CNN) – Barack Obama made reaching religious voters a major part of his South Carolina campaign. That decision seems to have paid off at the polls: among those who attend church regularly – monthly, weekly, or even more often – he captured greater support than Hillary Clinton and John Edwards combined, according to CNN exit polls.

He also won — but by a much smaller margin — among those who rarely attend church, or do not attend church at all.

Obama won the church vote, seems like he was successful at driving away the Muslim rumors

I'd imagine the majority of blacks in South Carolina are heavily religious. Every single family member I have in the south are BIG TIME Christians...

Ah true. Still, it seems people aren't buying the Obama is Muslim OMG lies anymore at least

no

Edwards is DONE. I think Clinton is more worried about getting the nomination right now than how much damage it's going to do to the party and how much weaker the eventual winner will be. I don't think the attacks will stop but they'll likely be attacking Obama's experience more, either way, it's going to get really ugly.

Exactly.

Hillary Clinton does not care about black people. She cares for one thing and that one thing is power, no matter who she has to crush in the process.

i concur. winning in a southern state means you won the religious vote.

That's stupid. Hillary cares about Black people as much as any other candidate.

The Obama campaign must get serious now for the Super Tuesday states. They have a real chance of being competitive. Don't let the Clinton machine run over them.

Philadelphia Inquirer endorses Obama - take that Rendell, you piece of shit!

Disturbing that so few white voters opted for Obama. Kinda puts a damper on his big win.

It was actually better than expected. He also was even with her among white males. Not good for Hillary.

She cares to use / discard them when appropriate as an electoral tool. Her fundamentally racist campaign has proven that to be a fact.

In the eyes of any intelligent individual, she has surely proven herself less honourable than George W. Bush. At least he never attempted to disguise the fact that he was a petulant, 'win at all-costs' child.

no, but he just needs to keep it close in ny and cali. illinois and the south will be a landslide for obama.

i think he takes texas too once we come up. we have alot of votes, and our liberals are super liberal (not unlike iowa)

The young and hence probably more open-minded whites in SC overwhelmingly voted for Obama.

He's within 10-15% in California. Hopefully, he can drop that margin to around 5% and the California debate is going to be huge.

I doubt we matter too much. The nominee will probably be wrapped up by then, either way.

Maybe. If its a long battle, Texas could help a little with delegates...maybe

-also anyone notice that when ever Hillary loses she tries to downplay the importance of that state. She is leaving SC now and right after Iowa she said they didn't matter. Talk about a sore loser.

I think he'll take Texas too. We seem to hate Hillary down here from what I can tell of my Democratic brethren.

TBH, if Obama does win the primaries and is the Democratic candidate it'll be my first time voting Democrat. No-one really pleases me this year, much like last, and I think this would just be a good historic time to set some new precedents for our country. So before my words get twisted, yes I'd basically be voting for Obama because he's black but it's really not just that. It's not like I think he'd mess up the country more than a different candidate, but more along the lines that I think the next 4 years are going to be damage control and I really feel like everyone that's running would be able to accomplish about the same. So I think the historical precedent set by having a minority President would outweigh any of the other candidates little pet project that may make it through.

Edit: State'll still probably go red however when the time comes.

That's what all politicians do. It's nothing to worry about really

technically she ran her campaign there as such. she knew she had no chance in the state for some time now, and only really threw some weight into it the last few days to save face and show she wasn't simply conceding.

besides, she's still trying to figure out a way to pry the delegates from Michigan and potentially Florida. i like how Yglesias described it - Billary's trying to play Calvinball and make the rules up on the fly.

Obama: "We lost because she ran a better campaign"

Bill: "He's black, duh"

Of course, those are Bill's words and not Hillary's, but I think we can assume she believes the same.

Wait, Billary is now trying to have Michigan and Florida offer delegates? That's ridiculous. If DNC changes the rules, that would be the biggest joke.
