If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
gamers hate pokemon ? didnt know about that, i enjoyed the episode... pokemon talk should have been even longer. Poor Greg....

I wouldn't say enthusiast gamers hate Pokemon by any stretch, but there is obviously a growing criticism that the basic formula hasn't been mixed up enough.

And the counter-argument to that is: why fix what isn't broken? It's still doing great business for Nintendo, despite a few vestigial design choices here and there.

no episode this week ?
Scheduling conflicts meant that we had to record our new episode yesterday evening. If all goes well, CJ will probably have it up later tonight. I think the episode turned out pretty well, personally. It's our Beyond Good & Evil Game Club.

Special Teaser: In this episode we learn which of the four hosts doesn't like Beyond Good & Evil. Which one will it be? Secrets will be revealed soon!

I loved it - until I got stuck about 1,5 hour in and never looked back (probably because of a Gran Turismo - accountable for about 85% of my Playstation 2 time spent). This was back when it came out. These days I would probably have consulted the interwebs whenever I got stuck. ;)

Now I have the HD trial on my 360 ready to wow my wife with, hopefully. ;) I may just buy it to ensure part 2 is ever released, simply because there just aren't enough games like this one. Perhaps they can add the crumb-trail from Fable to the game to make it more accessible.

A lot of game should have a complete dummy mode where my wife could play them. Because I am sure my wife would love many games out there to bits, except for the actual gameplay being too hard, too violent or too repetitive.

And that pig is really ugly.

I agree with CJ. I tried to play BGE a few years ago. I thought it opened slow, some of the gameplay was unintuitive. After about 3 hours I stopped playing, never felt the urge to go back. Eff it!!

All right! Someone agrees with me! :) I just found it incredibly middle-of-the-road with a bland presentation style.

Also - after the show I finally watched the teaser for BG&E2 and wow. It does not look like they dropped that molasses pacing. :)

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
I recall reactions to the game being very mixed here, I sort of liked it myself. Was surprised to see how fondly it is remembered years later now.

I reviewed it for XBLAFans and I wasn't especially impressed either. I do think it has a certain charm to it but the core gameplay relied to much on really frustrating stealth.

POP Ep.231: Citizens on Patrol
This week! We go on a film tangent early on but eventually get around to talking about our 3DS plans (this episode was recorded before Sunday's release) and an update of Phil's Bioware/EA DLC license transfer woes. Then it's onto the games we've been playing this week, including Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Tapper World Tour, Dead Space 2 and Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime. Join us, won't you?

POP Ep.232: Raiding Faces in an Extra D

This week the boys all got a 3DS (except Ford, but we replaced him with a fanboy), and they spend an hour talking about the hardware and its games. Topics of discussion include Pilotwings, Ridge Racer 3D, Samurai Warriors, Super Street Fighter IV 3D, and Nintendogs & Cats. Special thanks to Mik of The Fanboys Lunchcast for joining us this episode!

It sounds like this is going to hit a rich vein of "Greg Ford not caring about what everyone else is saying." I can't wait!

He cared so little, he didn't even show up for the episode.

Actually, Ford was traveling when we recorded this episode, so he couldn't join us. Hence our lovely guest this week.

Just downloaded the episode and going to listen soon. Looking forward to your Samurai Warriors impressions Phil. I got away from the Musou games for a bit but I finally dove back in with DW7 and Samurai Warriors 3DS this week, and I'm loving them both so far.

It's so hard to find any critical thoughts about the Warriors games when it's always "Oh look a Dynasty Warriors game 5/10." That gives me nothing to go off of as a potential consumer. It doesn't tell me about the actual changes that might have happened to the game.

Thanks Phil for keeping the Warriors torch burning in spite of the vitriol you've had to endure.

Chris ably became his spiritual successor by "having to leave early."

I really enjoyed this one, especially the knowledgeable portable conversation and Greg's retail tales. Having worked at Gamestop on a couple of pre-/post-New Year's Day periods, I've had people "level with me" about how it's the shopping extravaganza that made them crabby. It's nice to know that, somewhere out there, people are just being douches in lines in April.

I was at the live show and this week's ep was very awkward and low energy. But it made it hilarious.

I've always wondered what the piano music that plays during the outro is called. It sounds so familiar and is probably something so obvious, but I just can't place it.

Also, I can't believe CJ lost another handheld.

NGP next!

Repost from the P1P site:

Some random comments:

- Cloud saving on PSN, syncing and/or autouploading all existing saves was one of the most requested features on the playstation blog, and the response was that they would look into it. Apparently, future games could support saving from and loading to the cloud directly. I recently got my second PS3 and am now using it happily to copy the occasional save from one to the other.

Losing 'stuff' on the portables

- On the PSP, there was just about nothing that you couldn't easily transfer/backup to PSP and/or load to another PC. And no, I don't mean using CFW, but as a regular feature. I don't think we should necessarily expect things to be vastly different on the NGP. I don't know about what options are here for the 3DS, but perhaps you just never tried to backup these things in the first place?

3DS Sales

- Not even sure if you discussed them, but I just saw a press-release stating that Nintendo had not (nearly) achieved its initial sales targets, and that Nintendo stock dropped by 25% to the lowest figure since 2009.

Mags

- My favorite mag was ACE magazine, from the UK by Future Publishing. Most magazines are fortunately traceable online, like here: http://amr.abime.net/issues_24 I loved their six page reviews, and their A-list ... :) Their review scores were also quite a step beyond some current scores, like a projected long term interest graph, with learning curve etc. Scores were xxx/1000. :p

Listen

It's standard with the program. You'll come across it elsewhere if you take in Internet media.

It's a GarageBand tune. We've heard it pop up in other places from time to time. I know it's been on Nintendo Week a few times, and it's also been spotted here:

Curse you and your simultaneous answer! But at least I provided some examples.

Our current theme song is fan made, by the way.

I heard it in a porn. I immediately replaced the faces of all the comely lasses with Phil, Greg(s), and CJ.

(I replaced the dude's face with my own)

I'm finally getting around to this episode. It's odd to hear purposeful, informed discussion about games and the business on video game podcasts.

I'm surprised that it wasn't just the Gregs contributing early on. Great effort, all.

It'll be up tonight, most likely. Weather permitting, that is. We had storms right as we were beginning the second segment on Monday, then tonight the weather's supposed to be bad and who knows when Comcast and/or Georgia Power will succumb to Mother Nature's wrath.

I agree. The rest of the show was quite good, but it's weird that they acknowledge it's a puzzle game but get frustrated with puzzle game-like fail states. Chris, in particular, had no clue what he was saying. It's not a bullet hell shoot-'em-up or a "bullet hell" (i.e., hard), nor would difficulty adjustment make sense.

I'd like to hear Phil buy it having actually comprehended the game. Rockman/Mega Man teaches you to play the same way, even if Capcom's is an action game instead of a puzzler.
