you have to disable surround in order to hear non-garbled audio).

Ah, I always thought it was UE3 based as it used a lot of very similar rendering techniques and performance was similar. No such issues on Vista SP2 X64 here, I found performance at 1080p with all settings AA/AF cranked to be very good. I just set the refresh rate to 50hz (a great trick for those that like steady framerates, I use it all the time) and triple buffered and any dips wer very rare and not at all severe when they did happen, and this is at 1080p, w/ soft shadows and all.

GFWL support w/ achivements, full 360 pad support, co-op splitscreen, it was all good on my end.

Just started the PC version, and I'm loving it so far. Never did pick it up over the summer as I decided to get just one open world game, and picked inFamous (which I loved too). I'm not having any performance issues playing it on medium or so settings, and it still looks pretty good. I've finished liberating the first three sections, and am finding it easy to lose track of the hours as you hop from one task to the next. The lower price for the PC release, combined with some included DLC plus the first two games for preordering it just made the deal too enticing of a package to pass up.

What’s going on with the multiplayer? Why is hardly anyone playing it anymore? I stopped playing it for a few weeks and had absolutely no trouble finding matches then......but now it’s pretty much dead.

Team Anarchy is still the best for when finding people to play with but I wanted to try out Bagman/Team Bagman for the first time and only found one person in the lobby after waiting for like 10 minutes.

All the other multiplayer modes are more or less dead too.......WHY!? Why is no one playing this anymore!? I’m starting to get sick of Team Anarchy and wanna play something else! Explain yourself GAF!

Multiplayer, put simply, fucked. Everything else is fine though (although i had a problem with Nvidia cards, which for years the game had a wierd chug to it, even on minimum detail, which was only fixed in recent drivers, always fine with ATI).

I tried to play a couple of matches today, but had to wait like 10 minutes to start each, really depressing, considenring that volition is constantly updating the game

Yep, they're doing a fantastic job with patching/DLC for the multiplayer, which does make it even more depressing. Not to mention that the multiplayer is still amazing!

. wasd vehicle controls + rugged terrain
+ stupid ally ai + tons of escort missions (and you have to do a lot) + being punished when they die
+ enormous but empty world that takes forever to get anywhere
+ maybe five mission types that you have to do over and over again
= fun for a few hours as it is but i don't see why they had to make us do the same shit so much. they could've made a good 7-8 hour game instead of prolonging it (i'm guessing it's "15-20").

you've got geomod 2 and it's amazing. so why am i doing things that aren't destroying buildings the entire time?

I have a weird relationship with this game, I want to love it- hell even bought the first DLC but haven't dumped more than an hour of time into it. When I get the urge to want ot play it, once it starts I go back to the dashboard..:lol

It's 4.30 AM and I really had force myself away from the game. Wow, just wow.

I rented this game for the Autumn drought as it had pretty solid reviews and many people in GAF seemed to like it. I had it waiting for a month or so on my shelf and finally started to play yesterday. I had no idea even of the style of the game, that it'd be like GTA.

The first mission in the game, destroying the building, really got my attention, it was awesome. But then what followed was several hours of pretty boring stuff. I was already going to give up when I reached the 3rd area and suddenly the pace of the game really started to pick up. All sorts of cool missions and items appeared and completely hooked me.

I've been now destroying stuff and killing soldiers for some 6 hours straight, using all sorts of vehicles and gear, and I have no doubt I could do it through the night to sunrise. Funnily enough, the last time I've done that was with Blast Corps. It, too, had an addictive structure of "just one more destruction mission". Also, the strategy and planning needed in some of the harder missions is very similar to Blast Corps.

All these years I've wanted a sequel to Blast Corps. I never imagined Red Faction would be it.

The campaign was suprisingly great, would rate it among my most enjoyable playthroughs this gen so far.
The multiplayer on the other hand, can be fun -- love the rhino pack >: D -- but, there's two things working against it. The first is that there's hardly anyone playing it anymore :/. The second one and most annoying is the hardcore lag isssues/disconnecting going on, sometimes in the middle of matches. What's up with that?

Oh and the enforcer is probably one of the lamest gun designs ever created, especially online, whoever thought up the idea to put that in the game should be spanked, HARD. Other than that, my compliments to Volition inc.

Finally gave this game a try the other day. I really love the destructive buildings so far... its generally fun to just blow shit up. Don't care too much for the story right now but hey, I like it when things go boom.

Picked up the PC version for 9.99 on clearance at Target, have to say this is a really fun game. Wish my FPS didn't fluctuate so much during the destruction but guess it was bound to happen.

Well it's much easier now to find games thanks to an update that’s disabled some of the play-lists and added some of them into a group. You can read about the update here.

As for the lag, I usually get like a 1 second delay, 2 at the most. Personally I think it's very reliable. And when it occasionally runs into a problem it takes like 5 seconds to fix.

I just make sure I have a book handy to read while I'm waiting for the matchmaking to kick in - I swear if the games loaded faster I'd never get any of my readings done for my university classes! :lol

Can anyone give me any tips, I have 103/104 guerrilla actions complete. I know there's a map out there of all the 'call-out' missions but that doesn't seem to help since I don't know which ones I have or haven't done. Thanks in advance! :D

Random: I FINALLY GOT THIS GAME!

two Blockbusters closing by my house, seen Red Faction there, got it for $24, woot!

(side note: I've already beat the game when I rented, but damn I need to own this game)

Does not having the DLC lock you out of any gametypes in multiplayer?

I recently got back into this(Serious;y more games need the geo-mod! Please!) and I came across something.

I came across this news artical saying that Demons of the Bad Lands comes with the PC version. Really? I never actually knew that. How do I access it? Is it after the main story or what?

Okay, how do you manage to get your staff to perform decently on camera? This and the Ostrich video makes me wish you guy had some sort of TV show.

So is the MP dead on 360?

I was just playing last week, and I was still able to find games within a few of the modes within a minute or so of wait time. Granted, this was prime time (~9PM CST). Also, if I can manage to get a certain event to pass through the appropriate people, there could be a lot of people on and playing soon. ;)

Remember that without the original Ostrich photoshop, that video never would've been made. We actually did hold tryouts inside the company to find people who could actually act and seem believable in the role. I really like making these (even though they take weeks to cast/film/edit), and I'm sure we'll have more in the future.

Oh, and for anyone that has a friend who hasn't picked up RFG on 360 (or needs a x-mas gift), NewEgg has it for $20 right now.

Played through the singleplayer when the game first came out and really enjoyed it, messed around with the mulitplayer a bit then moved on.

What's the verdict on the Demons of the Badlands DLC? Worth picking up or no?

After finally finishing this I have to say. The characters sucked, the story was weak, the performance on PC was janky, the multiplayer was dead, but god DAMN it was fun. I can't believe how fun it is blowing stuff up.

More games need the geomod. More dammit! It's a million times better than everything else.

^^^ Our Holiday Card (click to enlarge)

For those that didn't hear, we're running our "Get Your Ass Back to Mars" Event right now.

Instead of the usual double or less frequent triple XP that most games run, we’re launching our “Get Your Ass Back to Mars” Event with a bang by giving all players on 360 and PS3 five full days worth of quintuple XP. You read that correctly, 5x XP for 5 entire days across every mode from Anarchy to Siege.

For the Achievement/Trophy Hunter in all of you, it’s now easier than ever to earn 50 points or get that Gold trophy for 100,000 XP. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can push on a little farther and obtain 120,000 XP in order to obtain the legendary Ostrich Hammer. If you’ve never played Red Faction Guerrilla’s multiplayer yet, this is your chance. A new account under quintuple XP settings will earn approximately 10 unlocks after just a single game!

But that’s not all! Starting this week - and throughout the event - on our official Twitter account (@RedFaction), we’re giving away some free DLC codes for each console. Follow along to receive updates for when the individual codes will be posted to our account and have a chance to grab them before anyone else. Each of our 3 packages will be given away to a handful of lucky fans.

The “Get Your Ass Back to Mars” started about an hour ago (December 17th) and runs until end of day on Monday, December 21st.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Many of the steam fixes for what ever reason just wouldn't work, I even adjusted the path to account for the game existing in a different directory. Here is the fix that worked for me on Impluse install and should work with the retail installation.

Let the GFW install fail

Then create a shortcut with this as the target:

"C:\Users\your user name here\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\Updates\54510837\Content\rfg_updater.exe" /f "C:\Program Files (x86)\THQ\Red Faction Guerrilla"

So ive just completed this on the PC, unknowingly under the effects of the "speed bug" (which i mistook for Volition's "style", as you know, SR2 :lol ). Now i realise why the car handling was such a piss take, some of the cheap deaths i encountered and why aiming with certain turrets/mechs was a royal pain. Still an insanely fun as shit game though, i love me some destruction :D I guess il need to go through it again if a patch fixes that speed bug stuff.

Also, the moab's, are they literally just bombs you can use for whatever purpose you wish ?

How active is the community on the 360 version? I bought the game recently, but I'm not sure I want to open it if no one is online.

I could go on and on for paragraphs about all the problems with this game... but I'll be damned if it isn't one of the most fun gaming experiences I've had this generation (I could say the same about SR2, actually). Bring on the next game, Volition!
